I heard of it on working lunch, then saw it reported on the news. Luton airport are to make £1 charges.. A pound here and a quid there it all adds up. The news did an example that if you were travelling on your own you could pay £6 before you get through security. Theyve been clever enough to make it a pound as who is going to complain about a one pound coin, but a pound -its enough to make them money time and time over.:veryangry:
Luton airport is to charge a £1 fee to drop off passengers at the terminal.
Drivers will have 10 minutes to unload passengers and their baggage and will pay the £1 fee at barriers as they leave the area.
Luton airport, home to the low-cost airline easyJet, also charges £1 for baggage trolleys and £1 for a pack of four clear plastic bags to carry bottles of liquids on to planes, in line with security requirements.
Travellers can also pay £3 to use priority lanes to get through security more quickly.
The operator of Luton airport, Abertis, also runs Cardiff and Belfast airports, causing speculation that other airports could begin charging similar fees.
A spokeswoman at Luton said a free parking zone would be created in the mid-term stay car park to allow drivers to avoid the fees. Passengers would then have to take a short shuttle bus to the terminal.
Nic Horton, Luton's general manager of projects and development, said: "Dropping passengers off can be a stressful experience. We have therefore given careful consideration to providing the right facilities and enough time for people to unload in a secure environment.
"Making a small charge reminds drivers of the 10-minute time allocation and keeps the traffic flowing. By offering a choice of options we can provide an airport experience to suit the needs of all our passengers."
Luton is not the first airport to charge for dropping off. Birmingham airport charges £1 for 15 minutes in its drop-off zone, or £2 for half an hour.
When we fly from Gatwick or Heathrow we park up and catch the supposidly free bus to the terminal but you and i know its not free just because you dont hand over money on the day or separately. Its included in the charges. They at Luton say you can catch a free coach in from thier drop of car parks, but on the news they said they are only free if its included in your holiday package, otherwise youll have to have a root around for in our case £5 (probably both ways too).
Another charge BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
I was just thinking with regards of the trolleys you pick one up outside load it go into the terminal, push it to the desk then leave it where the trolley park go, if it was like supermarket trolleys you return them and get your pound back you wouldnt mind, but you probably only have it in your charge for maybe an hour if theres a long que. Im sure itd be cheaper for them to employ someone like they do now to collect them- but obviously they want the money. At gatwick theyve people wandering about giving out plastic bags for free, whereas Luton theyve bought in machines to dispense bags jokers.. again BOOOOOO!!! Thieves....
