Playa del Ingles - Day Activities

(Very much a "work in progress" - sorry this page isn't more complete yet)

The major resorts here tend to be a bit deserted by day. Everyone's either still asleep from the night before or they've gone to the beach for the day. Still, there's enough around the place to keep you going if you're not doing either of those and they tend to stay open well into the evening too. The two resorts are side-by-side so if you're staying in one, the main attractions in the other are a short cab-ride away and in some cases, maybe walking distance.

Mini Golf

Propper Golf - Maspalomas has it's own, professional 18-hole golf course, more on the golf page.

Holiday Word - leisure center and park

Camel Safari in the sand dunes

Aqua Parks (2 of them)

Gyms
11
There's several Gyms around Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas. One you'll find in the Annexo II center down by the beach so a nice place to go before a swim in the ocean and a lazy afternoon chillin' out down there. The one I would recommend and best equipped by far and the one I use is in Holiday World (top floor) at Maspalomas. The main gym has all the latest machines as well as free weights, a dozen or more different daily excercise classes, dry and steam sauna, heated lap-pool and jacuzzis. You can get day or weekly passes at all gyms. (Hliday World - the better gym - is €11 for a day pass and €25 for a weekly pass).

Tennis
1The main tennis center in Maspalomas is located next to the golf course and is called, oddly enough, Tennis Maspalomas. TEL: (34) 928 76 74 47 FAX: (34) 928 77 03 88. Very much a tennis club so go suiteably attired, no tops off etc. They have 11 courts - hard courts and clay courts, padel tennis, squash, gym, sauna, massage and a restaurant. It's adviseable to call in advance to book because other than being busy, they occasionally have the ATP tournements here as well as some of their own.

Things to do around Playa del Ingles

Amusement Arcades
Known locally as a "salon de juego", they can't be easily missed with the noise they create. Open from early morning to late at night, they are all located within each of the shopping centres here. Pretty much standard with slot-machines for gambling away your spending money, various arcade and video games, rides for the smaller children, pool tables, "test your strength" games and look out for the Spanish bingo/pinball machines!

Tennis
The main center for tennis in Playa del Ingles is next to Holycan bungalows and is called, Tennis Holycan - TEL: (34) 928 767746. The have 5 courts - 3 hard and 2 I don't know what you call the surface but it's like a carpet coated in sand and is my preferred surface to play on. They also have 2 padel tennis courts.

I still haven't walked enough around Playa del Ingles by day yet to find a good place to recommend for the Internet but I can say there's several around both Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas. Some of the larger hotels and complexes have their own stations for guests.

Sky Diving!

From Playa del Ingles it's a 10 minute drive to the aero club, a 15 or 20 minute flight to altitude and then a 2 to 10 minute drop (depending on your chute opening or not) back to the dunes at Playa del Ingles. They offer tandem jumps for all ages and prices are from 140 to 210 euros per jumop. Their contact number is 928 157325 if you want more info or to book your place.

Not a day activity but I haven't got an evening activity section! Bingo Mercurio is at the Mercurio center (where the post office is) at the north end of Avenida de Tirajana (that's the main street running through the resort). Gets going from 8pm onwards, busy really from 10pm onwards and I think it's open until around 4am (went once at 1am and it was packed, strange time to be playing Bingo). It's mainly popular with the locals so everything's in Spanish but also displayed on TV screens so you can follow what's happening and play whatever language you speak.
