View Full Version : Taxi prices set to increase 20% and more

The public street taxi prices I hear are about to go up by 20% - 30% during the day and evening and between 10pm and 6am by a staggering 50%.
Not sure if this is an exaggerated rumour but the fares will definately see a large increase in the next few days/weeks.
Currently, the typical cost of 30 euros to the Maspalomas area will be nearer 40 euros and the 45 euros to Puerto Rico will be over 55 euros by day and 65 euros from 22:00 - 06:00.
If you're planning on travelling from the airport or between resorts, always a good idea to ask about the cost before you get in and take a note of the taxi number.
Our transfer prices will also see a small increase once this is established but not by such a large margine and currently there's no change for the moment until this is confirmed and in place.

Me thinks I need to update the bus page with all the routes between resorts, Palmitos Park etc as we actually have a pretty good public bus service, air-conditioned, frequent, quick..... shall get that sorted over the next week or three.

That would be really helpful Owen as we'd like to visit Palmitos Park in April - took a taxi last April when we went and got ripped off big time - got the bus back later in the day !

good reason to get the cable car built as soon as possible from amadores.
taxi drivers cannot complain when they are putting up fares by so much.

If I compare the prices in PR with home along with the service then I don't have an issue at the price rises.
I pay far more in the UK for some clapped out car, usually stinking with a driver who asks me for directions, rolls up when it suits him and then beeps his horn if you are not out of the door within one second.
The PR cabs are impeccable compared to our local firms.

well heres my five pence worth im a cabbie over here and things are hard if the holiday makers are not going to pr then the cabbies will be finding it hard to make a living remember most of the jobs we do at nite is ferrying **** heads home and getting **** for doing it imho a cabbies job is a hard one try it for yourself and see how long you stick it the cab fares in pr are to cheap and a rise is only to be expected

I wont use taxis in the my local area anymore. If they're not very late - they don't even bother turning up & the excuses they use - must think I'm fit for the loony bin. Doesn't matter which no. you ring where i live - they are co-ordinated through the same central point Trafftax - whose call answerers are the biggest bullhsitters in the world.
I even reported various instances to the local borough council who licence the taxis- who lamely advise thay only licence the cabs - not the Trafftax organisation of cabs. Council did acknowledge there was a big problem with taxi service, but little they could do about it - so my protest is - i drive and don't drink - at least we can go where we want when we want - not at the whim of some bullhsitting taxi logistics co-ordinator who wouldn't know the truth if it smacked him in the mouth.

Well I have to defend the cabbies where I stay - they're nearly always really friendly, turn up when booked and don't have high speed conversations on their mobile phones while breaking all the speed limits and tailgating the car in front (unlike in PR !) Price here is more expensive though and at least if I'm in a taxi in PR, I know I'm on hoilday !

I live about 15 miles from the airport, and a I priced a taxi £38 one way.( with some old banger ) So when you compare that to PR taxi fares I don’t think they are bad.

I live over here and if the taxi prices go up I really wouldn't mind. They always take care of the cars inside and out making sure you don't sit in sand or somebodies sun oil.
I have also noticed lately that alot of them have bought new cars so you have more comfort for those longer trips. Here in Puerto Rico they have also changed from wearing white shirts to green tops to match the cars (how sweet...lol).
I have lived here nearly 3 years and they have never increased the price since I have been here. So I think it about time they did.

Well the prices are slightly up, but not as much as was first predicted. Still think they are very very good value here, compared to the UK.

Can't complain really, for as long as I can remember a taxi from Puerto Rico to anywhere else in Puerto Rico used to be about 3 euros, excellent value I always thought.
Do you know what the approx increase on this fare is?
