I hope you can help me. I am coming to PR in March and finding it difficult to get an apartment, even through Owen. I can find availability at the Arizona apartments but there are a mixed bag of reviews, some great some awful (break-ins a particular worry). Do any of you have any first hand experience that you can share with me?
Many thanks
Ian

we stayed at the arizona in jan 04, apartments lovely and spacious, patio at the front with table and chairs, outer area at the back for beach stuff and washing line. fridge freezer, kettle, toaster, microwave. telly, toilet downstairs, bathroom with hairdryer upstairs. round the corner from the commercial centre, we didnt get disturbed by any noise! pool nice but was chilly in jan, poolside bar did nice snacks for kids and adults alike. we didnt hear of any break ins whilst we were there, just use the same attitude as at home, dont go out and leave windows and doors open or unlocked, get a safe for valuables and enjoy!

Agree with the above, stayed in June '04. The pool could get a bit busy, but that was about it. Also never heard of any break ins, and the apartments themselves are huge.
Bit of music noise from the clubs at night, but nothing else. I'd stay there again...

We've stayed here and would certainly return. The break ins were a few years ago. They have since, erected a large wire fence all round the bottom area which makes the complex a lot more secure now. Pool area is a bit on the small side and people were out laying towels on the sunbeds, just after 7am and no, they weren't germans.

we stayed in them in oct 05- 2 rooms for our party, ours wasnt completely re furbed but hey-who needs 2 bathrooms anyway. apartments were fine and secure, its like anywhere really, if you go out at home you lock the doors and shut the curtains, try not to leave any valubles on display which is why they have security safes. we also stayed at them 3 years ago when there were people saying of break ins in the complex but we didnt and never have had any problem there.think they are just isolated incidents and more often than not with the sun and sangria people let there guard down a little....so if you stay there enjoy and dont worry

Nothing wrong with Arizona Apts.....Couple of years ago they had some minor problems but they have been refurbished and a new security fence put up around them. You enter from the top of the complex, where the little reception area is. We were on the bottom level, where the pool and excellent poolbar is. Also there is a security gate on the bottom level which gives access, with use of a key, to the main road where you only have about 100yds to walk to the commercial centre. I would try and get an apartment on the bottom level if I was you or you could have a lot of stairs to climb.
These apartments are duplex, with a bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs and another toilet downstairs. I would certainly use them again.

thanks KT we booked these apts as we needed a two bedroom with space and these looked ideal dont need nothing flash just a clean room to get your head down and security so hopefully these will be great thanks for the tip on the steps its just that i read somewhere they are easier to break into on the ground floor sometimes you can read too many negative write ups while we have been on holiday we have never had a problem with break ins but heard the usual stories of certain apartments being robbed i guess as long as you lock up at all times you are safe thanks again

Stayed here a few years ago. No complaints. Lots of room. Ask a reception for another key if there are more than 2 of you. The entrance gate to the complex locks so two keys are handy. Nice wee pool bar as well.

Just out of curiosity Jubyloo, but did you book these apartments as a package holiday (if so, with which company) or as a seperate package (flights, accomodation etc all seperately).
We usually stay at the Carlota Apartments but now my friend and his wife have seperated and his new partner won't go to any apartment he used to visit with his wife.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hola
We were hoping to stay at the Sunshine Villas this year but it proved to be a little too expensive for our friends:no: , back to the drawing board.
So after hours of scouring the net we found a really good deal for the Arizona Apartments price wise with good flight times, so we booked it. Then we read a lot of negative reviews and the fact that First Choice had dropped it from their brochures. Ok I know enough not to read too much into peoples ranting on the many holiday review sites. We only usually read them to get any tips about the accommodation but then we find that this accommodation has been dropped by the only major tour opp it had. Then to our surprise  we read on another wed site that they are now closed for refurbishment and will open again mid July. After all that’s been said above, we hope that the info on a refurbishment is true. Does anyone on the board know if it has indeed closed down for a refurb.:thumb:
We know the location of these apartments as we have walked past them many time, so we know the location is very good.
Thanks Daz.:)

Yes, they are closed for a refurb. We were in P.R. last week and Arizona Apts were definitely closed.
We have stayed in these apartments in the past and never had any problem at all. Better to get an apartment on the bottom level, that's where the pool is and access to the street is through a security gate. No steps if you are on the bottom level...other levels mean lots of steps.

Thanks for that KT:thumb:
Well at least if they are doing a refurb it puts most of the reviews we’ve read to bed.:thankyou: The room we have booked is (room type; C, duplex x 2 bedroom bungalow (2-5) garden/pool view) not sure where theses are within the complex.
Not too bothered about the noise from the CC that some complain about as we are night owls. LOL

Arizona Apartments
First impressions was very good, the layout of the place looked very nice with all the gardens and flowers that greets you when you walk into the complex. The room layout was also very good in our opinion with a large open lounge-kitchen with fridge freezer, toilet with hand basin and washroom down stairs. Up stairs we had two bedrooms with two single beds in them and a bathroom. One of the bedrooms had a small balcony type room to it and a safe (15 Euros for the week with a 10 Euro deposit) in the wardrobe. The bathroom had a hand basin, bidet, shower and toilet with a good supply of loo roll. Outside we had a small patio area with lots of flowers and a small palm tree. Our apartment was on the second level, so only one set of steps when entering the complex via the swimming pool entrance. There was around 5 entrances around the complex that consisted of large security gates that you are given a key for with your room key. Swimming pool wasn’t very big but ample size for the people that was using it the week we were there. Pool bar did meals, not very good in our opinion but then again it was only a short stroll to the commercial centre for some thing a little better. Happy hour at the pool bar was 4 while 5 but we spent most of this time of the day around our patio area in front of out apartment. The location of these apartments was ideal for us as we were on the bottom level of the valley with only a few steps to climb to our apartment, no need for taxis. Didn’t really hear too much noise from the Commercial centre at night as we rarely got back while 2 to 3 in the morning. Only saw one cockroach around our apartment the whole week but they don’t bother us too much anyway. Only thing that bothered us was the people that constantly left the security gates open day and night.
Would we go back to the Arizona apartments again? Yes we would as were looking to go back ASAP.:)
Any questions just ask or send a PM

appartments are great for cc. if you come out of commercial centre by royal oak/ taxi rank and cross at the crossing and go up the steps you find the arrizona after the first flight of steps, or you can get to another entrance by crossing at the same place by taxi rank, turn right and walk towards beach, bearing left for about 250 yards and you come to another entrance by the car hire place (mencys i think). if you look up from cc its right in front of puerta feliz. you can hear a bit of noise from cc but not loud and wont bother you, im going oct 25th with my 11,9 and 6 year olds, no probs

Sorry about the apartment looking untidy but we had the brother in-law and his wife with us. LOL
We’ll try and make a better effort when we go back at the end of next month. Staying at the Inagua apartments for 9 days, it’s a new one on us and can’t find much info about it.

These apartments are just behind our clinic. The pool bar always looks fun and there's a nice atmosphere around the pool. Good spot generally - just a short walk away from the main CC

Best part about these apartment is no steps ( except around the complex) or big hills to climb and no taxi's required.

is the noise sleep throughable (I know that's not a word :) ) for adults? Im not to bothered about my son as I know he will go to sleep fine and sleep through an earthquake Im bothered about us adults......
I think it was there we were stayin one time when that god awfull song Hey Baby by DJ something (otis??) was out and all we heard on a night was oh ah - we still despise that song to this day! Since then one of the girls who was with us that trip staying a little further up the hill the other month and said the noise is now louder and goes on later - I really hope its not so bad.
Also has anyone ever requested a cot on arrival at the arizona (or anywhere else for that matter) and a) was it there and b) what condition was it in?

Hello!
There is a " hideous" noise that seems to " bounce off " the main shopping centre and then " ricocheting " into all of your bedroom windows in the surrounding complexes.(The worst complex for "receiving " this " horrendous noise" is the " Puerto Feliz "
Due to the noise levels i have had " double glazed balcony doors" installed (which now give me " total silence" and open as " smooth as butter melting in my mouth" ......) Now as i don't go to bed until 02.30 most nights (don't be nosey viewers....) these new " doors of delight" have given me a new lease of life........

there may be a few bad ones but there are a lot of good ones, i dont bother taking any notice of reviews as some people seem highly critical over the slightest thing. if you have been before you have nothing to worry about:thumb: if you dont fancy going i will go in your place:) :have-fun:
