Hi Jay Kay
This is my first post but just wanted to give you a bit of an update on this. The tapas bar you mention is called Capaco and I would just like to take this opportunity to receommend it to EVERYONE who reads this post. I'm sure you'll agree the place has a great atmopsphere and the food is totally outstanding - real tapas and all local produce. For anyone who hasn't been, Capaco is a tiny little place in the Edificio San Fernando building. As Jay Kay says, it's just opposite the Centro Commercial, any taxi driver will know it. The guy who owns it is called Juan (not Greek but Canarian but he could pass for being Greek!) and Oliver is usually behind the bar. I'm a regular any time I'm on the island, my name's on the wall, etc! I'm heading back in September.
Capaco hasn't moved, it's still open but Juan opened a new restaurant a couple of years ago, just down Avenida De Tirajana from Capaco on Avenida de Gran Canaria. It's called Tango and has the same atmosphere and food are equally exceptional. Tango, however is only open from mid-September but try both if you get the chance.
They now have a website which has info and directions on both places. I really couldn't pick a favourite. Both offer the best in real Spanish tapas and live music with a warm, friendly atmosphere. www.tapasbarcapacotango.com (http://www.tapasbarcapacotango.com/). I have personally fallen out of both in the early hours after enjoying their hospitality, now I can call it research! :banghead:
Give either, or both a try. You won't be disappointed. :have-fun:
