Im thinking about booking a holiday today to go to one of the canary islands in early january.

can anyone please tell me which is the hottest this time of year? As ive never been away this time of year.

Is it very busy? is it tanning weather or just warm?

many thanks for any help!

The nearer you are to Africa, then the warmer you are but generally Gran canaria in the south is fine for tanning. You may get the odd cloudy day and some rain but if you pick the right week you should be fine

hello, thanks for the reply, so does that mean fuerteventura and lanzorote are the hottest then? because they look the closest to africa? I am probably going to come over for new years. Hopefully it will be ok then? thanks

the weather is still usually in the 70-80s.
it is the same on all the islands but there are differant bands of weather on each.
the south of each island is usually the best.
all the island are busy due to the weather at this time of year.

This website is great if you want to see the difference grafically:

You can see the difference between the islands, but as there is for example: only readings from Las Palmas for Gran Canaria you don't get the whole picture, as the weather in the north, middel and south of the islands can be VERY different. Gran Canaria is actually well-known for its many weatherzones. You can drive for 15 minutes and end up in a different zone.

Hello, thanks for getting back to me. Ive found two deals

one for £199 self catering in gran canaria in Maspalomas. I stayed there in july so i know my way around etc! leaving on 31/12/05

or the other is £224 all inclusive (which seems very very cheap) in Puerto de la Cruz in teneriffe. this is leaving on the 28th?

I just would like a very cheap holiday dont normally go away twice in a year!, how much money will i need for spening realisticly at this time of year? and which of these two deals seems the best in terms of the weather etc? I presume gc will be hotter? I would love to come back with a tan!

puerto de la cruz is quite a lot cooler at this time of year.
it has a differant climate to the rest of the island therefore every where is greener with all the plant life.
a lot of people from spain go on holiday there.
therefore they restaurants/bars etc cater more for the spanish and the large amount of germans that are resident there.
