How long do you think it will be until its only Thomas Cook left lol.
Has anyone noticed a difference in the accommodation prices with Travelrepublic and onthebeach.com this year. They havent half jumped up.

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I'd been looking for a week in August earlier on this week. I priced two holidays, one with Thomas Cook and one with Travel Republic.
Travel Republic had better flight times (afternoon as opposed to night flights with Thomas Cook) and they were coming in at a price of £554.93 for the two of us whereas Thomas Cook wanted £742.00 for us. Both holidays were staying in the same apartments. The only reason I didn't book this was because Thomas Cook only wanted a deposit of £50 to book that day but Travel Republic wanted a deposit of £406 which to us is just not going to happen right after Christmas! Pretty glad now!

Sorry but I don't see how this means Travel Republic might be going under, if you read the article properly it says that they are offering their customers a full refund if they are unable to honour their booking. Some of the other large travel companies have also started doing this and if anything i'd rather book with a company that guarantees a refund than one that doesn't.

Under-fire TravelRepublic launches travel protection scheme
(09 January 2009)
Online retailer TravelRepublic has unveiled a consumer financial protection scheme for customers who book after January 1.
According to the TravelRepublic, website The Total Financial Protection initiative provides customers with 100% refund in the event of the corporate failure of their travel provider.
The website reminds customers that each element of their holiday is separate and as such is covered by separate financial protection.
The wording of the scheme also stresses that Travel Republic does not provide package holidays.
The site also claims the financial protection is '100% free of charge'.
Travel Republic was unable to comment but the launch of the scheme comes just weeks after the Civil Aviation Authority issued legal proceedings against the retailer and director Kane Pirie.
The legal proceedings are over breaches of CAA guidelines. Pirie is scheduled to appear in court in February.
