Hi I live in gran canaria,I have had a look at the palm oasis maspalomas and it looks very nice, this is some information I found out about it, I hope it will help you.
Constructed in the Canarian colonial style, the Palm Oasis Aparthotel is purpose-built for vacation ownership and is set in lush, tropical gardens with palm trees, a large variety of cacti, plants and flowers. The aparthotel is just a mile away from the sand dunes of Maspalomas and one and a half miles from the resort centre.
You can take a taxi and it will not cost you much
The 48 apartments are all equipped with bathroom, satellite television, air conditioning, hair dryer, ironing board, kitchenette, safety deposit box, balcony or terrace and telephone. Most apartments have views of the gardens and swimming pools. Facilities at the Palm Oasis Aparthotel comprise an entertainment programme, bar, garage, gymnasium, heated pool, jacuzzi, laundry service, luggage room, money exchange, restaurant, swimming pool with sun terrace and a tennis court.
I hope you have a nice holiday
John

Hi John
Thanks for replying to my thread re: palm oasis. We have found it really helpful, and are now looking forward to our holiday.
Can I ask one more question. Are there bars and restuarants in walking distance?
Thanks again

Hi Rick,
Yes, there are restaurants and bars within walking distance, however only a few.If you cross over the road (across a roundabout) there is -immediately opposite Palm Oasis- a chinese restaurant.Up the road to the right, past the Mirador hotel are a couple of bars with terraces, very small and right next to a very narrow, busy road, so my advice would probably be to get a taxi (about 3/4euros) to the Faro 2 shopping Centre where there are more restaurants and bars to choose from, or Maspalomas beach front(about 4 euros) which is lovely now as there is a great boulevard of nice restaurants and bars overlooking the sea OR if u want the real buzzing place go into Playa del Ingles (about 5 euros)where anything and everything is, including- dare I say it - a McDonalds!!!!!! You'll find a range of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Palm Oasis itself looks beautiful from the outside - very posh.Sure you'll enjoy yourself.:have-fun:

Rick, just as an afterthought since you mentioned steakhouses, there is a great one in the Faro 2 shopping Centre on the ground floor. It is either called TORO PIEDRA II OR RESTAURANTE BRONCEMAR II - can't remember exactly as there are a couple of steakhouses there but it is the first restaurant you encounter on ground level!
I had a meal there with my Mum a while back and it was lovely and reasonable priced.......all the best!

Hi everyone
We r just back from 2 weeks in palm oasis. Following comments are based on our personal prefences.
The hotel and complex are stunning, tropical gardens surrounded by villas. Over looking maspalomas. Everything about the place was great. Apart from food in the evening restuarant not matching the quality of the complex. The complex was mainly occupied by german and spanish and was geared towards them.
The apartment was of very good size air conditioned with ceiling fans. Power shower with 7 jets and jacuzzi bath, and full kitchen. Maid service everyday.
Balcony and roof solarium.
Down side only one restuarant (chinese) in walking distance. Taxi essential 3/4 euros to either playa del ingles, faro 1, faro 2, melonores (our favourite) Designer shops, super restuarants, very classy area.
Hope this help anyone who is going.
P.S still prefer PDC lanzarote.
Thanks for everyones comments to us they helped a lot.
If anyone needs any more help we will try to answer as honestly as poss:packed: .

Hi
We (myself, husband and 2.5 year old)are hoping to go here in December, we have a really good deal. But I'm wondering are we going to be spending all our money on taxis:confused:
Is the Chinese really the only place serving food within walking distance?? I read somewhere it is 1.5 miles to Maspalomas, is this walkable?? I'm just worried about taking our 2.5 year old in a taxi all the time, with no child seats etc. Are there bars nearby where you can have a drink?

Hi Lady Leah,
As far as Palm Oasis itself goes I'm sure you won't be disappointed. It's a lovely complex with a great pool area, jacuzzi and having stayed there myself in May I can vouch for the lovely rooms, all mod cons etc.
In answer to your query re.restaurants unfortunately - Yes - the chinese across the road directly opposite Palm Oasis is really the only main restaurant in the area.Where Palm Oasis is located at the top of the hill in Sonnenland the area is mainly residential so you have only a few closeby accommodations - Surycan apartments (and many of those are privately owned by GC residents), the Hotel Mirador (next to the chinese) and then a few others dotted a bit further down from Palm Oasis so there isn't the sheer number of eateries and bars that you will find in Playa Del Ingles and other areas of Maspalomas BUT these are only a taxi ride away. I understand your worry about the taxi scenario however they are so readily available - the taxi rank is located directly outside Palm Oasis - and they're cheap as chips (3 -4 euros around Maspalomas and slightly more if you are off to PDI to the beach/to eat out.)
The Maspalomas beach is a few mins in a taxi straight down from Sonnenland, but to walk it to be honest WOULD BE A KILLER!! I have done it a couple of times and it is about a good half hour walk and to be honest with a little one too I think it would be no joke for you especially with GC's strong sunshine!! There are though some lovely restaurants and cafes on the beach front which are well worth a visit. The main restaurants in Maspalomas are also minutes away in a taxi located in the FARO 2 CENTRE.To walk from Palm Oasis is about 10-15 mins though and you have to cross 4 busy main roads to get there. Also, Palm Oasis is at the very top of a very steep hill and again this is A KILLER to walk up back from wherever you've been!! When I am out there I tend to walk a fair bit here and there but I have to say do cave in to the taxis quite a bit as they are so easy to locate all over the South!
Anyway Leah, hope this helps and you enjoy your hols.:grouphug:

Thank you so much for your reply Lucy, its been really helpful. TBH we are still umming and ahhing because of the taxis, it really wouldn't be a problem for just 2 of us but taking a little one without carseats, I just don't know if its worth the risk if anything happened!
Whats the entertainment like at the hotel?
So if we walked into Maspalomas (but def taxi back!) are there places to stop for a drink along the way or is that all residential too?

Hi,lady Leah, have sent you a PM

Hi again Leah,
I have to say the Palm Oasis did make an effort with the entertainment - on several nights they had live music/ a singer on in the bar area which is downstairs from reception BUT (and its a big but!) the bar is literally a box room. The bar is basically the length of a breakfast bar with a couple of stools and there are a handful of tables scattered and that is it! It resembles a student union bar!!! I was to be honest amazed because the resort is really plush and I expected there to be a big bar area but there isn't! A real shame cos the rest of the place is lovely.I passed by there a couple of times and there seemed to be only a few people in there and I think most people go out. However, bearing in mind the Palm Oasis is mainly timeshare maybe they dont go overboard with the bar cos timeshare residents dont use it.
There are some good bars in the Faro 2 Centre - The Banana Bar on the upper level is pretty good. Also down on the Playa de Maspalomas there are some nice, new bars along the beach front. There is also a really nice bar in Playa del Ingles called CIAO CIAO which has live music on most nights which is excellent and only a short taxi ride away.
As far as walking to Maspalomas it depends where in Maspalomas you are going. The walk to Faro 2 there is DEFINITELY nowhere to stop along the way as you are crossing main roads on the way there. The walk to the beach if you fancy giving it a go ) again is much the same( tho u can walk as far as Faro 2, have a drink, then walk on down to the beach) - where Palm Oasis is it has a few shops and bars then from there is basically main roads leading off to PDI/Faro 2 to the left and then a main road straight down to the beach where there are again more restaurants, bars and shops. The way the South of the Island is you have these little clusters of places which are joined up by long main roads so there isnt much on the way!!(hope this makes sense) I think the walking is fine if you up for not stopping along the way ( tho if you walk to PDI there ARE a few bars along the way where you can stop but not Maspalomas.)
Anyay Leah, hope this helps and anymore info you need just let us know.:grouphug:
