I have not been to the Las Palmas Carnival but did go to the PDI carnival a couple of years ago. In PDI they had a seated area in front of the stage that were ticket holder seats. But you still could got a good view. Most people booked tables for dinner upstairs so they could sit in comfort over a meal & drinks & watch. (In the Yumbo )
The drag Queen contest was amazing the costumes cost fortunes to make.David Beckham was one of the judges that night.
Due to a health scare last year I had to miss it but made sure I will be there this year!!!

You won't actually have any chance of getting into the drag competition without tickets but you can see bits of it through the fences (not much though) and there's thousands outside in the park on the night and still the carnival atmosphere. After the competition is over the all-night street party starts until dawn. Everyone then goes home to sleep, late start to the following day which is the day of the big parade (starts around 4 or 5pm)

Coming to PR 28th Feb, thinking of going to carnival at Las Palmas & PDL, does it really go right through the night? Thinking of getting bus (don't want to take car, like my pop!:boozy: ) in evening and early morning bus back to PR but afraid of getting stranded with nothing to do!
Two weeks today... can't wait! :packed:

If you arrive on the 28th then good carnival night is the actual "wake" that rab mentioned. The sardine symbolises the carnival and dies on the 3rd March. From around 6pm onwards everyone changes costumes and that day dresses in black but still in daft and extravagent costumes and scream and cry along the streets. That goes on until everyone is too fed up or too drunk to cry any more then they go to one of the "chiringitos" /bars or stages where there's a DJ and dance for the rest of the night. Yes, it's literally all night long. The 5th is the last parade of the sardine (30 foot model) from the old part of the city to the Las Canteras beach where it's burnt and buried and then there's fireworks and yet another all night party.

We must try to get to Las Palmas for that. As I stated earlier we have only managed to be in PDI for the carnival there. And unfortunately we had to fly home on the Saturday night. Will try to get some photo's for Rab(if camera is mended in time)
