Don Diego, Doncel, Jardin Del Sol, Liberty, Taboga, Montemar and Barbados.
I’ve been staying in quite a few hotels in Playa Del Ingles over the last years and thought I’d just share my opinion about them. As some of my reviews go a few years back, I’ve also indicated when I stayed there, just in case things might have changed since.
Don Diego (2004)
A small, quiet and very nice hotel. Excellent location for the beach, as it’s only short walk down there. The apartment was with one bedroom, a little small, but nice. Not very good swimming pool area, very small, and not with very much sun either as there are many tall buildings surrounding it. Definitely not a party-hotel, would probably say it’s better for older couples without children.
Doncel (2003, 2004)
Very basic accommodation, but ok. The apartment had two bedrooms, and the one facing away from the pool got quite a lot of noise from neighbouring bars and pubs at night. The swimming pool is quite large, and there’s quite a lot of sun in most parts of the area around the pool the whole day through. Very central. Short distance to Yumbo centre, Hard Rock Café, and 5 minutes walk to the beach. I’d probably say that this is more of a party hotel than a family hotel, as there was quite a lot of noise there both times I stayed there.
Jardin Del Sol (2006)
Very nice swimming-pool area, and very nice 2 floor apartment with 1 bedroom. Quiet location, and I’d say a very good hotel for families with children. Perhaps not as good for people who don’t travel with children, and wants to party, there tended to be too many children for my taste in the swimming-pool when I was there: and I’m in my late 30s, single and looking to party… It is also quite far to the beach, I’d say about 15 – 20 minutes walk, but that isn’t really a problem as a taxi would never cost you more than 3 Euros anyway.
Liberty (2006)
We had a very good 1 bedroom apartment in this hotel, and the swimming-pool area was very nice too. I’ve since learnt that when booking at this hotel you should really make sure that you get a room facing the pool, because the rooms facing the road do get a lot of noise from the traffic, and the balconies are also quite small. But as I said, really enjoyed our stay here, and would certainly come back if we get a room on the right side. Almost as far from the beach as the above mentioned Jardin Del Sol.
Taboga (2007)
This hotel is by the promenade that runs along the hill above the beach. The view of the ocean is absolutely superb. Very lovely 1 bedroom apartment, a bit small swimming-pool area, but all in all a very nice, but also very quiet hotel. Probably best suited for older couples looking for some peace and quiet. But if your main concern is finding a hotel with a good view of the ocean at a good price, I’d say that this is a good choice.
Montemar (2007)
A quite nice hotel, very short way to both the beach and the Irish centre. The 2 bedroom apartment was ok, but we did have quite a few very small ants in the kitchen area when we stayed there. The swimming-pool area was nice, quite large swimming-pool. The hotel is probably good both for families with children, and those coming to party – as I saw both when I stayed there and all seemed happy. What I liked the most was that it was so close to the Irish centre. (It is also very close to the Kasbah shopping centre, but I very rarely go there.)
Barbados (2006, 2008, 2009)
This is my favourite hotel in Playa Del Ingles so far. It is very central, the 2 bedroom apartments have always been nice, and I really like the swimming-pool area. This last time we even got a room with a view of the ocean in the distance, so that was a huge plus. The staff is always very helpful and kind, and I can’t really say that I’ve had any complaints in the four times I’ve stayed there. This is probably the one I’ll keep coming back to. There doesn’t tend to be many families with children staying there, and there are quite a few privately owned apartments where I mostly have seen older people. Other than that it seems like there are always quite plenty of party-people in this hotel, and that might be a good thing if you have your bedroom facing the street. There are quite a few pubs and restaurants on the ground floor, and there might be a lot of loud music and noise till 2 – 3 at night. But for those of us who hardly ever go to bed before that, it’s really not a problem.
