Have heard that Altamar has apartments that are ment for 6 persons (family).

(Have stayed in a apartment they call "club" and that was very small for 2+2 persons. It was situated above the pool and near the lift.)

Tjäreborg/(My Travel in Finland) did not have any options with bigger apartments!

Would appreciate any information,thaks!

Just got bakc from the RIU Vistamar and the Altamar looked like a nice place. One thing I do think though is that it is not an English location. We used the Spar shop in the Reception and I would say it is 100% German as all of the noticeboards had only German / other Scandanavian notices. Plus we did not hear English spoken.

During the English summer period the Altamar is exclusive to the British,Scottish,Welsh and Irish so long as they book thougth Thomas Cook or JMC which is the sister company. All the posters that you would have seen dotted around the reception area is for the Scandanvians benefit for when they go on holiday in our winter period:thumb:

Hai,

Don't you think it's nice if there are nationalities other than English? You are surrounded by english people every day at home. Why would you want that when you are on holiday? When I go on holiday, I try to stay as far away as possible from the dutch people (i'm dutch).

I would have probably agreed with you until an incident at the RIU Vistamar over Xmas. Some kids around 12 years old English and German were messing around pushing each other in etc. As it does it got a bit silly and one of the German girls was pushed in by an English lad and she did not like it.

She went to tell her father who then proceeded to hold the boy under the water to teach him a lesson. The English lads Dad went over and told the German guy what he thought of him. I would have called the police but the English guy left it after he had told him what he thought.

So unfortuately my experience is not so good as I have never ever seen this happen before.

Hi,

Stopped at Altamar once or twice a year since 1997, love every minute of it and yes the standard rooms are fine. In fact up until 2 years ago they only had standard and what they called deluxe which were basically the same apart from extra's in the room like parasol's kettles fans etc. Now they have upgraded a few to include 2 bedrooms and upgraded a few of the standards

You will enjoy it

Hotel - The Altamar was quite nice, rooms were nice and a decent size balcony. We had fans in the room which were a bonus and everything else you need like fridge, kettle and toaster etc.

Hi, we have just got back from the Altamar - no kettles in most of the rooms but they have a coffee perculator! - it costs 10 euro to hire a kettle from reception. Hope this helps!

Hi - really popular apartments - usually JMC exclusive in the summer months. Up at the top of the resort with the Europa centre a 10 min walk away. Stayed here a while ago with teenage relatives and they liked it. Entertainment every night if you want to stay on site.

Did you mean you haven't stayed in PR before or that you had?

So you are pretty OK with the resort and layout then. 2 pools at the Altamar - 1 which is inflatable free I believe. All apartments set into the hill so its one of those lethal ski lift type contraptions to get down or a set of steps. Reception is at the top level and apartments go down from there.
Picture from rabs site here http://www.rab.c.fotopic.net/p24769688.html and lots on Bryan and Chris's here http://www.bryanandchris.fotopic.net/c28698.html

We are going there in July this year as well. We have been there several times before and try and get the same room each time. The room we had last year had been upgraded and had ceiling fans in the lounge area and the bedroom, and there was a massive fridge, compared to what they used to have. You could fit 5 litre bottles of water in there.

A friend of mine said he was looking on google earth though and saw that the A pool was empty and all the terrace tiles for the apartments were off. I think this is from work that has already been done, maybe a couple of years ago. Can anyone confirm this, or do they know if there is any work going on?

Just back from Puerto Rico

We dropped into the Altamar for the day and were the only family at the pool as it was change over time from Scandi- to British

Gazza was there and there was building work ongoing to some of the apartments directly above the restuarant

Monica told us that they are making a number of apartments two bedroom

The Altamer as usual was looking very very clean and tidy

They have overlaid all the footpaths and stairs to the apartments with tiles and are in the process of adding balustrades to the terraces of each apartment

I would reckon that the building work will be finished within the fortnight ready for the British tourists

I am going to Altamar Apartments on 23 June and am really excited as this is my first visit to Gran Canaria. I am going with my husband and 16 year old daughter. This is the first year we have not had her brother with us as he is going his own way this year but from what I can gather the Altamar seems like a really friendly place with a lot going on so hopefully she will meet up with other people her own age. Thanks for all the information posted as I have found it really helpful. Roll on 23 June - woohoo.

We stayed in the Altamar last year and booked flights and accom. seperately. We were very impressed - we were allocated a great apartment with huge terrace that had sun bed and table chairs etc.

We have re-booked this year with tour operator, (which has worked out comparable to last year, even though this year we go in August as opposed to Sept).

Does anyone know if this type of room comes as standard, or would we be better to pay a bit extra for what is classed as a "superior" apartment.

We are travelling with a wee one so the nice big balcony is great to get some rays during the afternoon as she had a nap?

We also have a week booked in march staying at the Eden, would it be worthwhile popping down to the Altamar and maybe requesting a particular room while we're there. Bit cheeky I know! Any suggestions?

IMO Altamar apartments are fantastic for a family holiday. Two pools, apartments are spacious with big terraces all with sea views and great kids club. Restaraunt is very good quality and value as well. Better than any of the other apartments up the top of the resort.

As for a particular apartment what i recommend is if you have younger kids some of the apartments have a "safety rail" around the balcony area, you may want to give them a call or send them an e-mail with your requirements, all the info should be on the web address below.

If you let me know what you are looking for specifically we're over in march and could check it out for you.

Hey everyone,

We're off to the Altamar in July, and having been there last year just wanted to know if they'd been any changes? From reading here last year I think that one of the blocks had just been done up, and that the other block was being done over the winter, is this true, and if so has it been completed yet?

Also, is Big Gazza, Cheryl and Emma still doing all the entertainment?

Cheers for any help folks, and if you're in the area in July the beers are on me.

people have really got to barter in this country as well as abroad because beleive it or not these travel companies are really desperate for our custom as most people are turning to online bookings our family of 4 self catering came to 1100 after i finished with the manager, after being quoted 1800 knocked off all frills still ended up with meals on the plane through their mistake and the merge with thompsons and first choice gave me a much better plane

"The Place" is a ***(*) hotel so,
- for, Aparments are ok but small!
- depend of where your apt. is the noice from restaurant can be disturbing
- lot of steep stairs

+ the view is fantastic+morning sun and evening sun...superb!
+ very clean
+ staff very very professional
+ 2 swimmingpools+"the one for littles"

I was at the Altamar in June, i think you will get alot of differing opinions on these Apartments, personally tho.

I doubt i would book them again.
Apartments ok and basic, you have to pay for rental of a kettle, but we just boiled water in the pots
Where situated it was very quiet but noticed the Apartments were a bit noisier above the pool area and just under the Resturaunt.

Balconies a good size with 2 sun loungers, but no privacy from either side and above the Balcony.

Towels changed 3 times in a week, no shower mat so floor gets soaking.

Sheets were not changed at all and the maid left a clean pair lying on the sofa on the 4th day ( maybe just forgot to do it)

Great views though.

There are 2 pools however only went once and spent the rest of the time at either Amadores or Puerto Rico beach, i like a bit of space when sunbathing but alot of beds crammed into a small space, so if you want someones toe up youre nose!!!

Alot of Apartments and got lost most days trying to find mine ( then again maybe that was the wine) Lol

Went half board and got fat!! the breakfasts and evening meals are great, can keep the room on for 30 euros on last day if needed.

Really good reviews from holiday watch dog etc and hope you have a good time, all to their own and you may love it.

We're just back from the Altamar. We had a two bed apartment in the 'B' side and it was modern, clean, well maintained and had all the equipment you need - Including a kettle.

If you're taking a family, it's brilliant. The only downside is the stairs. We only used the lift three times but it's not as bad as some make out, just a bit slow. There are a lot of steps though so if you have a wee one in a buggy, you have to take the lifts which will mean a wee bit of hanging around.

The whole family had a great time though, and I'm sure you'll love it. I'd definitely recommend it.

was talking to some who had done the ai upgrade last week they wern't too impressed
lets put it this way if you are a family dont expect to be able to go to the bars and get drinks for the whole lot of you each individual has to collect own drinks .
on one occasion he was halfway through his drink his wife had finished hers he went up to get another drink for her and was refused it she had to come and collect her own.
apparently its a crackdown by the managment there and staff are taking the brunt of it off customers .

We were told this had not long changed to one drink per person at a time.
It seems it was getting abused as some on the AI were going up for several drinks and were giving them to people who werent.

when having dinner we also saw a couple either on H.B or A.I sat at a table with another couple who were obviously not and going up for food and giving it to them, it was so sneaky!!!

Why oh why can't people just behave in a polite and civilised manner. I was hoping there would be table service for AI and we would still tip as if we had paid for our our drinks.

I was at the Altamar last year, it was okay not the best but by no means the worst, Apartments were clean and spacious with a decent size balcony with a couple of sunbeds, table and chairs.

I just felt it was a bit crammed in, alot of Apartments and for some reason i always got lost trying to find mine, then again that could have just been me and the vino!!

The 2 pools were always busy and for this reason we spend most days going to the beach.

Entertainment was good and had something on most nights usually starting about 10ish till 12am.

Views are fab from the Apartments, but my opinion is i wouldnt particularly think of wanting to book there again, but if got a good cheap deal that might sway me as there was very little to fault its just my personal choice.

Hi there

I stayed at the Altamar Apartments in 2006. Found them clean which is the most important thing I think!

Good base if you are going to be out and about a lot, but wouldn't stay here if I wasn't planning on leaving the hotel much to be honest… the pool areas aren't the best in my opinion.

But the apartments themselves are decent sized with big balconies or terraces.

Also, very handy for Europa Centre and a few euros down the hill to main commerical centre.

Stunning views of Amadores too!!

Hi,
Was here last in October 2009 and had an excellent holiday.Kids really enjoyed themselves at the kids club leaving the wife and I to have plenty of time to ourselves.Apartment was absolutely spotless when we arrived but the maid service was a hit and miss. The two pools were great when we were there and the views were amazing. The fans in the living and bedroom areas were a godsend.I would definately return to these apartments.

Apartment Hotel Altamar,
Well, WE have stay`d there every year sice 2002. Nice place, very clean, friendly personel, cozy feeling with a lot of apts closely but with Your own privacy. Large terraces, stunning views over sea (and "Gloria Palace"). 2 pools that are real swimming pools (no semi 5 star hotel imitation of glamour view pools). Children (+7) just love the place with all the activitys. Very near to Europa Center, children playground, Barbacoa, (Russ&Extreemz), Carla/Pete&Picwicks), if going to have a meal visit Little Italy and opposit El Toro Negro....the children will love the crew!
If You want to try something a little more far away try THE VERY SPECIAL place BAR PIO-PIO at Tauro beach,...its like going back to the 70`s..You just have to feel it!
An other place/restaurant to visit is The Ciao Ciao at Amadores beach, try`em even in the evening.
Well, there where many places not mentioned so,
ALTAMAR is a good place to start from...to dicover PR`s many possibilitys NOT mention THE AMADORES BEACH that is by far the better beach in PR.

Hopefully I think you'll find Pio Pio was closed to clear up and carry out repairs following the recent stormy weather. This has happened in the past obviously due to it's proximity to the sea. If it has closed it will be another great loss !!!!

yes its back to old times there minus shelley of course and it was a very busy place every day in january when we went for our daily stroll and few jugs, we even gor tosh converted and steve and pat the trip before.
the storms previous to our trip destroyed the beach and the last one will probably have had no affect on the place.
by the way welcome back hillbankdee great to see you finally managed to get back online, no more messages via trip advisor for me now i'll bet lol.
have a lovely time mate and let us know about it when you get back oh and let pio know the web cam has froze again ha ha.

back to thread the altamar has a lovely location and great wee spar shop within it but very dodgy lifts and lots of steps.

[quote=BoBo]Have heard that Altamar has apartments that are ment for 6 persons (family).

(Have stayed in a apartment they call "club" and that was very small for 2+2 persons. It was situated above the pool and near the lift.)

Tjäreborg/(My Travel in Finland) did not have any options with bigger apartments!

Would appreciate any information,thaks![/quote

Have a look on alpha rooms Bobo they are showing a few options for the Altamar. My parents are going over in May and are going to ask to see their beter class of apartment.
