Thanks for the replies.I must have seen it before but will try it in 2006.We normally stay at the top ie. Colina mar, Puerto Azul but we are going back to the Terraza Mar again this year as the kids love it there. We normally have a few nights at the Colina Mar and will pop in to the Bistro Frere on our way.

Oh no! How sad! We only got in once but Alice was so kind and the food was so nice, along with the view and everything!
If we`d known the Europa Center was as nice we would have been up there a few times but we stayed at Terrazzamar and mainly went to the CC and once down to the marina! :dumbfounded:

Oh No!

So sad because I had heard so many good things about this place but in all my trips before I hadn't ever gone in.

I had it on my list of must visit places.

Does anyone know when it's closing?

That is such a shame, we always had at least 2 meals,(and darn good meals too), when we were over.

After visiting PR for the last 10 years or so, I had noticed that things weren't as lively as they had been, but this must be worrying for the other establishments in the Centre.

Hi Vicky.
several things led to the decision.

Vicky
12th June 2008, 10:57 AM
It really is such a shame, honestly my meals out wont be the same not being able to go there.
We are coming over with the brother in law and family this year and had told them all about the place.......best beef stroganoff ive ever tasted!

Ive just tried to email Alice and Nigel with my best wishes at the hotmail address in here but it keeps coming back to me so please pass on my regards (i know they wont remember people by name but Alice would know us if we went in!)

Anyway hopefully we will see them somewhere in August and we will give the Barbacoa a try......thats never been a place ive gone for a meal to be honest.
I hope Nigel will be taking some of the meals he does in Bistro onto the menu over there?

Vicky, there email-address is bistro.frere@ntlworld.com (bistro.frere@ntlworld.com) but it is only one of my spare ones. I used to pass on there bookings by phone to help the forumers book tables, I will pass on your message as I will be speaking to her tonight, and as soon as I know if Alice is going to work somewhere I will let everyone know so they can pop in and see her because, I know it is with deep regret that they are closing.

Hi there

please can you say hello to Alice & Nigel from Tracy & Jane- we are so upset to hear Bistro Frere has closed. We've not managed to get out to PR yet this year & so we've not seen them in a while.

will try the email address you quoted- if they have a different one they are using please let us know

:sadguy:

Hi Jane no this is the only e-mail address they have. They are not on line. I will pass on your message to night, but if you would like to email them on this address bistro.frere@ntlworld.com (and this applies to all members) I will print them all and take them over next month, as we will be with them then.

:boozy::boozy::boozy:

Oh goodness me, you wouldnt want that.
At least they are still on the island and you'll be able to see them on a night off rather than seeing them whilst they are working and maybe Alice can have a bit of a rest

Was a very sad night last night on their last day... and it was packed. Even Ches is upset... no more special Nigel bones for him!
Wish you both well.... and the Barbacoa is a very well loved place anyway, it brings many up to the Europa, now, it'll be even more popular because of Nigel's quality of food.
Thanks to all of you at Extreemz for the do on saturday for Alice and Nigel, was a lovely thought and chance to talk to them socially, outside the workplace.

When is Nigel starting in Barbacoa?
Will he be there by August when we come over does anyone know.
Also is he going to be doing any of the meals he did in bistro? or just the normal Barbacoa menu.....not that i know what thats like as ive never been LOL

Nigel is starting in Barbacoa this week so you'll be okay in August. Who knows they might incorporate some of his meals into their existing menu. (Rack of lamb hopefully). I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. Bistro is next door but one to us at Angelo's and we'll miss them as they are lovely people and were good neighbours to us since we've been here.

I have just spoken to Alice. She has asked me to pass on this message.

" It is with great sadness that we are no longer able to keep the Bistro open. But both Nigel and myself would like to take this opportunity to thank all our past customers, who we would like to think we have become friends with over the years.

We will miss you all even though we only seen you a couple of weeks a year.If anyone would like to pop in to say hello both Nigel and myself will be working in the Barbacoa".

Anyone know if Nigel has managed to influence the menu at the Barbacoa yet, hope so as the old menu could do with a revamp.

Vicky
4th September 2008, 07:26 PM
Not when i went in we decided to give it a try and i do think it was a new menu as the old one had never appealed to me this one is split into 4 sections i think it was pub, italian, mexican and steaks.
To be honest we had 1 ok ish meal, tried it again and decided we werent over keen...... it was ok but a bit like basic british pub grub also my Brother in La had an under cooked chicken wing and the response was ok i will tell the kitchen and that was it so he wasnt best impressed!

It made a huge impact on our holiday with bistro being shut it really was our fave place and although we go to other nice places we did miss it as im sure we would have managed about 4 or 5 visits in 2 weeks!!!
