Hi everyone, this is my first post.
Me and my girlfriend have booked into this hotel in May. We are both 21. just wandering what it is like, if anyone has stayed there or got pictures??
I was also hoping for some recommendations on nice places to eat and drink and things to do during the day?? ie beaches to go to etc...
Thanks in advance

Hi, stayed in the Colina Mar a few years back and thought it was a good choice of accomodation, nice views from most rooms, clean, squash court, restaraunt, and a shop on site with entertainment at night...
The most obvious beaches are Amadores or Peurto Rico beach, both probably same distance from Colina Mar as it is situated up on the top just a very short stroll from the Europa Centre... there are some good bars and places to eat in there but depends what you like really, my opinion on a good place may not be somebody elses, best thing to do is read reviews and when your there do as you do.......
Comercial Centre is a lot more livelier and bars and eateres are plentiful
For a more relaxed and chilled atmosphere head at nite either down to amadores beach or opposite way to the marina and agua perra areas, much more soothing in those two i think.....
Hope this helps a little

Hi joey
We have stayed at the Colina Mar lots of times. One of our favourites.
Totally agree with everything stu says above. Have a look at the photos on rab c's site
www.rab.c.fotopic.net (http://www.rab.c.fotopic.net) (if i have got this wrong you will find the correct line throughout the forum)
You will find Colina Mar pics there. There are two pools at CM. The big one with music on all day and entertainment as well. Then there is the quiet pool. No children allowed and no music playing. Prefer the big pool myself as there is always something going on to keep you from getting bored sunbathing - as if!!!!
Hoping to go back in May ourselves. :have-fun:

I also stayed at the Colinamar several years ago.
One tip, try to get a high floor apartment, although there is a lift if its full
the steps can be a killer.

other half stayed at colina mar a few years ago and said it was very nice with good views.
close to europa centre for bars/restaurants.
or walk down to c.c. and get taxi back as it is a hell of a walk back up the hill.
with being up there both pr and amadores beaches are both just as close.

I prefer Amadores Beach as there are no boats to dirty the water

Hi Joe.
I stopped at the Colina Mar last year with my girlfriend my son and another couple. It was fantastic mate. There is plenty to do during the day with the reps providing activities around the pool ranging from water dodgeball and volleyball to pool competitions with jugs of sangria/lager as prizes. They were called Kim and Mel B. Very friendly and it was a very good atmosphere.
You have the Europa centre just five mins walk which has a bit of choice concerning food and has a few liveliesh bars such as Yates, Extreemz and Turbos which all provide fun quizzes with shots awarded!
Other to that you have the Commercial centre at the bottom which is like a bigger version of the Europa centre with a lot more choice of places to eat and drink. The commercial centre is a lot busier and bustlier than the Europa and you will get pestered none stop to et in various places! (Just warning you in advance!)
The commercial centre is a lot better if you're planning a big night out drinking, clubbing etc and costs about 3 euros in a taxi from the taxi rank outside Europa. Drinks are very expensive in the clubs, up to 7 euros per drink (about 4 quid) but if you let one of their reps take you in you usually get in for free and get a free drink!
You are situated right at the top of the hill with some fantastic views and I preferred being up there out of the way as you can get all your amenities from the Europa Centre.
Hope you have a great holiday.
Regards
Liam

Hi holingdays,
we went to PR Christmas 2004 and in early January 2006. You can expect some nice days (maybe 3 or 4 out of 7 sunny) but it will be warm enough for shorts and T shirts every day. I would say to take a jacket or jumper for the evenings as it can get a little cooler. The resort is very busy as this is peak season, mainly Brits and Scandinavians but a great atmosphere. The majority of the action is in the two centres, the Europa and the Commercial. The Commercial is busier, with more choice but lots of pressure to go into the bars/restaurants and lots of people selling 'bling'. The lower level is shops with some restuarants, the upper level is bars and restaurants. You will have a great time!! You must try the Las Vegas Restaurant in the CC, half way along on the upper tier on the left. Also see other posts for peoples favourite bars and restaurants, I think if you go by recomendation you can't go far wrong. Enjoy PR and if you haven't booked transfers I can recommend Owens. Enjoy PR!!! :D

Hi, the first hotel i ever stayed in was the Colina Mar 20yrs ago and it was just the Best. Had a fantastic time there for 2weeks,have been going back twice a year ever since. Stayed in different apartments and hotels and generally they are all as good.
The climate is so warm over there even in Dec,Jan,Feb but the evenings do get a bit chilly so take a lightweight jacket or casual top for the nightimes.
You must try the Restaurant of Gran Canaria its on the promenade opposite the spar, usually in the daytime theres lots of timeshare touts but if your reasonable with them they soon leave you alone, I have made lots of friends in the restaurant they are all very friendly.
Hope you have a great time the only downfall is if you have a drink in the evening in the town get a taxi back !!!!!bit of a walk to say the least.have fun,
kind regards, Claire :D

Do all apartments in the El Greco have views, In the brochure i have, there is a wall as the apartment view, or do i have to request it? Also do you have the number of a reliable taxi service? That are cheap? I would be looking for a Taxi to the El Berriel Airport near Puerto Rico?#

have you got the right Puerto Rico. The airport for gran canaria is gando and puerto rico is in the south of the island where El greco apartments are. Please check you are flying to the right place.
For a taxi - contact owen - click on gran canaria at the top of this page and you'll find that he runs a taxi service from the airport - very reasonable and reliable

karen
13th June 2006, 09:07 PM
Ive stayed in the Colina Mar lots of times now and cant say I have noticed anything unsafe about the balconies. They are the same as all the rest.
You will find that the majority of apartments in Puerto Rico are built into the rock face and therefore there are drops all around them.
Colina Mar and Scorpio are at the very top of the hill so obvious drops but all the way down to the bottom of the valley you will have steep drops.
Keep your eye on the kids like you would do at home and they will be fine.
The Colina Mar have a kids club where they entertain the kids at the pool which is safe and down in the club room. There are railings round the pool and down beside the club room.

in mine and my wifes opinion block 433 -440 should be ok never stayed in these ones , we have stayed in block 417-432 which we noisy with kids beside the squash courts, but when we were out in feb they were using the squash courts for storage, 401-416 are ok 401 being the farest away and it is the quietest which is the one we stayed in twice . 416 is next to the lifts and opposite the shop. the enterance to the apartments and reception are on the 5th floor. 101-116 and 201-216 are above the bar . 117-124 217-224 are above the restaurant which is the bar through the day , if you want a pool view 425-432 . if you have a fax machine we could send you a map of all the apartments. hope this helps.

Hello one and all, this is a short review of the el geco aparthotel, and a little bit on first choice. The el greco has a nice reception, with all the things you need and the rooms were clean and tidy, with microwave, kettle and iron ect. The maid come and cleaned most days. The pools were cleaned each day and the poolside bar was ok. I would recomened the el greco because of its location the standard of the rooms and the the place genrally.
As for first choice, they stuck us on a crappy 757, and as with most of these companys they expect you to pay for headphones ect. The rep was avalible if needed but i did not take to kindly to being sold sun creme and invited to go look at the time share at anfi, and the rep wanted us to put him down as excellent on the happy sheet so he could get a better gig in mexico, dream on pal.
But overall we had a good hol.

They are situated right at the top of the mountain, looking up on the left, dont know what they are like now but then were very good, entertainment every night, clean and tidy. They have a courtesy bus up and down to the centre every few hours or if you are brave enough take the steps............. have a great time,

Hi,
Not much I can add to the last couple of reviews except to say how fantastic the entertainment is at the CM compared to other hotels in PR.The only downside I would say is that there are lots of steps and high drops so you have to be careful if you take children. Also the balconies are a bit on the small side but all things considered you will have a great time at the Colina Mar.Another good thing is that you can keep your room on until 9pm if you have a late flight home for approx. 30 euros.Lastly go to the barbeque on a Tuesday night it is well woth the money.

You will have a great time at the Colina Mar. Dont think there is still a courtesy bus though. These apartments are a favourite of ours.
Always something going on around the pool. The kids are kept entertained from around 11am til whenever. Always lots of laughs at the poolside.
There is a quiet pool strictly for adults and no music allowed.
Im sure you will have a great time.

hi murph
we always stay at the colina mar, woz last there in may this year... it has had a refurb, gr8 entertainment for the kids day & night.
europa centre 2mins away, no courtesy bus any more but taxis real cheap, jst a couple of euros to the commercial below.
If however u dnt av kids i,d reccommend an apartment by the quieter pool, still gr8 views but more peaceful especially if u like a siesta in the afternoon b4 ur night out. What the C.M lacks in other departments, which is not much if anything, the views certainly make up for it, they r stunning and lovely 2 wake up 2 in the mornings sat on ur balcony with a coffee. enjoy & im sure u will return 2 this hotel.

Hi all
Went to PR last year had a great time. Two questions though.
I flew with my travel last year but stayed in a friends timeshare. I have looked at thier holiday package and am wondering if booking with them is a good idea? I like the look of the Colina mar apartments and want to know if they are any good? Just would like you opinions on both matters to see if my travel are worth booking with. I got the impression that they dealt in timeshares where i really only want a weeks holiday.

The timeshare touts try to sell their product for a short while following the arrival of the package tours each week just outside the entrance to Colina Mar. While they may not have any connection with Colina Mar, I would be surprised if they can operate just outside their entrance without permission as they leave their display unit in position when they are not present.
Never stayed there, but it always appear well maintained. Hope you have a pleasant stay there.

Hi
Stayed in the Colina Mar on many occasions. Basic apartments like most. You get what you pay for.
A large pool with kiddies pool attached and then there is the quiet pool. No music allowed and no kids allowed.
Entertainment round the pool every day and kids club. Entertainment every night in the bar which opens very late.
Excellent views and handy for the Europa Centre.

Hi,
When we were at the Colina Mar in 2003 and 2004 we had on average 20 cockroaches in the apartment during the 14 days we were there. Also the were able to fly which made it all the harder to catch them.My advise is to spray the RAID bottle everywhere and you will have no problems.

Hi All,
I've booked to stay here from the 12/04 for 7nights. I've read a number of reviews and they all seem favourable.
My only concern is how noisy is the main pool is during the day with the entertainment that's on?
We normally stay at the Palmeramar which is very quiet during the day and i'm not adverse to a little light entertainment - but can anyone tell me if the entertainment is too in your face?
Cheers,
Keano

You will find that there are two pools and one has noise and entertainment and the other one does'nt.We were there last year and used both :thumb:

I was there a few years ago now but if I remember correctly there is actually a kids pool combined with the quiet pool.We as a family spent half the time here and half at the other pool.

Hi there,
I stayed in the colina mar in may last year. I loved them. Also just back from puerto rico and went to the pool most days at the colina mar. There is always something going on at the poolside, fashion show, water polo, the big inflatable dragon, they even have a paella demonstration. There is also music on at the pool, so its great for chilling out, and you never get bored. If you want to totally chill go to the other pool on site as it's dead quiet...
There is a supermarket on site too, where you can get your paper in the morning. The apartments are basic and clean, which is all you need really, and the staff are friendly..
Plenty of places in the europa to eat and drink, just delepnd what you like really... Being just back from there (again), we loved CAFE MAMBO, was a great laugh with the TERRY BULL SHOW, also PICKWICKS is great to start your night off, really friendly and relaxed atmoshphere.. MARY D'S does fishbowls of cocktails and has shows on most nights too...
For breakfast, I have to say we ended up in FLICKS most days and in my opinion is the best brekkie for a hangover, proper sausage bacon beans etc and tetley tea in a mug....mmmm...yum.....the also do fantastic sunday roasts.....
There really is loads of place and best thing to do is look on all the review sites and decide for yourself..... The Commerial Center is only 3 euros in a taxi from the Europa, and is a lot more livelier and great for shopping...
Have fun...j.x

Hey Big Gaz,
Yeah well i think so, as one of the lifts was out of order, the door was off etc and seemed to be some work being done on it, but one of them still working, although i have to say, i got out of it on the way up from the pool, as it was sounding well dodgy...haha......Didn't fancy being stuck in it in the heat.....
The stairs aren't that bad, or so i tell myself, its good for the muscles.....well thats what i tell myself...

hi jojo
although I said I waited 5 minutes that may be slightly exagerated but def over 3minutes. but at the time of day it was the lift could have been getting cleaned or was being used lower level by guests heading to the pool at the bottom.
the lift that is working looks like it has been renewed the other one has been stripped of all wiring. your best bet is to request a room at the top level (shop) then you only have the steep ramps to negotiate when going out at nights. and only need the lift to go down to the pool.
heres some pics below. it may be that a lot of the ongoing works may be completed when you get there but!! one thing for sure they will have carved up another section somewhere. it did not spoil our jollies and I doubt if it will spoil yours

Hi
Got back from PR on the 28th May. Stayed at the Colina Mar. The 2nd lift is brand new and was being installed while I was there. It still wasn't working when I left which is why the other lift is slow, it's doing twice the work.
The photo Rab took of the roadworks outside the hotel is looking away from the Europa centre and the the path beteen the hotel and the centre is relatively OK (the new red tiles have beeen laid).
There has been some work on the traffic island at the end of the centre and the access to the steps above MaryD's was a bit dodgy but your biggest problem is that the path down towards the Riosol and the access ramp into the centre is still the old white tiles and has some broken areas which might cause a few problems.
Take care
Hope this helps

Food was the worst ive ever seen the bacon must have been recycled all week by the looks of it and the smell from the hotel by the poolside at night was amazing. The only people that kept us going were mal and Ulrika they sorted out the entertainment .The rep bill didnt want to know much neither just kept saying what do you want me to do ....Watch out for a woman called minna no help at all just takes your money for the barbi and never tells you it cheaper for halfboard.HAS THE WORST FALSE SMILE IVE EVER SEEN.

It is such a shame that you had such a bad time at the Colina Mar. I have stayed here several times and have found all the hotel staff second to none. Minna has looked after us for the past three years and bill for two years with no complaints. Mal and ulrika are new to the complex and were doing great when we left. Hoping to return in september. I suggest you get hold of the company that runs this complex to complain and of course your tour operator.

Just back from a weeks stay in the Colina Mar... I did stay there 2 years ago, and have to admit, they have improved the rooms etc, and i really enjoyed my stay...
The pools were heated (bonus), the room had a kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave, coffee maker 2 plate hob which was another bonus.. The rooms were cleaned every other day and same again with towels..
We even had a bottle of water left in the fridge for us, which was nice... Also had a bottle of wine and chocolates from Minna (pr lady), as i emailed her before i went out, asking her for a few requirements..... which i thought was sweet of her...
I even got a voucher on my check out, which entitles me to free breakfast if i go back this summer or winter....
I we didnt have one single crunchie beastie in our room...(thank god)
So all in all, will defo be going back again.... I know there have been mixed reports about these apartments.. but have to say, we all really enjoyed our stay and probally going back to them again in May...

I didn't do half board, but the people i talked to, said it was fine.. i did have a few snacks at the pool bar, where the restaurant is, and the snacks were nice.. they do a BBQ night, which is normally 10 euros, twice a week, but i think that if you are half board, you get it a little cheaper, and it was really nice...
At night time, i have to say it was cold, but not freezing like here. i packed a couple of cardis and was glad that i did.. and wore jeans most nights... also took cosy pyjamas with me, which i was glad of.
the weather for the week was good, mostly sunny, with a few mornings or afternoons overcast, but always turned out good.
Hope you have a fab time... I love these apartments and have been to them a few times...

wee tip take 5 wedges with you 4 for the castor bed and one for the balcony doors......................the reason the balcony is so you dont go shooting out on your bed and crack the nice poolside tiles below the door will be wedged shut to prevent an illegal exit lol

Had a really good time at the Colina Mar staying in room 426
Basic but clean and Minna left us with a welcome pack (water, wine, and some really nice chocolates) which was a nice touch. We tried the half board for just one day, breakfast wasn’t the best but the evening meal seemed to make it worth while. The guy that ran the small pool bar was fantastic and had a good laugh with us all week. On our last day we were asked to have a go at the bingo, wife won 86 euros on her first and last attempt. Didn’t go down very well as we had only just walked down for a drink at the pool bar. LOL
I’ll try and post a picture of the 4th bed and yes it is like sleeping on a big skate board. lol
PS. Sorry if any of you were in the next room to us or sat near us in a bar somewhere as all 4 of us had a really bad bout of flatulence all week. Don’t know why or where it came from, unless it was the local beer of which we did drink a lot of this time. lol :blush::blush::blush:

More than likely personal preference. Possibly because it's close to reception and shop? But since the invention of the lift (elevator) it's not a major problem :D

hi,
Main reason i recommended the 4th floor, was, yes, because close to the shop, only one down from reception, and when you get in from the pubs at silly oclock, you only have to stagger down one fight of steps to your room... instead of waiting for the lift (which makes me queezy after a skinful)...haha

4th floor was perfect for us as we don't spend that much time around the hotels in PR. We spend most of our time out and about walking so a room nearest to the road was ok for us.

It depends how much travelling you'll do. if you prefer to stay around PR and only venture to the water park - or Palmitos - then just hire a car for the day or two. Taxi the rest of the time. Your littlest one wont be too impressed with walking far or you pushing the pushchair all the way up a hill

Ahh thanks Mary . :)
We like to hang around the pool quite alot, and the odd night at the europa. She will only be 22 mths, so maybe a few taxi's here and there, and hire a car for the days i want out.
Do i have to bring anything other than my driving licence. The paper one, (credit card style) or both.
Thanks in advance :)
