come across a HAPPY air steward or stewardess ? lol
I fly quite regularly from Oslo to either Gran Canaria, England or Germany, and most of the time all of the air stewards/stewardesses seem quite happy to me. Perhaps it depends on what company they work for, or what country they come from? Most of the crew that I meet are either Norwegian or Swedish and work for either SAS or Norwegian. :eyebrow:
Especially on the flights to Gran Canaria they seem very happy, as if the mood of the people going on holiday to a warm country also rubs off on them. We very often exchange a few words, and laughs, with who ever is serving us our drinks and food.

for many years an air hostess job was portrayed as fun and sun and see the world...................in reality they are really just skivvys for the beckon and demand of the modern day traveller and when they reach their destination on the outward journey its all work and no play in preperation for the return journey.
I really feel sorry for some of the abuse they have to put up with at times from fellow passengers who often take their frustration and anger out on them more so after there have been flight delays etc. another point, nowadays is with the amount of cutbacks there have been and airlines going to the wall massive cuts have been made right across the airline industry and the poor girl trying to do her job may have already been on a few flights previous to the one you are on in the same day and has had a 12hour day most people in their own type of employment will do nothing but complain about tiredness after a 12hour day these girls just get on with their job and I have to say the majority of flights we have been on is service with a smile. and if you dont get a smile then give one of yours it goes a long way.

Yep - I've met loads of great cabin crew. We fly with Easyjet a lot and the people that make up the flights from Liverpool are always fab.
Waitress in the sky is not a role I would fancy in any way and I can't imagine its in any way an easy role when you've lairy passengers to deal with.

My sister, cousin and her daughter work for Bitish airways flying longhaul. My sister that was all she wanted to be from when we were children playing , a stewardess. Im sure it was the glamour, and the chance to do something out of the everyday norm she has the indianna jones gene to try something new when she started it was a different time. She did it for years and now works at Heathrow on the ground.
Whether you pay a pound or thousands for a flight, passengers expect to be treated well and receive good service. Wearing a uniform depersonalises you become a faceless face of a coporation and some people unfortuantely dont see or want to recognise there is a person beneath with feelings too. I cringe when people have no manners, are ignorrant, rude and abusive to others its shameful. And its usually those people who work in the service industry a cafe, bus driver, shop floor, sweeping the streets,or up on a plane who bare the brunt of being ignored, abused and are often low paid.
For example we flew back with Thompsons from Gran Canaria - Gatwick. A couple go into the toilets and you could smell the fags. The stewardess was knocking the door asking they come out, she opened the door and they were full of abuse- swearing, threatening, shouting. Maybe they were drunk, druggies i dunno. When we got to Gatwick nothing they went through passport control and they were gone. So makes you feel bad for the stewards/ss who do thier best and when someone is breaking a law they just can get off the plane not giving what theyve done, the people theyve abused a second thought.
In shops and banks its not unsual to see signs saying, treat our staff with respect, we will not telerate abuse etc. Unfortunately its a sign of these times, people dont or wont take resposibility for thier own actions. Dont recognise thier own short comings, but still expect everything on thier terms deservidly or not.
Weve never encountered a rude steward/ess usually their quite chatty and always good with our girls and my mum. On saga holiday to Cyprus, flying with Thomas cook they let us on first as we had the only children and when we got to the plane the **** pit door was open and the pilots waved and said hi, the stewardess took the girls foreward and they got to have a closer look in by the door and a chat with the pilots. Who at the end of his announcement leaving Gatwick terminal, he named our girls and said its their first time to cyprus, hope they enjoy the flight and have a nice holiday with thier nan. That was a nice surprise for them, mum and Graham were beaming.:tinysmile_fatgrin_t

I would be amazed and shocked if that happened, if any passenger is abusive or caught in the toilets smoking that is a public disorder offence and any passenger would be arrested by the police who would board the plane on landing. they would not have the opportunity to go through passport control and disapear.
there are smoke detectors in the toilets and the alarm is connected directly to the pilots cockpit and they will notify the control tower of any abuse aboard their flight. and another thing is there is also a second smoke detector which is unseen by any passenger just in case someone has the smart idea of disconnecting the one visible for a fly puff.

They were early 20s, they hadnt been at our hotel but got on the coach further on the transfer down to the airport. Some people are just selfish so long as they get thier way, do what they want they really dont care or think of others. They were loud on the coach which continued at the check in generally making a nuisance of themselves.
It was a Saturday late evening flight. Its a 4 1/2 hour flight and you couldnt settle and were on edge for the flight, they just didnt give it a rest. People were asking them, the stewardess's were asking them to behave they took no notice then got up went in the toilets. The fag smell wafted about, and the stewardess's made the no smoking announcement again. The pilot came on asking everyone return to thier seats, that they knew someone had been smoking and its against the law etc. The door was opened and they launched a tirade of abuse each as offensive as the other at each and everyone in ear shot. It was frightning.:veryangry:
When we got the other end, they went through the pastport control, then we next saw them at the luggage reclaim. And thats the last we cared or did see of them, maybr youre right and they were taken from there. The way they was carrying on they werent right in the head, no nobody in their right mind would act like that. The stewardess who was dealing with them was an older lady, and she kept her head the whole time.

I can't understand why anyone would want to abuse somebody who is there to help them and more importantly there for that persons own safety.
The best I have flown with was Jet2. We had an early morning flight and if people were having a nap they were not disturbed when the girls were selling the breakfasts and duty free. Unlike other flights I have been on when you get that accidental (on purpose) nudge as they come past you.

i firmly believe some of those who cause a nuisance of themselves leave there manners at home, or else have none in the first place. They think just because they are not in their own country they can act and behave anyway they want. They only end up giving the home country a bad name.
I had an aquaintance who i used to holiday with, who enraged me when we were away, she never stepped out of the way to let an elderly person pass, i myself used to step out onto the road, as the footpaths were quiet narrow, regardless of the age, if a couple came toward me holding hands, i stepped sideways to let them past........... common courtesy.
In restaurant, i have a habit of saying thank you when giving the menu, thank you when my order is taking, thank you when giving my refreshment and the same when handed each course of my meal, when asked if everythings is ok i always gave a comment, this continued throughout the whole meal, and on leaving a tip was giving and another thank you............... this aquaintence didnt utter one word............ pure rude........... my blood pressure rose on many an occassion.
hence i dont go away anymore with said person anymore.
In relation to air steward/ess i tend not to bother then unless totally necessary as always feel they have enough to tend too, and dont need the hassle, some are pleasant and some look like they just want to get home and crawl into bed, but then we all feel like that after a hard day at work.............. its allowed.
