Hi

We could really do with some inside help here.

We have two children of our own and two who visit us regularly (ages 7,9,12,14), we want to take a year out from life the universe and everything. We are thinking of the Canary Islands. We were wondering about the following issues:

Schooling

Housing - need three possibly four bedroomed house for a year - cant find any long term let agencies on the web

Proximity to airport for 2 older children to visit during the school holidays

Any thoughts would be useful

Are you thinking of the north or the south of Gc.
For housing - try www.canary-property.com (http://www.canary-property.com). Sheena can give you a start there.
Schooling - spanish or english - english schools will cost you about 4,000 euros per year per child for primary school age.
www.bs-gc.com (http://www.bs-gc.com) is the one our son goes to. They have a primary school in meloneras
Canterbury school is another international school with a primary school in the south. They have a website but i dont know it at the mo'.
Spanish school: I would think that isnt really an option for a year. Its very difficult to get the children in - paperwork etc apart from getting a place. Also, all lessons would be in spanish and although they'll pick up the language quickly, they might lose a year in education - but thats up to you.
Distance - airport is about half way down the island. We lived in Tafira, outside las Palmas, in the countryside - lovely area. It would take about 20 mins to the airport but we were near the motorway.
Now we live in Puerto Rico and we're about 40 mins away from the airport.

Hope that helps
