Malibu is good. Clean apartments, everything you need. Nice pool area, if you are staying by pool remember to hire mat for sunbed...makes all the difference!!:)

just back from a month at the malibu apartments where very basic but clean and you can hire anything you need from reception or the reps robert or tracy pity we can't say the same about the pool the pool was needing cleaned and very very cold and we found the poolbar staff would rather play pool or bingo than serve you a drink or food !!!!

The 11 in 2wks statement came from someone staying there at the time ! Like i said the fact that there there was no forced entry would be enough for me, but its up to people to decide for themselves

Hi

Fantastic Forum - info is plentiful and everybody really helpful - well done everybody!

We'll be flying out this time next week - can't wait. Our 2nd time to PR in 3 years - not often enough I know.

We'll be staying for 2 weeks at the Malibu and although I've checked the maps (Owens I think) and also some photos on various sites I'm struggling to determine exactly were it is. Does anyone have anothe map or a street name and I'll refer back to Owens map?

Just wanted to find out if we're on the same hill as the Europa. Last time we were in PR we never knew about it and want to visit it this time around.

Found out soooo much from the forum and know of lots of places we want to go and see and things to do - really helped prepare us this time around and the excitment is building.

Oh one other thing - exchanging money - best to do it here? Or in PR? Best place to do it - Bank?

Thanks in advance.

Roque Del Este is the name of the street Malibu apartments are on. They could not be further away from the europa centre, they are on the other side of the valley, but taxis are cheap.
We have stayed at Malibu a few times now and will be returning in Jan 07.

money is same to change in pr as it is at home - exchange rate about the same. we struggled finding places to change it. then someone told us about a place in the c.c,like a booth, just up the little stairs as you go into the centre to your right. Hope you have a great time. We never got up to the europa centre this time - maybe next year. You have got to see the show near the beach with the drag artists. if you have not seen it before! i thought they were fantastic. best entertainment ever. :have-fun:

roxy

I would disagree on changing money, i always take enough in Euros for the first day and change the rest as and when needed in PR, I always use christinas in the main CC on the right hand side by the taxi rank and have always got a better rate than at home

Sandy & the Wench
4th September 2006, 10:27 PM
Thanks Angie/KT - know exactly where we're going to be now.

Lancashire Lass/ Roxy - Money - not sure what's best to do about that now. Would we be better to:

Exchange Pounds for Euros in the CC or here in the UK?

or

Travellers Cheques for Euro and best at CC or Bank?

or

Would we better just leaving the money in our bank and just using an ATM?

We're not too bothered about a few pence difference in exchange rates but at the same time we want to do the best thing and not get ripped off. Can anyone help with the advantages/disadvantages of each?

Last time we exchanged money in the UK and took enough Euros with us for the entire holiday - but then again we didn't think about all the options available to us.

All input appreciated.

We always use ATM's. We opened an account with Nationwide as they do not charge for withdrawals abroad. That way I just go to the bank next to The Highlander Bar when I need money and if I'm up in the Europa Centre, there is an ATM across from The Barbacoa that I use. No need to be carrying passports and large amounts of cash.

The Malibu may be on the otherside of the valley from the Europa but it is only a stones throw away from the Agua de la perra shopping center and some of the best eating houses in the resort. simply walk down the step from the Corona Rosa or thereabouts and it brings you out onto of the centre.
Also try a walk up the hill behind the Malibu, its worth the effort a short 15 min walk and you get some smashing views of the resort, across to tenerife and its unspolit giving a fair idea of how things were hundreds of years ago before the spanish arrived

Sandy & the Wench
6th September 2006, 01:51 AM
that we're going to change some money over here - get travellers cheques changed at the CC and use the ATM thereafter. Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Hyram

Thanks for the tip-off - wasn't aware of the shopping centre and eating places - reckon we'll be sure to give a few of them a try as they're so close to us. Cheers!

Yeah we'll go up the hill too for the views - that should be great as I'm an enthusiastic amatuer with my camera so hopefully get a few nice shots from up there. Thanks again!

Hi

Just returned from a two weeks ago after a week staying at the Malibu, yes on opposite side from Europa, most of the balconies overlook the hills or side of the valley overlooking harbour and marina suite (I so wanted to stay there). Most nights very little noise for local apartments with entertainment. Supermarket in apartments had weird opening hours and wasnt open when the poster said, nice little supermarket couple of minutes away or would suggest a trip to Netto Supermarkets in commercial centre. Walk down but not up, taxi is about 2-3 euros. Take's about 15-20 mins to walk down. Quicker than waiting up top for taxi.

Hope it helps.

Totally agree. Stayed in the Aquasol last November or it could have been June (getting old memory not so good). Waited for about 45 mins one night for a taxi and it was very windy and a tad chilly.

Have read the recent corespondence on the site regarding these apartments and am now a bit apprehensive. Read elsewhere also about breakins and "the dungeons". Going there on Sunday 15th October - wondered how I can go about getting a good room as this was a last minute holiday. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Hi Linda

I started a thread all about the Malibu (Malibu Hell) in this section of the forum - have a read at it if you get the chance.

In retrospect, I think one of my biggest mistakes was to actually call Seguro holidays after reading on here that the best rooms in the Malibu were 101 - 107 or 201 to 207 and asking them for one of those rooms.

It turned out we got allocated the dungeons on the 6th floor - they start at 0 which is reception and work down the way. This was probably allocated to us out of pure badness as we'd actually requested specific rooms.

So I'd reccomend that you just take your chances and see where you end up and if allocated the dungeons then request a move immediately!!!

They tell you what your room number is at the airport before you get on the bus to take you to the Malibu. So tell them at that stage because I guarantee that others allocated the dungeons will request a move once they get there and see it.

For that reason you'd probably be better not to mention too much about it to people you get chatting to at the airport, on the plane etc as it may reduce your chance of getting moved at all.

Any other questions just let me know and I'll try and help as best as I can.

Thanks for getting back to me. I did read your correspondence, that's what prompted me to join this forum!!!!!!(still not got the hang of it yet) - who was the guy who replied to you saying you should have contacted him first, sounds good,or do you reckon I should just take my chances?
Should you ask the (Rep?)on the bus to change rooms or do you have to wait to go to reception?

Sandy & the Wench

Hi Linda

I'd forgot about that - yeah Russ should hopefully be able to sort you out with a decent room.

He'll probably be on here soon and no doubt read this and contact you. He may be working tonight but he'll contact you soon as he's on here regularly.
_____________________________
Russ - may be best to contact Linda here as she's just learning how to use the forum and may not have got to grips with Personal Messages yet.

I'd say to the rep at the airport though they may refer you to reception which may not be open depending upon when you arrive.

LindaD

Yeah you're right don't know how to use the forum properry (i.e. Personal Messages, etc) so Russ if your out there, let me know if a good room is possible??!!!

We don't arrive until 4 IN THE MORNING so you'll be right about reception being closed.

Can you tell me how these apt. rooms work - you said earlier that the 6th floor is reception and the dungeons rooms start at 0. I take the ground floor rooms are no go (what are their numbers). Could you please tell me what room nos. to avoid (if I can!!!!).

Thanks a million.

Hi Linda

Sorry, the Reception floor is 0 and the dungeons are on the sixth floor which is down the way.

Rooms to avoid are 601 through to 607. We were in 604.

Rooms 606 or 607 may not be as bad.

If you're taking kids make sure they don't climb as it's a very steep fall on the other side of the balconies with some of the rooms.

Hi Linda,

Phone Malibu and ask the receptionist, Macarena if you can have room 202, 203, 204, 205 or 206.....these rooms are on the first floor below reception and all have great views. We have stayed there regularly over the past four years and have never ever encountered anything like what Sandy and The Wench did. I tend to think they were just a bit unlucky.

Mailbu phone # is
34 928 725 459

Receptionist name is Macarena....pronounced Macaraina. I usually phone on a Friday night just after 6pm or on a Saturday morning at 10am. Macarena has always come up trumps for me.
Russ is also a good option if you can contact him before a Thursday night as he works in the Corona Rosa which is next door to the Malibu, on a Thursday night. He could probably get your room booked, for a bottle of Buckie in return.

Hi K.T.
Good of you to get in touch. Must say this forum has been great - never knew things like this existed (obviously a novice at this sort of thing)!!!. Just typed in Malibu Apts. G.C on Google and this site came up.
I left a PM for Russ and he has said he will pop in and get a decent room for us and I will be more than happy to get him a bottle of Buckie (or 2) for his help if that's his tipple!! Must say I am now looking forward to this holiday.
Have you or anyone else heard what the latest is on these break ins????
Thanks again for your help.

Well, as other reviews have made comment on the Break Ins and raided safes here i thought i ought to confirm our experience. We have just returned from the Malibu where we stayed over the New Year 2007/08
and had read that there had been some problems with rooms being broken into but stupidly thought that since they had a year to sort things, it would all be happy days....Sorry but Not A Chance. On 31st December 2007 (new years eve) we happily headed off down the hill to bring in the bells with some mates from the hotel, where a brilliant night was had in several bars in the centre....happy days...aye. around 4am we returned to the aptmnts via taxi up the hill where we were greeted by some other guests who were all gathered in the reception area, all a bit confused. We wer asked by a girl (sorry cant remember the name) who stayed on the same floor as us which incidently was FLOOR 6 (the bottom floor where all the previous break inns occured) if we hd been to check our safe/room...in a kind of drunken dash we got ourselves to the 6th floor and our room to find the room was (i think) in tact but....ye you guessed.. the safety deposit box had been ripped open and all contents exept passports and flight tickets were gone. All money UK & Euros, cards and jewelery were taken. Next morn we found out the extent of the break inns, Seven other rooms (maybe more, i know of seven) had been burgled too. and the remainder of the holiday was just more of an inconvienience more than anything, people were from then spending time visiting other resorts (where police stations were located) to fill out Reports, or spent soo much time on telephones to banks trying to cancel credit/debit cards that had been taken, and is my thoughts that all folk wanted to do on new years Day was Go Home. I knbow i did and had there been a flight we would have
Sorry its so long and is only about the burglary but i will post a review soon about the Resort itself which we thought was Bloody Fantastic, tho places like the Malibu spoil the name of Peurto Rico

So sorry to hear about your awful New Year Cor100. We stayed at Aquasol which I believe that is near the Malibu?? We stayed there Nov 3rd-10th 07. We were pretty worried as there had been break ins there last year. We did not have this but we had a bad time there and would not stay there again. I have written review on hoLidaytruths.co.uk about this complex.
We then stayed at Balito Beach at Christmas having just returned on New Years Eve. It was not as bad as Aquasol, but would NEVER do half board there again. I felt that I needed to do a review of these too, so again, did this on holidaytruths.
Is there somewhere on this forum to write your review about either of these two complex's? I have never in 18 years of travel felt the need to complain but have done about these 2!

Hi, we went there in 2001. It was crap. We also arrived in the early morning and because we had a hire car they left the key with the rep on the coach. We had to wait 4 hours for her to arrive. The week got worse with the contant noise from the very poor evening entertainment.

if there is a thread about the complex - like this one on the Malibu - just write your reoprt within the thread. If there isnt one, then start a new one about that complex.
We (moderators) can always move them to a new thread if it seems to warrant it.

Sorry you had bad accomodation but pleased you enjoyed the holiday

hi
And welcome to the forum, the malibu seems to be going quite well again after a spate of breakins old years night going in to new year 2007.
there was a spate of rooms robbed and 13 safety deposit boxes forced
new safety deposit boxes have been installed since and I havent had any bad reports sent my way since then and I have tried to keep an eye open on these apts as that was the second new year break in over the last few years.
if you were employed around jan 2006 you may have heard about the earlier breakins
