I would like to share a very forgettable experience when visiting the lovely
little town of Arguineguin. We found this restuarant on the seafront
headland, it is one of a number which have splendid views of the port and
sea.

The address is LOS PESCAITOS Puesta D. Sol, nif b42748478, GC.

Date of visit: 20th JANUARY 2006.

The restaurant looks ok and is clean and tidy with seating inside and a lot
outside.
The service is very mediocre with the elderly waiter forgetting the order
for our 2 year old completely. Our order which was from the daily specials
menu was for 2 sole fillets we received quite quickly - 2 very small whole
fish which tasted as though they had been cooked in old fat and they were
barely eatable. The child's meal, which cost the same as the adult meals
arrived about 20 minutes after ours and it consisted of some unidentifiable
fried objects described as mummies ninos plato. These were fat soaked potato
with a small quantity of fish mashed in. Our child could not eat them and we
asked for this dish to be removed from our bill, which was refused.

The Manager was unwilling to make any concessions to make up for this wait
and then poor food and we left telling him we would write a review and
recommend to our friends that they do not waste a visit to this restaurant
when there are so many very good ones in the near vicinity.

The cost was not high although children's meals are generally a very good
deal in nicer restaurants in this town and generally in Gran Canaria. This
was without doubt the worst eating experience we had in 10 days in this
lovely island.

PS: The cafe by the port (if waiting to catch the ferry)is clean friendly and good value.

all teh fishermenn and locals use it and is worth the walk round , i also found the cost of the ones on the headland expensive compared to others in the town or towards patalvaca maybe its because of the huge german hotel nearby

i have also eaten in this place and agree terrible service and food not up to scratch. but as always you pay for what you get.you are right about the prices in the german and norsk restraunts in arguinrguin being a bit over the odds but the food is 1st class.and they seem to like a few brits popping in now and again.if i could recommend some .which have probably been mentioned on the forum before

Q steak bar ancora centre norsk. top food and menu www.q-steakhouse.com (http://www.q-steakhouse.com)
on the head land with the warstiener signs german run expensive but you will be talking about it for days (look out for the large mad german chef)
palicio chino on the front cheap but a1 food and service

:boozy: :packed: five weeks 1 day to jolly.s in gc

It is as important (maybe more important) to know the bad restaurants as the good restaurants. Thank you for your lengthy review

Interesting comments folks! i have never tried this restaurant although i know exactly where it is.I am not a huge" fish person"
but it's amazing how many tourists aproach me in the street asking me where this restaurant is? either i look like i have lived here for years or maybe it's because i look like an "ageing rock star" who knows? but isn't this also in the international guide of restaurants???
whilst we are on the subject of restaurants i found an interesting one a while back,go out of Arguineguin and take the old coastal road and turn left at El Pajar.Continue along the road for about 15 minutes and it is on the left.I think it was called "Miguels" and it is a wooden lodge style bar.As i arrived i was greeted my a massive alsation dog sniffing my "hows your fathers"viewers:nodding: , which made me feel a bit nervous. But then you take a seat on a wooden tree stump and wooden table. The food is great, mainly tapas but great place for a gathering of "friends" and chatting the afternoon or evening away.
Fond memories(especialy the dog!)

We ate in the cafe by the port when we got off the boat from Puerto De Mogan. The fish was excellent and it was good to see so many Canarios eating there. The prawns in Garlic were deeeeeelicious!!! lol

OMG I have garlic prawn withdrawal symptons.

I need a recipe from one of the restaurants so that I can make them at home.

Have looked on net but no luck. I know I should have asked whilst there but it didn't occur at the time.

I have used this recipe for garlic prawns at home, sometimes using herbs like parsely instead of th chilli. Check it out:

Have to agree with Marcus, that place is great but maybe more like 5-10 minutes from El Pajar. My partner and I had a lovely leisurely boozy lunch there during a hot walk back from Arguineguin to Anfi. Have a photo somewhere that I'll try to dig out. Failing that, I'll be back there in a month's time!
