san augustin to me is about the quietest holiday location you will find in gran canaria and I really mean quiet but then its only a 5minute taxi ride from pdi
never stayed in the rocas rojas but have seen them they sit on a fairly steep location with lots of steps around them and two or three swimming pools if quietness and relaxation is what you want then this is def the place to stay the gocarting track is not far away you have probably seen that on the bus at some stage on your travels
a small shopping centre across the road from the rocas and an underpass as you come out to reach the small beach.

Hi just to let you know its a great relaxing place not so many kids but also very safe for you if you have a family with kids very private not that many steps just slopes lol , we lived there for 3 years and loved it all the family stayed there they all loved it , many swedish residents in the winter but they all leave in april back home for summer so you may find you never run out of beds and i would recomend it to anyone , yes it will cost 4 euro in taxi into playa and 5 euro in taxi if you want to book a great night out in the black and red casino show meloneras great night out ,(you can book in reception of rocas rojas) , your near to shops and you can request a low level bungalow but then you dont get the great view. ok hope this helps you out have fun and dont forget a must night out GRAN CASINO MELONERAS VEGAS LEGENDS DINNER SHOW BOX OFFICE 600 51 41 02 BOOK NOW LOL

I haven't stayed at Rocas Rojas, so I can't offer an opinion on what they are like to stay in, but I thought I would tell you about something has happened on my last two visits to Gran Canaria, involving Rocas Rojas.

We were on night flights, both last May and September, arriving at LPA in the early hours of the morning. When we were dropping people off at their hotels, it was about 1.30am, and Rocas Rojas was locked, and there were no members of staff around to book anyone in.

The reps, (on both occassions) had to phone someone, and we all had to wait about half an hour until a very tired member of Rocas Rojas staff arrived to let them in !!

I don't know if this is a very regular occurance, or it was just a coincidence that it happened on both my visits last year, but I've never known any accommodations not have have anyone there to greet their guests before.

Thanks for the info,
But oh no!! steep location, stairs, slopes!!!! what have i done!!lol.:banghead:
least wont feel guilty missing the gym for a couple of weeks then if having to endure a climb or two!

Hopefully if no delays at Airport we arrive early evening so wont encounter a lock out.

Quiet is good, as is not a lot of kids, would rather it not on door step and can go into PDI with little cost for taxis, not sure if teenage son will be saying the same!! but tough he aint paying!!lol.x

hello there! I was one of the people who was waiting for hotel representative to greet us! visited in may 2005. This was the only complaint I have!
It is a nice quiet resort and if you do want somewhere livelier then a short taxi ride will take you into playa del ingles- not for me though far too busy and too touristy!
The apartments are set on a hill but if you want to be moved your request will be dealt with. We were at the very top and enjoyed the wonderful views especially at night!
I was staying in a one bed apartment with my two children and found this far too small. My friends, however, were staying in 2 bed, basic but were well equipped for self catering and quite spacious with maid service every day except sunday.
Booked again for this May but for 2 bed apartment and really looking forward to returning.
Hope this helps! and I'm sure you will enjoy your stay!

Thanks for that information,
Good to hear from some one that has actualy been to these Apartments and happy to return again, that in itself looks promising.

We have booked a 2 Bedroom Apartment, so hopefully will be happy enough with them.

Is there Resturaunts and any Bars near? know not to expect busy, Just want the sun, sea, WINE and to go brain dead for a couple of weeks!! Lol..cant wait!x:banana:

We haven't stayed in Rocas Rojas, but in the Gloria Place, right adjacent. There is a nice resturaunt in the shopping center next to the hospital, right on the edge of Rocas. In San Agustin CC we like Tony's, and our other favorite is Loopies between San Agustin CC and Melia Tamarindos. There is a resturaunt at the entrance to Rocas, but we havent' tried it, it always looks empty. All are a walk, but it is a very quiet area, and as said in many previous notes, primarily Scandinavian area.

Can give you a better update in a month after we return from San Agustin.

There is one or two car hire places at the San Agustine Center. I don't know how good either one is, we just take the taxi. It is quite a walk to PDI, and only 5 Euro to PDI.

I think there are busses, have seen several, but never use them as we don't go to PDI that often, not the party type.

You can catch the bus from San Augustine to P.D.I. however you'll have to walk to the main road (GC 500) to do so. Walking is a very pleasant stroll along the coastal walkway (paseo costa canaria). Walk down to the seafront and facing the sea walk to your right, as you walk along Las Burras beach you'll come across a boardwalk (nice fresh fruit juice bar there) carry on for about 10/15 mins where you'll encounter the steps up to the Tropical centre at the beginning of P.D.I. (the main bus terminus is here). You can carry on along the paseo right across P.D.I. but there are more steps to climb both up and down. It's best to pick up a free map which your hotel reception should have to get your bearings!

Hiya,
Im just wondering if any body has been to these Apartments since my last post.

Read a review on real holidays that they were dirty, pool was not clean, staff were rude and unhelpful, pool is open to the locals and paying guests are prohibited from using it when they do...

I know it was only one couples opinion but they also state many complained and requested a change of Apartments along with written complaints to tour Reps!!!

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

(am getting Scared noo)!!!!!

Hiya I stayed in this accomadation about five years ago.The apartment we were put in was at the very top and when we complained that one of the group was disabled they were brilliant and moved us straight away. The staff were very friendly. It was really quiet and relaxing. There are a few slopes but it depends on where you are.The main CC was about a 15 minute walk away but it was just as easy to go out and about in the taxi's or if you want try the local buses. :banghead:

we were at these Apartments in Sep 07.
Apartment was near the bottom so not much up hill climbing.

The pool area could have done with more sunbeds and got annoyed when towels were left on them for hours without anyone actualy using them.
I eventualy became just as rude and done the early morning bed raid!!

Staff were very pleasant and helpful, on arrrival we were escorted by mini bus to the Apartment and assisted with luggage.

The Restuarant run by Rocas was exellent, the Main C.C didnt have much to offer in way of Restuarants, pubs or entertainment and most places seemed to be closed, however P.I was 5 mins away by Taxi for a haven of shops, bars and nightlife.

Apartment was basic but clean, great views, very quiet and relaxing.
great place to chill but hoping to be back in P.R this year.

HI. Stopped here July 2004. We too were one of the ones that got to the apartments very late at night and had to wait. Then they get a minibus to take you up to the apartment.
When we got there at 1.30am in the shade at reception it was 42 degrees. Apparently they were having a Kalema ,(dont know if thats spelt right - sorry) Hot weather coming over from africa. The apartment was at the top and it was boiling! No water left in the apartment for you and we were drinking un frozen ice pops that we bought with us! It was a nightmare - only being honest.
Tha apartment was VERY basic but clean but we asked to be moved as my hubby had just had op on his knee. They moved us next day slightly further down. This apartment was marginally better equppied and not as 70's looking - again very clean. The tv also was a coin operated one.
The pool loungers were taken every day - so we took the if you cant beat them join them - and went out early to put towels on beds. The pool was big but got a lot of leaves in the shallower end from the trees.
It was surprisingly quiet on the first week and half and then the on slaught came at weekends - with danish and spanish over taking the pool areas.
It was not a bad walk to the centre - again this was quiet then and not long to pdi walking along the coast.
Netto at the bottom of the apartments - quite cheap and a hospital - think that was for the injuries you got climbing the steps!!!!!
Restaraunt in the rocas was very nice - we ate there afew times.
Day 2 may i had was 52 degrees on the thermometer out side the apartment on the way to the welcome meeting - it was a killer!
We paid for a late room on the last day and we were put into a private apartment which was beautiful. Our friends too - had a 2 bed apartment all through the holiday which was lovely and quite low down.
On the whole the holiday was very relaxing and quiet - but now my son is 12 it would be toooooooooooo quiet. and my hubby does like a pint round the pool at dinner time! Yes there wasnt a pool bar.
I know it was a few years ago we stayed here but felt it important to air my views. we have somephotos of the place if any one wants to see them - not sure how many and what off - will have to route through.

I stayed here several years ago and it was really quiet. It is fun with the slopes and few steps soooo could'nt do it now lol. The shopping centre was about ten minutes walk away. It is quite near the main road as in noise but not to intrusive.I found it to quiet for me but would reccommend it for a chill hol.Hope you have a good holibags
