hmmm you got me stumped too then but the female canary bird is mute and its the male that sings just checked that out did notice that your one had a slightly longer beak also but there are so many different varieties and also cross breeds but still looks like the small canary bird

I have just found one of my kids old books on the song of birds. The wood warbler is very similar to the chiffchaff only they sing a different song! The wood warbler has two songs one starts slowly and then gets faster 'Stip-stip stitititititipp-swee' The other is 'whee-ou' repeated many times. The Chiffchaff sings 'chiff-chaff, chiff-chaff, chiff-chaff' over and over again.

Now there is the Willow warbler's song which starts softly and gets louder and lower then fades away. Aparently the Willow warbler and Chiffchaff are very similar but the willow warbler has pale legs.

I can't beleive I've just written this I must be in need of a holiday Rab or going mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol:fatgrin:: boozy:

Well both babys fell out the nest yesterday.
I heard the mother cheaping madly, &
Luckly they landed in the flower pot full of leafs.
So i scooped them up in a big leaf trying not to touch them. And eased them back in. Had to cut some peices of another bush and weave it around the nest to make the opening smaller, and crossed my fingers.
The mother was having a mental fit, but i think she realised what i was doing then later she came back and today alls is well again.

Every year we have birds nest just above my daughters's bedroom and I always love watching them go in and out feeding the chicks. They never seem to stop facinating me. I hope your little birds stay safe. Let us know when they leave the nest.

By the way Rab I think you and I both need a holiday after reading your post!!

Bloody cats are soley responsible for the demise in the population of many of our garden bird species especially the common house sparrow, although it's their nature to hunt and kill things just for the hell of it I hate them. Irresponsible owners that let these despicable creatures out for the night
should be punished by stricter laws in this country. My area has more than enough of these "things" that whine all night and tear open black bags on rubbish days, they're vermin in my eyes, rant over grhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I class myself as a responsible owner with all my cats walking about with at least two sleigh bells each!!! I know what you mean though about irresponsible pet owners, you only have to look at the pavements round here!!!Not funny when you use a chair :veryangry:

As a responsible cat owner , I take objection to this .Whining at night ! bags ripped open ! more likely to be foxes then cats , and why , together with rats , foxes find life in town easier thanks to the anti-social lazy dirtiest animal on the planet.... man that disguards his waste willy-nilly.And thanks to the domestic moggie , the rat population is far less then it could be. So if you are happy living in a rat infested hole ........

I think because we all like watching the birds and enjoying them but some of us have our own wild animals (cats) and when nature kicks in some people have an opinion on this which is fair enough. The main thing is to continue to enjoy all life no matter what

Take it from me Dan definately cats I throw things at them some nights. You live in a rural location whilst I live in a very urban location and I'm well familiar with it's wildlife population including foxes and rats. If you read the post again I pointed out irresponsible owners and at no time referred to responsible owners. Totally agree with you on man being the planet's dirtiest inhabitants. Apoligies to Maxine for straying off her original thread !!!!!!
