Hi Everyone,
I am frequent traveller to Gran Canaria and I have always done the package deal and played safe with the travel arrangements jumping on the coaches with everyone else, however this time I plan to drive and hire a car from the airport and drive to the resort.
I am looking for any advice tips pros and cons from everyone else that has had the balls to do this before me. Any advice would be most welcome especially anyone in the know about reasonably priced car hire companies.

My wife and I no longer use the bus service offered by the travel agency. Picking up a rental car at the airport is much more convienient and much less off a hassle. You can drive by a supermarket on your way to hotel and pick up things you need for breakfast, beer for the nights etc.
I strongly recommend the e-mail car hire -service, that uses the Rekord rent a car company.

Their service has been very good and last time we got upgraded from Clio to brand new Scenic with all the gadgets you can imagine. That company is also the cheapest that I have found.
With email-car-hire you make your reservation using the flight number. You never pay in advance, only when you pick up the car.
When taking responsibility of your own transport from the airport to the hotel, make sure you know exactly where your hotel is located, especially if it is dark when you arrive. It is also a good idea to find out where to park the car - some hotels have very limited space for cars.

Hi
we use email-car-hire too, they are very helpful and have always got a nice selection of cars, my only criticism is that we had to wait for 45 mins in the queue for our car a few weeks ago. Very busy company need more staff. But apart from that would def recommend them.
