Romería en honor a Nuestra Señora del Carmen
Saturday 08 July 2017, 11:30am - 11:59pm
Hits : 1869

One of the few romerias that take place here in the south near the tourist resorts, today it's the turn of Arguineguin.

This one gets quite busy as a lot of tourists drop by to participate so quite odd with all the locals dressed up and tourists in bikinis and shorts. Also odd that a romeria is not held on a Saturday or Sunday.

As with all romerías on the island, expect almost everyone dressed in traditional, Canarian costume, folkelore music, singing and dancing and a procession of decorated carts, usually drawn by oxen which take offerings for the saint to the church.

On July 20 the statue of the virgin is brought back to the town and a nice sight to watch from the harbour area around 11:30 in the morning when all the boats leave.
