My wife & I are thinking of going to Gran Canaria in October for some autumn sun but don't know where to stay, not necessarily PDI. We are looking for somewhere where we don't get mobbed by timeshare reps, Club 18-30 parties & full English breakfasts. We are looking for somewhere with good beaches, cafes & decent restaurants but where we can find a few night clubs if needed.
I don't know if this is asking too much but any help will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Rue

i dont know your age group but puerto mogan seems to fit the bill and if you want night clubs theyare a taxi ride away at one of the other resorts.

I always go to Puerto Rico, I have never been to pdi. There are timeshare reps there who can be a nuisance, :veryangry: but I have got to know a few of them, so well that they asked me to work with them, because I am always there, it's my second home lol. :packed: They are a friendly bunch :thumb: who just want to earn a few euros.
Amadores is a nice beach, its man made. It has some good restaurants as does pr which also has some good restaurants, pubs and two nightclubs.
There probably won't be many 18-30s as it is in October.

My recommendation based on your needs would be Maspalomas.Though it is much quieter than PDI I think you have the best of both worlds staying there as it is peaceful but if you fancy lots of bars and clubs PDI is only a 5 min taxi ride. You have Playa de Masapalomas and the lovely promenade leading up from the lighthouse which has loads of lovely restaurants and a few nice new bars overlooking the ocean. You dont get particularly hassled by timeshare people, nor do you get the chav 'egg and chips' element that - in my opinion - ruins PDI.
Faro 2 shopping centre there also has good bars and restaurants.
Hope you have a good time wherever you choose....:have-fun:

I agree with Lucy think maspalomas would be your best bet, quiet and peaceful with the bars and clubs a short taxi ride away, we have been going there 3-4 times a year over the last 8 years.
What you want self catering or hotel?

If I were you I would try Maspalomas. No apartments as such but lots of bungalows. Buses into Playa or to the beach, or a taxi would be about £2.00. Much quieter that Playa and very flat unklike Puerto Rico.

Thanks everyone. I now have a better idea of where to go & now think the decision is between Maspalomas & Puerto Rico! Any opinions on accomodation? We are looking for an appartment or bungalow as close to the beach as possible.
Thanks,
Rue
