Gran Canaria Beaches

Playa El Veril & El Cochino

Just to the east of Playa del Ingles, almost a continuation of the beach you'll find two man-made coves (3 beaches) with dark, golden sand. The first cove is Playa El Cochino and the second Playa El Veril though the council seem to have called all three beaches Playa El Veril.

The huge Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas had a serious problem of excess sand being washed into shore. To solve the problem some 56,000 cubic meters was scooped out, loaded onto lorries and transported down to Playa EL Veril. Once dark volcanic sand full of stones, this new sahara sand was laid on top and three breakwaters were constructed so now you have these three new beaches with soft, golden sand, calm waters, an area with sunbeds and parasols, there's even a lifeguard on duty.

On the beach itself is a snack bar, fine for drinks but limited for food. Just above the beaches though is the El Veril commercial center with a nice selection of restaurants, supermarket and cafés with terraces offering a panoramic view of the Playa del Ingles coastline.

Whilst the beginning of Playa del Ingles beach is where all the families with kids go, Playa(s) El Veril is a more peaceful option. You can get there by walking along the beach from the Annexo II center 5 or 10 minutes stroll or catch a cab/bus to El Veril commercial center then get the stairs down to the beach.
