View Full Version : Forum less popular?

When I first started accessing canaryforum a few years ago, it was really busy, numerous posts on a daily basis. Now, it seems inl ine with the decreasing popularity and/or decreasing availability and value for money, the forum is also becoming less and less busy. It would seem logical that the two would go hand in hand. Even if I've not been on for a few days, I return to find only a few new posts. Has anybody else noticed this.

To me it seems about the same as it has been for the past 5 ish years. I log on every day about this time - finished work and now have to check up on every one - and every day there are about 20 threads that I have to work through. I might come on later and find 4 or 5 more threads posted on.
There are periods when it quietens down and in the last few weeks alot of the hardcore forumers have been on their hols in Gran Canaria

I have to agree with you Mary, as you know I have not been able to get on the forum as much as I used to, but to me when I do there is always something new. There is so much information on the forum now that people can find what they are looking for without posting.

Since there is a wealth of knowledge already on the forum, I suspect that many visitors do a search on the information they require, and, for this reason, do not start a thread

We also merge a lot of threads now so rather than starting a new one if there is already a thread with the info in we merge those together. Weekends are quieter but the weekdays seem just as busy.

I think the forums are just as busy as they have always been. Surely its about quality not quantity. I think this is a quality site and I would be lost without it and all the contributing members :tinysmile_fatgrin_t

I'm going to be honest and say since the change of format the forum seems to have gone quiet.. i just do not like the chatbox anymore..i don't like the fact that you got to log on then look around to find it..the chatbox was the heart and sole of the forum ...maybe just my opinion , but there you go...

I think this forum is the same as others. People get bored and go away for a while. People have other things to do and cant be here 24/7. Circumstances change.
Sometime days the forum is quiet thats just one of those things. All the "Visitors" should join in and become members and maybe then we can have some new threads, new questions, new friends.

I thought you just logged on and there it was at the top of the first page?
In the olden days, we didn't have a chatbox and that meant a LOT more posts elsewhere so maybe that is why it seems quieter also.

The forum always gets busy as people are getting ready to go on holiday and then quiet when they get back. I think the shoutbox being there is a nice feature but isnt the main reason for the forum and really we want to encourage people to post rather than chat.

Hadn't thought of this, and now that I do, I realise this could be a big contributory factor. It's obviously nice to chat, but how informative is it? And has it detracted from more established members' posting frequency?

the answer to that question is no. us hardcore forumers love keeping in touch and having a good laugh and joke through the chat and posting new threads and replying to queries at the same time, and in no way has it taken away the main object of the forum which is to be informative.

I think the Forum is getting more refined with age like a good red wine. Very useful for the browsers passing through and still lots of old timers always logging on as and when in support of this great site

maybe it just seems quieter, I just logged in and cant believe I am being told last time was July 29 2007, I thought I have logged in since then? Maybe I am just getting too old and starting to forget things or web site addresses.

Good post here that I think backs up the fact that we've such a lot of good informative threads now. http://www.canaryforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6818

The forum is a great place to find informative facts on the islands. Where ever we go we tell people to access the web site especially if they are visiting the Canaries.
We have met great friends over the years, visited fabulous places off the beacon track and it has been a great sorce of pleasure to BIG TONY and yes sometimes a pain in the butt to us his family!!! lol We have managed to find some very affordable holidays in some wonderful hotels and eaten in great restaurants which, I'm sure we would never have done had it not been for the forum.
More members would be great, more posts fab but then would I ever get himself back to work and off my computer or will he get a job at the office of tourism in PR???!!!!! lol xxx

Without doubt is a very good (the best) site for getting & sharing information on the islands. But when the sun is shining we are more likely to be out there enjoying it.
I have not been on as much recently -mainly computer problems that were finally fixed yesterday.
And must admit very sad to be back in UK.

I rather like this forum. It's friendly unlike some iv'e been on..no one seems to mind the odd speling mistake or bad grammar. The mods don't delete your threads just because they don't agree with you, or you write rubbish..it is like a good old wine ..as someone has said...(a cheap one from Tesco maybe) but nice all the same...Cheers.:boozy:
