Pickwick's bar will be awaiting your visit with plenty of drink!
Thanks for the comments.
Looking forward to all your visits again for a few beers and a giggle!:boozy:
We've been at Pickwick's Bar in the Europa for a year now, have so many return visitors. It's great, we got regulars, visiting often more than twice a year.
The humour comes naturally.... with the stress of me :bronwen: and Peter :kma:putting up with each other..ha ha!
Looking forward to seeing all of our old friends(even if a couple do bog off to Fuerte!) and the new friends we've still to make.
Best Wishes to you all for 2006

carla is by far the friendliest bar maid in the europa and her tendency to leave a bottle of sambuca on the bar in front of me is great but does have some draw backs as anyone who went to the meet up in hotspot may have noticed lol

Can't believe that no one has mentioned this great bar for over a month now.
We've just got back, and the welcome is just as warm - providing that Peter hasn't got one of his "headaches" - then it's advisable to wisper your order!
Elvis has even been known to drop by for a "wee snifter"
They have now introduced a late bar snack menu - just the thing to cure an attack of the late night munchies. They're doing hot dogs, scotch pies, quiche, bacon sarnies, and cheese pockets, which are great.
Thanks for all your hospitality folks - may you have a good summer, and - we will return.
All the best ,

I'm looking for some advice for two young people who have been in Puerto Rico looking for work in bars/hotels etc. with no success for three weeks now. Is the tourist trade slow to pick up this year? Or are there vacancies that anyone could suggest?
Thanks,

It is quiet this year apparently although reports from maspalomas say they are busier. Tell them to keep knocking.
I met a girl who arrived on the island and got a job after 3 days on Amadores. She must have been in the right place at the right time

JPM, I'm afraid things are quiet, every year it seems to be getting slightly worse, hope the cycle ends and things begin to turn around soon.... We went to Tenerife for a few days last week, and everyone we met there said exactly the same.... so be careful when coming out to get work, make sure you have enough money to see you through a few weeks, while you search. It is a matter of being in the right place , as Mary says, and getting to know people here, who can give you some leads.
Great news Shez and Pete, can't wait to see you both again, will see what we can do about LEN for Christmas!!!
Had quite a night last night with Shortiehttp://www.smileyhut.com/hair/punk.gif, Jools and co. over.
Having a mini (mini cause no RabC squad over!!!) ratpack 'do' with the ones who are here on tuesday, so if you are in the area folks, do join us.
Lucky you Andi having a quiet time during the football, we had quite a crowd in, a lot of people found us as they enjoyed watching in comfort and had a laugh, chat... and a whinge!! without the headbanging music and noise... hope it's the same and another victory on Thursday...

My nephew his wife and young kid have just returned from The Gloria Palace. He told me he was in Pickwick's 4 nights of each week and that he really enjoyed himself. He was telling me he asked Carla if Pickwick's used to be called 'Whole of the Moon' or something like that. He could remember his Dad taking him there as a young lad, back in the eighties.
He said to say Hello Carla....So Hello Carla, from Duart, Louise and Little Daniel.

when out in 1994 we drank in the bar called man in the moon ,which i think was in the same place as pickwicks, the owner was called as i remember was stan the man he was from leicester he was a bulider , he
heard after that that he was ill and had to return to the uk. . while we were out in feb 06 the children couldnt stay in the bar {pickwicks} as the rule is either kids or smoking, not a problem to us as our kids are old enough to go in the amusements , so still like to go in because it is a good relaxing bar and pete and carla are always welcoming , in the summer it is not much of a problem as it is warm on the nite ,but in the winter it can get a little chilly to sit outside , still be back in in feb07 just give the kids a few euro to go in the amusements.

we often have a scrumpy jack when in palma nova and that is supposed to be similiar to stowford press so it has to be a dry cider seen the new one advertised think its on the shelfs in sainsbury stowford with a taste of raspberry called kiss.

Hi Carla,
Stowford Press cider is brewed up in Herefordshire by the Weston family. It's a crisp refreshing drink obviously served best well chilled. Although it is brewed about 70 miles from where I live in Cardiff, the last pint I had was in the Algarve believe it or not. I remember it well as I was craving for a cold cider one night, we walked into a bar in Alburfuera and bingo there it was on draught, heaven !!
Turned out the bar owner was from Bristol and this was his favourite drink. Sat there for a few hours and staggered out later very very merry.
Here's the Weston's web-site for you to explore:-

carla babycham is back big time in my area specialy with the underage teenagers drinking buckfast and babycham before the police catch them and confiscate the stuff lol. wonder if russ has tried it.
heres a little article I came across showing that they are trying to put it back to the top again. not sure but i think they call a cider whisky and babycham a snakebite in my area and i can see why it has some sting me!!!!!!!! i would call it a siberian mule as served correct it is very cold with a good kick.
right education over for today lol.
Babycham (Trade name) is a light, sparkling perry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry) invented by Francis Showering, a brewer in Shepton Mallet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepton_Mallet) in Somerset (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somerset), England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England). Launched nationally in the UK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom) in 1953 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953), the drink was possibly the very first 'alcopop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcopop)', marketed with pioneering television (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television) advertisements (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advertisements) to appeal to women.
Popular through the 1960s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960s) into the 1970s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970s), the brand's appeal waned with the rise of wine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine) and ready-mixed spirit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic_beverage) drinks. The current owners are trying to reverse this, with some success, following the reinstatement of its leaping fawn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fawn) trademark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trademark), a giant version of which used to adorn the Shepton factory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factory) where it is produced.
Possibly indicative of its status at the time, it appeared as the butt of many jokes in the 1993 BBC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC) comedy series The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, suggesting that it was a suitable drink for babies. It is also referenced by several characters in the 80s TV comedy The Young Ones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Young_Ones_%28TV_series%29) . In addition it is referenced in the 1988 film "The Firm" (directed by Alan Clarke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Clarke)) in which a football hooligan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_hooligan) jokingly tells his friend who is ordering drinks at the bar "Hey, I'll have a Babycham"
A particularly lowbrow (yet delicious) beverage can be made by using Babycham as a mixer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixer) for brandy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandy). The resultant "Brandy and Babycham (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Brandy_and_Babycham&action=edit)" was particularly en vogue in Blackpool (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackpool) during the 1980s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980s).
Similarly, in central Scotland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland), Babycham has in recent years been used as a mixer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixer) for the fortified wine Buckfast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckfast). This potent blend is known as "Buckcham" or "Babyfast".
Babycham is also a Jamaican dancehall artist.

Hi Rab,
Yes it's Wiggythe chemist. Thought I'd shorten the name as eveyone calls me Wiggy anyway.
The Vintage reserve is sold on the Westons website as 12 x 500ml bottles for around £28 - not cheap but worth it. Never seen cans.
They do various ciders, scrumpys and perries in bottles and 3 and 20 litre boxes. If Pickwicks has got any of the Stowford Press left in December I'll definately be drinking it.
Cheers

I have been going to PR for many years and I must say Carla and Pete have made Pickwicks one of the nicest bars in PR,
great atmosphere they make everyone welcome, and so very cool with the air conditioning, all last week it was in the 30s outside but great inside, I can recommend it to any one.
It was really nice to meet a few members Big Baz -- -Big Craig---Brian and Chris, going to Pickwicks I met a former member Deedle Chorltons Mum ,
Plus I got to sign the famous Forum Members Book
So thanks to Carla and Pete for a great time and I am sure I will be back in the bar again next year.

Thanks very much Askim, and BigCraig for the kind words,
but as I've said before, we really do get smashing visitors to the bar, so it makes for a great atmosphere in the bar anyway.http://forum.buffyworld.com/images/smilies/hug4.gif
Cheers for the Buckie! my mates are over this week, and so I've got another couple! A few Buckie shots are usually drunk during the evening! Seems a waste to use iot in the cocktails!!!
Baz and Mary, hope things are ok at home now, miss the Tayside Terrorish carry on!
We'll keep a few Dr Peppers, with bottles of Amaretto for u Shortie ...and JOOLS!!!
But... invented a new fruit saladish type one now, one day when shock horror the FLUGELS ran oot! It's really lovely!
Forgot Chorlton's mum, was Deedle, but she came racing in one night to say hi, didn't get a chance to chat much, but thanks, was lovely that you bothered to come in.
Hope to see you in march, then Craig, pity u not here now, we could've watched the match wi buckie and magners!
Thanks again, all of you for coming to visit and your comments.

Glad you two had a great holiday and thanks for letting us be a part of it. we had a good time and a laugh too....as well as a few hangovers!!!
For all other forum people, this lady sums up what the forum is about, looking up and visiting places that people have recommended on this forum, and then making up your own mind on your holiday. They visited many of the places to eat and drink recommended by the forum gang here, how good a job is the forum doing, good on ya Owen!
We are very lucky to get so many really cool people who do find us, stuck around the back, through word of mouth and more and more from the forum.
Our guest usually have a good time with us, we get so many comeback visitors now over every few months(BAZ!!! not long now!!)
Just to let you know folks, we were closed for a few days for a bit of a clean up, new floor(looks great! Ta Dennis and Lee!) etc. Got a right nice bunch back over from Doncaster way, who have just told us off for being shut.....
So we were busy little soldiers opened up now, after another major clean , left our Baby Brian the Bairn to it for a bit till us oldies recover!
Hope to see a few more of you back soon...... bring your slippers for the new floor!(JOKE!)
Ta Baz, told Brian about your message for Cora.(she's a beaut, by the way, got her mum's looks.....thank goodness, not her Dad's!!!)
