Reading your post, Owen, about the police and the procedures when robbed, (having just had an experience of that sort!) I just had to smile when you mentioned the safety boxes. I know you are talking about the boxes in hotels, which in most cases, I believe, are fastened to or inside the wall. But here, in the bungalow that I am renting, the owner pointed out to me a safety box which is the size of a shoebox, "hidden" on the floor of the wardrobe, has the code in writing on a piece of paper on top as well as the key, and is of course, VERY removable. Why on earth do people even sell "safety" boxes like this? I wonder. It is easier to steal a safety box than to go through all the belongings, if you hear something rattle inside, eh?

I have just returned from PDI and I lost of the key (or was pick pocketed) of the safety deposit box.
The Hotel charged €30 for a replacement and the work service guy spent over half an hour driling into the old lock to replace it. Thought for a brief moment I wouldnt be able to get my personal belongings, Passport, money.........
So instead of taking the key with us it was hidden in the Hotel room, only problem was when we came home drunk we had forgotten where it was hid.
