Hi,
we (hubby and I) are travelling to PR on the 28th this month for a week, and for the first time we are staying in the Puerto Azul ( we usually stay near the beach.) I have read some not so good reports about this accomadation and would be really grateful if you could give me any idea if they are as bad as some people have portrayed on their reviews..
thanks for your help and I love the site

Hi Mags, it's a good 3 years (I think) since we stated at Puerto Azul but we had a great time there. The one bedroom apartment was very spacious and although maybe in need of a little refresh in the decor department, it was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Our apartment was at pool level and our door literally opened to the pool area which was perfect. There is a bit of a maze to find your way around to some of the other apartments and some dodgy looking lifts but we faxed the hotel before we went and told them our daughter didn't like lifts so they put us at pool level (I think the room number began with a 5 but it was some time ago so I'd check that out). The pool bar does a good selection of food at very good prices and there's entertainment every night which is of a higher standard than we've found at other apartments in PR. You're a five minute walk (uphill) to the Europa Centre where you'll find plenty places to eat but take a taxi if you're going down the way as that's a lot further away although there are stairs just outside Puerto Azul which take you down to the harbour area - walking down them is fine but I wouldn't attempt the return journey on foot !
I'm sure you'll have a great time here. :)

Fee,
many many thanks for that, I am sure we will have a great time even if we were in a tent... But good to know. I have to say I am looking forward to trying the Europa centre for a change especially after all the good things I have read here about it.

We were offered the Puerto Azul last year because the place we we were staying was overbooked and they moved us to a dump called BALCON DE AMADORES .We had a look around Puerto Azul and decided to stay in the Balcon.. The view from the balcony at Puerto Azul was :censored:. I guess if youre lucky you may get a nice room. The place itself didn't look too bad, but the weather was bad and we were just p##### off with the thought of moving suitcases again ,Puerto Azul didn't look like it was worth the bother..But still if the sun is shining thats all we really need to have a good holiday. The Europa centre is far better than the commerical centre down hill. You'll not get the hassle you do there. Good luck i'm sure you'll love it:have-fun:

Hi - I stayed at Peurto Azul last year after Palmeramar overbooked and I had turned down the offer of Balcon de Amadores. I thought it was OK. Our room was spotless (if a bit dated). Views are mixed - ours looked down over Puerto Rico main beach... I have to say I wouldnt pay top whack for this in the height of summer but for a cheeky week in winter you can't beat it. The pool area is lovely and the food was nice there. I'd stay there again for a week. I too have read some reports where people have been asked for deposits etc - we we're never asked for anything like that.

Just thought I would let you know how our break went... well we were blessed with good weather (only one bad day). the Puerto Azul was as you had told me pretty basic in the decor stakes and yes you could get very lost as it is huge, we were lucky enough to be quite close to the pool. We did not have to pay any deposit on arrival. We were so impressed by the staff in this hotel, the best I have ever met so friendly and so very helpful, so much so that we would definitely return. The only thing I can think of moaning about is the pool was bloody freezing... But if you have kids and dont want to be ripped off for drinks and snack foods this is definitely a good family spot.
Bye for now

Mags - glad you enjoyed the Azul - I'm always wary of giving a good report to someone and then find they hated it !!

Only one position at the Azul to avoid is on the lower level facing the sea because the G.Palace was built right in front of it resulting in no seaview at all.

We got back from the Azul yesterday,we were also there in December,we will be there for easter,so as you see we love the Azul.We have been going to PR for many years and have found the Azul vgood, good pools one heated, good food and great staff. We always book direct and ask for a low room in block 2 which is one of the best views in PR.7 week and counting.

Completely agree.
We have stayed there with our 2 kids over New Year for the last few years and are booked to go again. Free cocktails and lots of shows over the festive period. Took another family of friends last year and they loved it too.
Great thing is that they allow you to booke any number of days and we then sneak a 9-10 night holiday..those extra days can make a big difference before going back to work..
We book a high floor apartment and the balcony size & views are fantastic...great for those sundowners after the beach..
I agree the staff are the best but the pool is freezing (great way to cure a "night before" head though..)
If booking direct like us, I'd recommend booking a car as the PA is right at the top of the hill (not good for walking like lots of other places in PR)...handy for Amadores beach too, which we always use..
We thought about moving "upmarket" this year but decided that we'd had such a great time and great value, that it wasn't worth it.
Enjoy...

I've got as really good deal for 14 of us to go to the Puerto azul for 2 weeks in april 2008 all inclusive. what I would like to know is what is the food like ? Also what floor should I be asking for? Normally we go to the lAltamar or the Riosol but next year in April the riosol is having some building work done hence why we have to loo elsewhere..
Any help is appreciated ..

Ask for high blocj 5 and you'll love it.
Poolside lunches are great value and pretty good, but we haven't done the restaurant bit, preferring to self cater half the time and go out to some of the very many great PR restaurants. Do your research and enjoy eating at some great ones if you can go Self Catering. We love Ciao Ciao after a day on Amadores beach and Cristina's for a quality meal in a traditional setting.

Hi
we (wife and i) are going to Puerto Azul on 1st dec 2007 all inclusive for 13 nights. I have just read on trip advisor that the pools are closed and wondered if anyone can confirm this and how long are they closed for?
I Have also read some very bad reviews of this hotel, so can anyone put my wifes mind at rest or should i be ready for a bad stay? Also what will the weather be like beginning of December?
Looking forward to some good replys if there is any
Cheers Pete

Just read the last 3 reviews on TA and can't see any mention of pool closures. If they are closed its likely to be for maintainance not for the long haul and your hol is still 3 months away.
I've stayed here in the past and thought it was OK. The reviews on TA are also good and dated September so pretty recent.

Stayed a few times and not had food in PA apart from poolside lunches which are fine.. main reason is that general feedback from others staying who have done HB or FB is that the food is mediocre and there is such great value choice in PR/ Amadores etc...having said that if there was a fantastic AI deal it may well be worth it!

I have spoken to people who have stayed in the Azul and they say the same that they wish they hadn't gone All inclusive as the food isn't great and they ended up eating else where.
