What a horrific accident. I have flown with Spanair a few times and they were some of the best flights I have ever been on. I am flying 2 weeks today to Krakow and this just heightens my fear of flying.

Well it seems that there were 74 canarians aboard the fatal flight.
a memorial service is being held in las palmas I believe for families and friends of the the victims on saturday 30th aug and the spanish royal family are to be in attendance.
Meanwhile there are still problems hitting flights the other day a ryannair flight from bristol to mallorca had to make an emergency landing in france due to depressurisng 26 people were taken to hospital, also a flight enroute to lanzarote had to make an emergency landing in malaga.
my deepest synpathy to all those in gran canaria who have lost loved ones may they never be forgotten
RIP

Memorial service suspended
The memorial service due to be held on Saturday for Canarian victims of the Madrid plane crash has been suspended.
Las Palmas - 28.08.2008 - Initially scheduled for 6pm on Saturday in Las Palmas Cathedral, the funeral service was called off last night for reasons which are still unclear. A similar ceremony to be held in Madrid Cathedral on Monday has been put back to 11 September because of the real possibility that not all the victims will have been formally identified by the envisaged date. Government sources have denied that the postponement was requested by politicians due to agenda problems.

but was charged so whoes fault was it?
Doubt any one person will be charged, if its flying control surface failure and I read somewhere that its spouted that the flaps didn't deploy at take off, well that'll be at least three people directly involved, dual inspection (2) and the engineer who signed it off.
Its drummed into us at work at every course we take that if we sign for a job and we've gone out of the perameter of CAA/FAA procedures ( I.E. short cuts) then its that individual head on the block.
Cheers
Steve.
