I know not all agree, but we visit the BARBACOA in the EUROPA centre often as my son (7 years) loves their food and clears his plate every time. I can't say I've ever had anything to complain about (as I don't mind tinned veg!!) the service and food has always been fine and you get to keep your table for the evening entertainment which is usually family friendly.

**I have to say though, that it's not a patch on BISTRO FRERE where you will get an excellent meal and friendly personal service.**

I am happy to report that the rumours are true - the Barbacoa is serving FRESH VEG with its meals! Carrots cut into flower shapes, cabbage and I think peas (which may have been frozen at some point in the past)!

I still personally think it serves good quality "British" food if thats your kind of thing.

Definately not anymore! All the veg is FRESH and the kitchen has exellent chefs...Got to comment on the pies too, being a Yorkshire lass i love a meaty pie and tasty gravy and the Barbacoa served up the best i have tasted in a long time, and that was a good while ago so what can i say...other than try it!
Bring out the pies.....

having read up on it, it looks mega tasty. Does it not have smart views of the bay as well?

You must be thinking of somewhere else Lucifer - the Barbacoa has no view to speak of in the food area. Outside on the terrace you can see across towards the ocean.

There was another Brit cafe which does tasty meat pies and that was my namesake TOP CATS down by the main beach, and the beer was a very good price too.

Is this the one where you go down a few steps right on the beach front??? If so i had the most disgusting chicken curry there that i have ever had in my life, it was like brown processed chicken the sort you get in tins of soup, not big chunks of chicken like you would expect, yuk:veryangry:

Down by the main beach there is a Brit restaurant which has the same yummy steak pies (handy for lunch), which is called Fat Cats.

I went to Barbacoa on my first night last September and i thought it was brilliant! The food was really nice, the service wasnt bad and the entertainment was really good! I really enjoyed that night and it made me look forward to the rest of the holiday more!

Coz you never know what places are like if you've never benn to them before but i defiantly loved Puerto Rico! Hopefully going back there in September! Does anyone know of any good nights out down there?

Much as I would like to agree that Barbacoa serves great food, I'm afraid I can only describe the meals as average..(perhaps we were there on the wrong night!).
Had a great breakfast there and decided to go back in the evening for the "Trixy Lixx Show"...reminded me of a night at a holiday camp...service was awful, food was overpriced although the servings were good, but the plate was full mostly of chips coleslaw and salad...I hate coleslaw and asked for this to be taken off the plate, which they did...but were a bit put out at having to do it. As for Trixy Lixx...well we decided not to stay for the 3rd costume change. The show wasn't a patch on funny boys at the CC.

We did find a fantastic Italian place next to Harbour Lights, service was fantastic food was to die for and it was great value, can't remember the name but I'll def be back next visit.:thankyou:

We only went the once but once was enough ! Waited over fifteen mins to be served (they were not even that busy), plenty of staff walking around but not very attentive. Took our drinks order - which then took 10 mins to arrive, and then took our food orders. And we waited and waited and waited.......then when seeing 2 tables who had come in well after us get served their food we made a complaint - only to be told our food was just being dished up. After another 15 mins and still no food we complained again, it took another 10 mins for the first dish to arrive - my daughter was midway through it when everybody elses arrived !! And low and behold 3 pasta dishes all cold to luke warm at best.

Complained to manager who was not very helpful - offered us a free drink if we stayed or would take the 3 late meals back but we would still have to pay for the partially eaten meal !!

Bloody awful place and they had the nerve to stop and ask us if we wanted to join them for the evening every time we walked past later in the week !!

Gee this is an old thread.

Well, been in and out of Barbacoa over the years. Some of the entertainment is fantastic, but Im afraid to say the venue, food service and drinks do no credit at all to the stars and acts. Sadly nothing has changed .

Returned from PR a few weeks ago and visited the Barbacoa for a meal once while we were there.Have to say that everyone thought the meals were quite good although the local lager was fXXXing awful.Seemed to me that we paid over the top for a night out that we could have had elsewhere.

I had a peek at the new menu today on my way to Netto and it looks quite good and different to the other places. They have Mexican dishes, Italian dishes and English stuff like beef and ale pie, cod and chips and cottage pie. So it seems everyone is catered for. The prices look reasonable too.

If somebody can confirm for me that the veg IS fresh, the mashed potato isn't made from a packet mix and that everything is homemade, we're going to go there on Friday. I couldn't find anyone to ask (at least there was no annoying tout outside LOL) :boozy:

I only went in there once and that was about six years ago to see the Elvis show! Has anyone eaten in Barbacoa in the past couple of weeks since they brought the new menu out?

I have to say that barbacoa was THE worst experience of dinning out I had during my three week stay In PR . The staff were woefully unattentive the drinks were pricey and the food was the worst I had in puerto rico . I was very dissappointed , but this was in august . I will try it again when I go out for christmas and new year and post back to let you know how it went .

Great to find this site , my inlaws have bought in PR and I have to say that it is an excellent place to stay and I have enjoyed every time I've been .
