We are hoping to relocate to Gran Canaria later this year and would like to know the availability of long term rental properties in the PDI or Maspalomas areas. Can anyone advise whether there is greater availability of furnished or unfurnished accommodation and approximate costs for a 2 bed property.
Thank you for any information.

Unfortunately, furnished accomm is more common in the south. Quality is also very low. It took us 3 months of hard labour to find a suitable property, further north. Price varies considerably. Non-spanish speaking tourists will be overcharged. I have only come across one professional agency, but thay have very little choice. Rental contracts provided by agencies are appalling, so be prepared to negotiate and walk away. Don't pay more than 600 euros for 2 or 3 bedrooms. Away from the tourist south, pay max 450 for 3 bedrooms. It all depends on square metres!! Ask, if you want any more info.

we always recommend www.canary-property.com (http://www.canary-property.com). Julie and Sheena will help you find a property to rent or buy.
In the south a 2 bed place is around 750 , furnished. You will get more for your money further north but it depends on where you want to be.
If you go through an agent expect to pay a months deposit and a finders fee to the agent. If your spanish is up to scratch then look in La Provincia on a Sunday - loads of properties advertised in there.
Advertise or look in www.tipsandinfo.com (http://www.tipsandinfo.com) or pick up a copy whilst you are here
But just like the fairy story, expect to look at a few frogs before you meet your handsome prince or your dream home.

I dont think all the agencies treat tourists badly. Most I t have dealt with have been Ok. The Canarian way is different to ours and some things seem odd, but ask questions, and keep asking. Use a translation site on the web if you need it, that gives you a rough idea of the paperwork. If your stuck with something you dont understand, ask it here on the forum. Lots of members live on the island, or have done, or/and have bought rented here, mostly without problems. Most of them at least initially had little or no spanish. I will vouch for Julie and Sheena. they are greeat to deal with.

We would like to post a big thank you for your replies to our first post on this forum. It is very heartening to know there are many of you prepared to help and support us with our move to the island. We are currently following up your leads and will let you know of our progress. Any other advice anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Mary, 750 euros for 2 bed is not the norm in the south, apart from maybe Campo International. There are 2 and 3 beds regularly available for 600 in San Fernando. Go to El Tablero and similar costs 500. It is also important to note that rents have dropped in recent years, due to more competition. Most landlords will accept lower offers also.

Well sorry J1969 - those are the prices of the 2 bed duplexes on the same urbanization as our clinic. San Fernando is much cheaper and the prices are less if they are unfurnished. Depends what you want and where you need to be

Yes i agree with mary, she is correct. We have been keeping a very close eye on the rental market for 3 months now in the south, and marys prices are the norm. example is unfurnised 3 bed house by marys clinic 750 euros month, plus all bills. Another area, 3 bedroom house furnished 900euros month plus all bills, these are not luxury places, just the norm. Moving over end febuary, so with our homework, we now know not to expect anything cheap. if its cheap, its not cheerfull.
