RTN had a very interesting article this week regarding the law concerning what the Spanish call dangerous dogs, www.roundtownnews.co.uk/index.php?option=com_flippingbook&Itemid=72&book_id=3 (http://www.roundtownnews.co.uk/index.php?option=com_flippingbook&Itemid=72&book_id=3)
I like the parts about having to see a psychologist and take a test and to disclose any criminal records, might be worth thinking about before shipping your dog out here as the spanish are really tough on dogs they class as dangerous.

the laws on dogs stem back to about 10 years ago when there was a spate of dog attacks, the one that started it all was in mallorca, it was a dogo argentino breed. pure white pink eyes and mental. it killed a child. the laws now are strict but in rico not very well enforced. remember there are no bad dogs just bad owners

I work in the animal industry in England and have quite strong views on dangerous dogs. I think it is important to be strict and enforce the rules so that the animals don't get into irresponsible hands.
Some people are very responsible but it is important to know what you are getting into and how to handle and care for a dog that potentially could be dangerous.
However I do think that any dog has the potential to be dangerous they are after all an animal with instincts and not furry humans joining your family.
Just my opinions of course.

All dogs over 25kg are classed as dangerous here, and these are the new laws in so even if you have done all the paperwork Jim I would pop to the town hall to have your criminal record and psychologist reports done or it is anything up to a 15,000€ fine.

we got the local vet in puerto rico to sort all the paper work out for us when we moved over i was lucky as i had a enhanced disclosure done for my job just before we moved over and this was valid here we were sent a card back from the town hall with all are details on and the vet said this is to show to the police if they stop you in the street with the dog,he's the only dog ive seen over here with the right stuff on when he goes for a walk ie short lead and muzzle i think thats why ive not been stoped.
This is a very good post that lou has added as most people will not KnoW what is needed if you have a big dog over here.

All dogs, large or small, have the potential to be dangerous. No question.
I have been around dogs all my life and have always had a respect for them, whatever the breed.
They derive from wild animals and will defend themselves, no matter what, if they feel threatened. Even the most placid of dogs will turn if it feels it needs to defend itself.
We all think we know our dogs. But do we really?
Don't get me wrong, I love dogs and have two, but I am always aware of what they are capable of.

Aaaaaaawwww, so cute!!! Like a big teddy! Brings back sweet memories. I had a big dog like yours when I was a child who cuddled up with me like that.

this law does'nt come into force until the new year, it's in anyones interest to look into it, as different regions of Spain will enforce the law in different ways. we have a biggish dog, he's kept on the lead most of the time plus we always carry a muzzle(Carla says the muzzle is for me)... but it is worth a word with your local vet he will be up to speed on the new laws.

I had a problem last week with a ¨ wild dog ¨ i only had to leave the complex where i live (don´t be nosey viewers) and walk a few yards to my car to find this ¨evil looking dog¨ that looked a bit like a ¨Dingo¨ ( a ¨very scary¨ dog normally found in Australia) ¨scampering about¨ and ¨growling at me¨ whilst ¨foaming at the mouth¨ (the dog,not me may i add) and then i had to sit in my car with the doors locked for an hour,in a ¨complete nervous state¨ worried that the moment i tried to get out of the car i was in risk of having my ¨BRAZILS¨ chewed off.......................
(kind respect where due ladies)
The dog has now been removed.
