We were on the island last September (05) staying at Glorias so rather than go down to the commercial centre (tiffs) everynight we decided to walk up to the europa, have to say it was pretty dead in comparison to other years all bar the Cottage that is, the place was buzzin' most everynight, had some good live artists on too, bar some guy who thought he sounded like Rod Stewart and the compare think his name was Terry kept things ticking over nicely so pehaps if you dont want or fancy a change from the continued thump thump thump from other bars then maybe give this one a try. http://www.canaryforum.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.canaryforum.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

a couple of years ago i was in teh cottage most nights when i was over with my mate, and it was brilliant , but since then steve yorke has left and not been in since ,

only thing i found is that i seemed to be the only English person in the bar , even my mate is scottish , and i had never heard The fields of atthanry till then , but i must admit when i went back the year later they recognised me from teh previous year and made a point of saying hello

Mostly English in when we were there, think a bloke called Big Ron has it now (there's a picture of him in the background of a photo of my Mrs on Rabs site.

Cheers

Must agree with Steve, the Cottage is a great place for an evening's entertainment, full of characters and such a good laugh there. Ron keeps things ticking over and the compare, Terry ... well... he's a bit of a must see! Right good laugh to be had, quite a carry on, as well as many others, like Neil,(the hippy) with the great singing voice,Jock Mackay, you'll have sore sides laughing.

Went last week to see Sean Slattery, who had previously done a great turn in the Shamrock Bar. 10 o' clock, the bar was empty, except for a wee Cockney sort wearing a luminous jacket. He assured us it would fill up later, but we didn't wait to find out.

Blimey!!!

Have to add I wasn't aware of any of the above going on other than having a good night back in September last year, had some real good singing artists on too especially some guy who wore a bandanna and looked a bit weathered. Place was packed most nights with English too, I dunno maybe its changed hands but big Ron had it last year.

Cheers all:have-fun:

I wouldnt go back to Scruffy Murphys while that Stevie bloke is there.

He thinks he is funny when he is down right rude to people. He wanders around outside with a microphone shouting at people and singing along wit the guys in the band. But he is singing over the guys in the band.

I wasnt impressed and walked out after about 15 mins.

Maybe its a glaswegian thing dont know but I wouldnt go back.

Good..glad Ron is still there, seems the bloke before him had a bit of a reputation? ah well as I never went in then so I can't comment, as for last year we had some great boozy nights up there and didn't hear any songs glorifying anything...roll on September.
