Cockroaches YUK !!!!!

Hi - not sure where to put this, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

Last year I woke up in the middle of the night to find a bl**dy great big cockroach on the bedside table!!! To say it disturbed me would be an understatement and it did in fact spoil the holiday. We are coming to PR again in 10 days and I just wondered if anybody had any tips to stop them coming into the apartment.
We do all the normal things like not leaving food out etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Buy a spray - green can - and spray around door frames, window frames, edges of room (especially the kitchen) If poss, keep your windows and doors closed.
Most complexes are pretty good and spray regularly. Around the time of a spray you'll see more around as they are flushed out by the spraying (not the one you'll do though)

That spray is brilliant. We used it one year when we stayed at Canary Bungalows (they had a lot of cockroaches!) and it was a god send!

Put plugs in the plugholes of the sinks and baths - they can come through the drains.

Like Mary says the green can (baygon) is the best bit more expensive, but does the job.

Have to agree with Owen. This is the first thing we do when we arrive in the apartment.

Do you not think though that some of it depends on the age of the properties too - the older ones you tend to find have more cracks and hidey holes for em whilst the newer ones you don't seem to see them as much.

You have been unlucky. We very rarely see any in the apartments. Always leave a light on in the rooms, even when you go out, i was told this works. Blocking the sinks is a good idea as Owen says but i always forget.A mate once took a shower and one came out of the shower head and fell on him... AGH!!!! lol

Im not sure of the time of the year , But when the female ones are in season, They fly through the air. I hate that and keep the windows closed.
