I do not live in Gran Canaria but have an apartment there. We visit the island a few time each year. From my observations, I believe that the prices for electrical goods are similar to that of the UK. (Some cheaper, some slightly more expensive).
Be aware however that while TV is transmitted here using the PAL system like the UK, it is not exactly the same, reception may be impaired.
Prior the the collapse of this excellent site last December, there were many posts similar to your request. The general consensus from many who moved over to GC permanently was, "come over and purchase here".
Example: bought a very basic DVD player, cost €29.00 or about £19.50 in Media Mart near Las Palmas.

Now,when moving over here to live, all you do is bring your "clothes" (not forgetting the wife of course! lol)It is best to buy "everything" once you are here,Things are generaly cheaper here and a huge choice of things are available.Satelite tv is not a problem either.I have my own apartment here with satelite television and i have all the useful contacts for those sort of things.

Another vote for buy everything here including the TV then sign up with canal+ satelite company as you can switch many of their programs from Spanish into English.

You can buy kitchen stuff in 1 Euro shops in Las Palmas - that's what I'll do. But then.. I'm not really a wizard in the kitchen so I don't need quality kitchen stuff...:D
Also when you calculate how expensive your electrical goods will be on GC compared to UK -
remember that it costs something for the weight to bring it over too - so I would say it will be cheaper to buy on GC for most things.:packed:
And some things might be destroyed on the way so that's a risk to consider too.
I'm not bringing much more than clothes (a lot as I'm a woman..) and most importantly my books:wub:

we shipped everything over here but have found that some of our stuff is too big for apartments etc here. Sofas are hard to get and we love our big feather filled sofas. For furniture your first place will be IKEA later you'll find other places. So if you dont like IKEA then ship some stuff over.
You need to work out replacement costs against shipping costs really. It cost us about 4,000 pounds to ship everything from our house over. Our sofas were old but replacement was about 2,000 euros. Then computers, bikes, beds .... I suppose in hindsight i would have given it all away and started afresh here but some stuff is so hard to get rid of or give away
Bikes are cheap - we have Decathalon here which is a French sports shop. Really good prices.
