Hi all,
Whats in your case? what do you always pack when you go on hols...
I always take - sheets, i wouldnt feel right sleeping in someone elses sheets, especially hotels/apartments. You dont know who or whats gone on in them and wether theyve been launderd. I know in some apartments weve stayed in theve had thick blankets on hand for the chilly nights again the same thing, i wouldnt want them on me or near my face.
I always buy and take some sheets, pillow case and small pillows. They dont have to be expensive Asda/Tesco own,I keep them the way i bought them until I upack that way they dont take up too much room in the case.
What about you, whats in your case?

Im going to be the first to reply to my own post..
Always take enough socks. WHY??
The apartment we stayed in had tiled floors, and you dont always want to wear your shoes or flip flops in doors and you just want to pad about in your socks or even on a cold nights wear a pair to bed.
We walked down the many many steps to the town shopping centre in Puertorico and you would think having this many shops, coming accross a pair of socks would happen quickly. Alas this was not the case, the socks were elusive. I didnt want cashmere, i didnt particulary mind jazzy or plain, mens or womens socks- just a pair of socks god damn it.. But for all the time and effort rooting about ,no socks were fourth coming.
A lot of the asian shops and stalls had No socks but plenty of knickers, i say knickers more strings teeny tiny thongs. Someone should open a shop, along the lines of a sock shop/tie rack small frontage selling things you would want or need in a hurry. You know plain t shirts, vests, knickers, pashminas, hoodies and of course socks. Nothing outrageous just your basics like they do here a good balance of qualityand price. (I dunno its just an idea, to put out there).
Thats enough from me now, please feel free to add your thoughts

No, I don't bring sheets either! Seems a little extreme to me to be honest as you can drive yourself nuts thinking about what others have done or not done in the hotel linen etc but I just feel if you go that far you may as well ask for a new mattress, cutlery and the whole nine yards!
I always pack teabags (sad but true) but just enuff to tide me over until I get to the shops, as the flight is generally a late one. A little trick I always do is to ask for extra of those little milk pots on the flight and then I've got some for my cuppa when I arrive.

You all dont be like that please... You know what Im saying im sure. I was just saying what I do and take for us on our hols. As each and every one of you do when you make your own arrangements.
I dont wear the same socks as i do during the day, around about and in the apartment in my bed, thats would be wrong i agree urgh..
As for the socks, there were no socks, I had no socks no socks were fourthcoming, no socks to be had - leave the socks out of it OK, OKAY!!!heehee...
Ok one last quick nod with reference to the socks, and (my not quite ready proposal for the dragons den-even though Peter Jones does always seem to have plenty of nice stipey socks grrr) idea about a shop selling basics was a lady i spoke to, and several others who came dowm on a Thomsons flight had no luggage when the arrived in Las Palmas, put it on in the uk got off ready to start a holiday there was none. They were told it would be there in a day or so, when your on a holiday of 7days getting your luggage as you leave isnt fair. The tour rep, so they told me gave them all to be going on with a small kids party sized bag in which was a tooth brush, soap and each and a pair of paper knickers. In this day and age- disgusting. They got thier cases 3 days later.

And when the cleaners come round you say bye bye to your nice new sheets, pillows, towels etc and still have the hotel one's to put up with,
It's sad that you feel you have to do so, especially when your supposed to be on HOLIDAY and enjoying yourself

I usually take a wee packet of teabags too, and sweetners.....and the wee tubs of milk from the plane, so i can get me cuppa when i get there.......
I usually also pack some ice-cube bags, so i can stock up with ice for all my voddies and lemonade on the balcony. Also, anti-bacterial wipes...as i like to give everything the once over....Oh, and an i-pod and speakers....
Anything else, i usually just buy when i get there, at the end of the day, i am always too drunk to give a t*** when i fall into bed...but i have been known to take a wee pair of socks too....

I tmust be hard for people who have lost their luggage but at least we have a Jack Jones, Mango etc in PR. No proper knicker shops though. But we do have the shopping centre in Arguineguin which isnt too far to get too from PR.
If we are travelling by car, we always take our own pillows - not if we are flying though!!
And every time we travel, i always take the wrong things and vow that i will write a list of things I used or needed for next time - but by next time, I've lost my list

I take a cheap pillow when flying during the night.
I take basic medicines/first aid, tea bags...haggis and turnip for my friends in PR and occasionally soda bread! .....only because they like it honest! oh and a few clothes pegs to stop bikini blowing off balcony!
One thing I don't take is lots of shoes..too heavy!

Hi,
Having read it back it does sound funny to read what I take in my case, you all made me blush. I do take the tea bags from home, nick the creamers and sugar sachets off the plane. I have a friend early 50's who sid to me straight faced she would take a loaf of bread on hols as that bimbo bread/ bread you get abroad is no good. I said well you cant itll get squashed, to which she said she'd take it out lay it across the suitcase, I didnt know wether to believe her or not as she had seemingly thought it through, then terror oh the shame crept to mind what happens at check in customs at either end if they ask to open the case. She gave me look like you daft cow,but was she joking or not as when we were queing to check in our cases she reminded me and as far as I know she didnt, but then again they didnt ask us to open the cases 'Phew'
Sheets and pillow cases,my other half said it could sound like im opening a branch of Brentford Nylons, am a KKK meet or am a blanket trip outing organiser who keeping her hand in whilst on hols (give me strength, he does make me laugh).
Im not the only one on here im,who has endured an hour plus of a blanket trip with no intention of buying anything. Just for the free half day outing.

Picture the scene; We were staying at the El greco apartments, the day was much the same as any other, the sun was in the sky, the skies were blue, the seas were calm and in the air you could hear the seaguls, children playing and the brakes of the ever passing coaches outside. Mid morning not quite noon, my husband and I were up on the balcony i had a cuppa tea, he had a newspaper. When all of a sudden he grabbed my arm chocking and gesturing, tears running from his eyes. The chocking turned to laughter and looking where he was pointing was a man who all I could say should know better. He has a pair a speedo type thong (i guess made of liquorise- his bottom was v. hungry) on, red clogs. He looked like an egg in an egg cup, with pipe cleaners for legs. Everyday we were all greeted with this. Funny I couldnt tell you colour of the speedos, just the red clogs stuck.

I agree with whoever suggested a shop opening that sells the essentials such as underwear! The only underwear that we could find in PR was from the sports shops and they were Calvin Kleins. My husbands suitcase was lost by Thomas Cook on our flight out on Christmas Eve and he had nothing, apart from what he was wearing. It took 2 days to get his suitcase.
Lesson learnt-always split your clothes into both suitcases!

I say mum you dont have to take all that. If you do take it then put it all in the suitcase, that way you dont have to lug them about, she packs them I take them out put some in the case. When we get to where we are going each and everytime they reappear, not from the suitcase but her hand luggage, which my dear husband so kindly has been thoughtly fully carrying them for her. Cheeeekey!!! Andy and Louise, the answer to that is Yes, yes she does. She has a pair to sleep in,a pair i cant think of the company that makes them - they usually come in pastel with a white rubber lines/patterned sole. Then she does take her holiday slippers too (these stay packed away until needed for hols in the case) the ones with elasticated sides so when you take them off they front and back turn up- like the wicked witch on wizard of oz.
She put me onto the sheets and pillows thing and it stuck, I did say why not get a mummy shapped sleeping bag and make done with it.

Its a Thomson platinum holiday and as such you are allowed 5kg hand luggage, and a further 25kg baggage each. Obviously you wont need the whole 25kg for the two days. But on the other hand it is a better hotel and weve stayed in the platinum hotels before and you do have to dress a bit sharp for dinner, tidy for lunch and breakfast. My husband says "he is just taking a tooth brush, toothpaste, rolled up in a pair of pants in his pocket and thats it women"

I looked back over this thread and i loved the questions, given my previous answers/suggestions and reasoning. Is sunny d, male or female? no im most definately a laydeee (not an emily howard laydeee) and blonde, im brun, brunette or just plain brown haired. Im 5ft1, and tons of fun (well no ,thats not true poetic licence, thats from a song- sugar hill gang, im sure - you know hotel, motel, holiday inn de de de...)Tell you what though in the late 70's early 80s i did try to to turn my hair blonde, lighten my tresses with 'sun in'. come on girls and you boys, you know who you are who tried it too.
It didnt work for me, it turned my hair far from blonde, more a ginger. It was the in thing to try/do at our all girls school and I dont know anybody who had sunkissed blonde hair success from using 'Sun in spray'
I had the same problem with that l'oreal expertise, that doesnt work on my hair either, i just wanted some streaks, highlights -waste of money. Do they still sell 'Sun in?' anyone.

Ahhhh...Puerto Banus is beautiful..I was there in July and stayed in lovely private Golfing estate, up in the hills...
I was in awe at the cars posing around Puerto Banus, Bentleys, Lambourgini's, Ferraris....it was amazing.. The Yachts were just something else.. There was quite a selection of pubs/restaurants around both sides of the marina, but i did find them really really expensive, but worth it.
I must admit some of of the restaurants did tend to favour their regulars (people thats minted) before the general tourist like myself, as we were waiting for a while, yet they were letting others in and fawning all over them... They also gave us a cr** table and squeezed us all in, until we demanded to be moved....But the food was amazing....and i really enjoyed it....until i went to the toilet and found a huuuuuge black hairy spider sat in the toilet bowl...i swear my mum heard me scream back at home...lol
Have a wonderful time.....x

Thanks, cheers m'dear,
Really looking foreward to a quick break. It sounds really swish, bentleys, ferraris, yatchs im sure my pink ford ka wouldnt look out of place then:tongue: Yeah, tell you what Ive see it on the tv, the intraweb and we worked the google,it does look a bit pricey. We got a grrrrreat deal, all inclusive so weve saved on the spends of eating out and drinks. However it sounds like our days out will be look, dont touch and definately no buying. Omgd,if the restraunts and bars are that up themselves then me and graham, will whilst reading the menu, have glass of water-tap, 1 glass two straws, a bread stick then slip away , or the reality with our funds would see us around by the back door, having a lady and the tramp meal, 1 piece of spaggetti between us.
And spiders urgh, :blink:id definately be off ,scream id pass out or id be running about in circles like on the benny hill.
A little bit of sun, in nice surroundings is what im looking foreward too.
My mates are kicking themselves now the weathers changed, i text ,rang, emailed everyone i knew as soon as i saw the offers, im thinking Good, haha!!!!

Yup, you see alot of that on hols, some forget to bring their shame away. Graham calls them dolly birds, usually results in me being jabbed in the ribs, and him laughing to himself. The girls however dont miss a trick and :eyebrow:repeat what was said, usually loudly.
Ive taken on board your advice, the double bluff -On my way to the hotel,im stopping at the airport shops and will be aquirring a sunbrero, a straw donkey and will be word perfect in viva espana by morning teeehee :)

No god no we havent missed our flight,we drove down to my mums today, and we go tonight leave about 3'330 am our flights just 6am back sunday. We are going in my little ka car and i know the heater wont come on until we park up at gatwick, we will leave early but the m25 im sure will be clear anyways we need time to row before take off. And the girls are up, they wont go to sleep, ive told them theyve got to behave, my mums given up and gone to bed already.
Funny thats what he said, am i taking my sheets? and I am. So is he, but as i packed his case he wont know that until we get to the other end.As its halloween tomorrow maybe we could wear them through customs, then when they ask him to empty his pockets at the x ray bit, he'd die of shame pants in hand thatd serve him right:blink:. Graham he's such an easy going man of few words that when he has got something sarcastic to say its usually a corker, and im left with where did that come from.
Hopefully we will have two days of warm if not hot sunny sunny weather. Aberdeen lass says its expensive, fingers crossed we wont knock anything over in any shops - what does it say in shops here- nice to look at, nice to hold, if you break it consider it sold-damn!!:eyebrow:

Okay okay, theres a lot to tell it was excellent, a lot to see and not a lot to do i think unless you had a bit of cash (which we dont ,so we didnt) but we did a lot of things that dont cost a lot of money, plenty to see its just like on tv, itv marbeilla belles. Graham didnt show me up, infact hes quite the charmer a bit too much , he was on the verge of gigolo-ing himself to sleeping on the setee/floor/couch/outside at the hotel. Ive got a new printer all in one thing coming this week so will pop our photos them on here.
Rab C, of 'my suffering husband,Ha!! he laughed when I showed him the thread, but he is finiky, he has to sleep on, andfor as long as ive known him on silk pillows, he says they are better for your hair and skin,i said if you want them you buy them and he does.
"SOCKS", who mentioned socks, ok well now youve mentioned the socks , they were in my hand luggage, NO i am just joking LOL. I went to primark thinking well thats a cheap shop i can get some soft fluffy socks in here, they were actually £2 a pair, i then went to the 99p shop and got three pairs exactly the same ones- you see shop around. thats my tip.:tinysmile_fatgrin_t
Graham was sick at the airport, i told him to have something to eat before we left mums. Would he listen, hell no he's on his hols and at the airport he treated himself and had a full english cooked breakfast £9, i mean £9, i can do my shopping with the help of £9 Anyhow there were tears, and releif as we saw that again not long after he had eaten it, I dont want to be the one who says told you so, but as the results did show, you cannot eat that, that much, that early in the morning...
The girls when we picked them up, I asked how they liked the stay at their nans. They enjoyed it really, my mums funny, but then they said in the car back home, she had made porridge for breakfast and they didnt like it,but did eat it all, me being the caring mum I am. Said well your still here arent you. (good to see my mum, still treats the kids the way she did us when we were younger she doesnt take any nonsense, you either eat or you dont, what how much,im not made of money haha!!) Has anybody seen eddie murphey raw, stage concert when he wants mac donalds, and his mum wont buy it, she takes him home and she makes him mc donalds, well that could be my mother and many others on here im sure.

I was talking to a guy at work and he says he always takes a sandwich toaster, a cheap one usually from argos which he uses and leaves behind. He was telling me all the things you can cook in it,mostly cheese toasties (surprisingly), you know cheese, cheese and ham, cheese ham and tomatoe, but then he said you can cook eggs on it,ive never done that but i will take his word for that, that it can be done..

Toaster bags ,I saw those on Dragons Den, the man got investment for his idea. Ive seen them in Woollies made by JML and in the 99p store. I bought some this last week and you know i never thought to take them on hols to use in the toaster, thanks for the tip ill do that, and pass it on.
Whilst out one afternoon we bought toasted cheese sandwiches in a bar behind M&Ms upstairs, and it was only when I clocked the total properly I saw they were 2euros each. If Id have read the menu prices i wouldnt have paid that, i could buy a bottle of coke, loaf of bread and cheese from the supermarket downstairs and had toasted sandwiches in the appartment everyday for a week im sure. I wish i could remember the bars name, its an older engish couple (ill find it out). At this bar, id bought 3 toasties,me and graham had a drink each and for the girls i asked for a coke, then a second glass to give them half each. The man gave us two straws, how bloody mean is that..

I almost forgot, wear a coat, or take a coat or jacket with you. We came out in Jan/feb for two weeks year before last.
I dropped Graham, mum and the girls at the terminal took the car and parked it, just about to walk away and thought no i dont need my puffa coat, its too big and its going to hot in Gran Canaria and locked it in the boot. I got off the other end and it wasnt cold but it was that hot either, and at night it was cold enough for a jacket. We went about looking for a decent looking coat accross the road at the centre in puerto rico, and i ended up with a grey waffle jumper with 80's leather patches on it. Yeah it was warm, but looked awful.
I learned the hard way, to take a coat or look like boat people:wink:

10 pack Mini Chedders,
Graham has given up smoking and so snacks on mini chedders. Theyre in the car, in his bag. And when weve been on holiday they are in his case and some in the hand luggage. During the night youd hear a bedside cabinet/ draw opened, bag being slowly unzipped, or flick the switch and see him bent down the side of the bed rattling the bag trying to sneak them out. So home and away he wakes up with chedder crumbs in his bed and afro.:eyebrow:

I always pack my iPod, I can't live without music. And after I got the new kind of type where I've got movies and TV-series as well, that really comes in handy. Both on the 5,5 hours flight from Norway, and on quiet evenings in PdI.
Am preparing my iPod for another holiday these days...

This time we came over we did cruise and stay with Thomsons, 7days at sea and 10 days on gran canaria.
I bought the girls an inflatable ring and boogie board each from poundland/99p stores, and a pair of binoculars too. The inflatables they used every day onboard and when we got to gran canaria. The binoculars were from poundland camping section and i wasnt expecting too much but they were really quite good, you could adjust them to fit your face, and they had adjustable magnification and you could see quite aways. So definately packing them again, and keeping an eye out for the rings as much much cheaper than buying in puerto rico.
