View Full Version : Burglary in my bungalow!

God, sometimes it is hard to be alone. I went out last night at 8 p.m and came back at eleven. I had left the lights on, my bungalow is a corner one and beside a dark garden which is fenced off. As soon as I had opened the gate and walked to the terrace I saw a lot of dirt on the tiles. I then saw that one of the terrace doors was slightly open and peeped inside (lights on) and saw that my computer was no longer on the table. I went directly outside the gate and called 112. They came and what a show Well, I am not going into that. I spent most of the night giving a report with the assistance of my invaluable Spanish teacher who came in the middle of the night to help. I walked around after I came home, finally got some sleep at 8 this morning.
Now I have booked in RIU in Meloneras for the night!!! Hope to get some sleep.
Can anyone lend me a dog????? What can I do in a situation like that? Made a contract until May.
No telephone, camera, computer, etc. etc. but the left the printer ... for later???
Hope this is not a common situation. I wonder if I can get some security for tomorrow (Sunday) and whether I can then "move it with me to my new home in May?

Also sorry to hear about this. Did you have insurance? I know it doesn't help replace everything but if on ground level obviously essential to have. Also if your lights were on and done in such a short time, probably done with the help of a neighbour.....

You poor thing. Yo did all you could - light on etc. Someone must have been tipped off - contact your insurers and put it down to a horrible experience

"made a contract till May".So, I assume you are renting. Any decent Landlord will allow you to terminate contract without penalty. So, if you fell unsafe, get somewhere else. Just one point - was it forced entry ? or did the thieves just lift and slide the door open ? If it was the latter, then you can easily argue that the property wasn't in a fit state for habitation. Get the landlord around to put proper locks on everything. IMHO, J.

Thanks everyone, it actually really helped reading your mail!! I am now writing from my own computer again, a brand new one, I had it insured and have to send the bill to the insurance company. The security people cannot come to take a look until Wednesday. I don't know if I dare sleep here again alone, I will see what I do.
The lights were on, this inside and out, but the bungalow opposite is unoccupied and the neighbours can not see my entrance, even if the outdoor light is on. The gardner showed me yesterday where two large holes had been cut into the iron fence around the garden which is next to my bungalow. He said he cannot fix it until the police has seen it. The police (when they came here) never made a single effort (in my opinion) to do anything to find out any possible reasone, identity etc. There were a lot of footprints outside, they just disgarded them when I pointed them out to them. They dusted for fingerprints in two drawers and on the glass sliding door, which had been opened and I cannot say for sure whether it was properly closed (inside the wooden sliding doors). I don't know, but just dusting for fingerprints and then just leaving the "dust" on, is that enough? No camera ... no "taking" of fingerprints... no notice of what I said had been taken???? This fingerprint police is the ones that came the day after. Anyway, thank you all for the replies, I just wish that you could have mailed me a dog or two...

So sorry to hear this eyja. Id suggest you look into a wireless burgler alarm, wouldnt take much work to install, and uninstall when you move.

Its such a shame you don't feel safe in your own home.

When I lived in a flat my Dad installed a wireless alarm - it was only a cheapie thing from B&Q but it had an IR sensor and let off enough of a wail to scare someone off. However if they have been watching for you go out, even the loudest alarm wouldnt put someone off as they would know you weren't in. Just be glad that you were out and didn't confront anyone.

On the dog front - is that a possibility - I'm sure there is one in a rescue centre somewhere just waiting for you.

Thanks, Mary! Animals are not allowed here in this small area of bungalows. However, the German lady next door has two cats. And there is a sign, of course, out in front by the gate that there are perros peligrosos inside and then another sign when you get in which says that please to transfer the animals from your bungalow to the gate in cages.
I have now made the inside of this bungalow like a nuthouse. I have covered the windows with the latest Canarias7, then put two chairs on top of each other in front of one door, the other has a bigger chair with a pillow on it, and on the pillow is not a headless man but a headless hat. After all this work of art (thought I might hide the blue light of the new computer) I went outside, and it looks just like before, dark. I then put the barbq in front of the wooden doors, two chairs, again on top of the other, double locked the door and now what? I am keeping the tele on all night and disconnecting the computer, sticking it under my man's manless mattress and I have put a carving knife and a big sharp fork on my nighttable along with the telephone. Would cucaracha spray work as a maze? You know, the even stole a gas curler that cannot be bought here and I had just received from Iceland, looking forwards to straighten out some of my curls. Plus my brand new mixer, the most expensive I have ever seen! Of course it was still in the box, bought it that same day. Or did I already tell you all of this. Just trying to pass time until it gets bright again in the morning so I can sleep then....
What a dramatic account of nothing, really!:banghead:

Oh you poor thing - I hope you eventually got some sleep. This has really frightened you hasn't it. You must remember, whoever did this was only interested in stealing from your house and not doing you any harm - indeed cowards like this don't want to encounter anyone when they do this sort of thing - they won't come in if they know someone is there as they don't want to get caught.
