Big Bens is nice. Just around the corner fron the Jardin Del Sol apartments.

Dont eat in Mother Hubards which is a few doors down. It costs more that Big Bens and the food is cooked from frozen.

My girlfriend and i ate very night in the Gurapo (spelling). Its amazing...huge potions and although the waiters are all Spainish they are very friendly and can speak good english.
Try thier sirloin steak for 9.95 euros! Lovely!

The place is spotless too

The Guarapo is situated right next to the Jardin del Sol apartments

Hard Rock Cafe is nice too!

The very best English/British food in PDI is definately at the Britannia restaurant in the Gran Chaperrall...the food is lovely, and the staff are really friendly.

I promise you, once you have been there, you'll visit time and time again.

Definately have to check out Guarapo, Britannia and Hard Rock cafe.

Anyone know if any of these are near the Walhalla Apartments.

Thanks for the advice, cheers Paul

Hi

We love EL Duke - its situated under the Roque Nublo Hotel In PDI on the main Av Tirajana - There are also other bars and restaurants along this bit.

The food is fantstic, cheap and good portions - You can get from Spanish Dishes to Steak and Ale pie, good steak, anything - we like Britannia too but El Duke's is better quality English Food and not all served with Chips !!
Staff are local, very friendly, love the English and have owned the place for years and years

Other favorite is Chippy chippy just up the road from El Duke :boozy:

Hope this helps

The Hard Rock cafe is over priced for what you get...

Big Bens is open. I was there during my two weeks in Sept.

The Red Cow is a let down. My girlfriend and i asked for steak. I got steak but she got roast pork! The waiteress said it was steak, but it was plain to see and taste that it was roast prok. Seems the staff dont know thier **** from thier elbow!

I do try to eat "non-traditional" English food when in GC but I'm no food snob! When I fancy a roast or a curry I do like the food in The Red Cow and have always found them very freindly. Last year we ended stuck in PDI for Xmas as my father almost died two days before we were due to go home, he was in a medically induced coma for a week and once they brought ho round it was still weeks before we could go home. My mom and I ate their often as it was on the way back from the hospital and they always asked how he was and sent their love. On Xmas evening they made up some meals and even brought the food over to us.

Sorry to go off on a tangent there! All I was going to say was that I thought the food was delicious, value for money and the service great! :)

i agree with the above message. we have just returned from playa and ate in the red cow nearly every day. saw the comment about pork above and since i love pork the only disappointment was that the only pork dish was chops so how someone imagined a pork steak i don't know. obviously someone who doesnt know their meat too well. anyway, kids real fussy and one a veggie and managed to find great food for them and us. what a relief. made the holiday much better. staff were A1, couldnt fault them and they told us lots of lovely places to go such as mogan which is aboslutely beautiful and the submarine in the port. we're going again next year and hope to be in playa so can go back to the red cow. huge menu, cheap and gorgeous. Tried the hard rock one night as a treat but was disappointed by the prices and tasteless food but the kids were delighted to go because they could tell all their mates so maybe its worth the disappointment so they could brag

Have to say i was disapointed in Big Bens when i was over the other week.i thought the food was awful and was waiting for ages for it to arrive at my table(it was early afternoon).the friendly woman that runs the place told us it was a new chef on and i gave her the benefit of the doubt until my bill arrived with an extra few euro added on to my meal than the stated price!the Britannia was absolutely superb for breakfast.unfortunately i didnt get a chance to try the rest of their food.

Paul - have to say El Duke is a great restaurant - Benny Hills next door is good for plain food and also Paddy Murphys a couple of doors down the other way - all tese are under the Roque Noble Apts about 10 minute walk from the Walhalla - which we have stayed at four or five times.
Have a great time !

Yeah, Roque Nublo is an hotel it is on the Avenue De Tirajana and is one of the cheapest places to stay on a package deal to PDI with Thomas Cook at least. Not a bad hotel at all though the bedrooms can be a bit noisy.

Got back on Monday and can recommend El Duke. Only went the once for dinner but was really nice. Had brekkie at the Britannia every day. Went to Paddy Murphy for a drink one night and got talking to the entertainment guy who said the chef had been laid of due to lack of interest in meals but the owner was cooking from a limited menu. Got the feeling they weren't to confident in his cooking.

Went to the Red Cow twice and quality food as always, the roast dinners are superb, worth waiting that little bit longer for your food to get it cooked to perfection and plenty of it.

The service in the Red Cow was shocking!! it was so bad it was funny!

First time we went, an hour wait for food, no apology for it being late, after the food was put down they came back 2 mins later saying they had left some food off!
2 women next to us also waited an hour, people who had smaller dishes (eg fish and chips say) were getting served before people that had come in before them. The table behind us of 6-8 young people had their main meals in 3 stages! The first ones that got their meals had finished by the time the last people in there group got their meals!

The food was nice the first time we went and as it was just up the road from our apartment we gave them another chance thinking it couldnt get worse, but it did!!!!
Even longer wait the second time, despite the place being quieter! again no apology, also food was poor the second time, over cooked.

Would only recommend this place if you want a laugh at how bad the staff/service is!!

oh yeah almost forgot also the 2nd time we went we were sat down but then they forgot to give us menu's or ask us what we wanted to drink aswell, so we just got a waitress after 10mins asking what we wanted to eat! and we hadnt even seen the menu or had a drink!

It's funny how some people leave such bad reviews yet others, like me, have only good things to say. I've never had a bad meal there, they were always friendly and efficient and the food was great. I'm back in PDI in 5 weeks so I'll check it out and see if anything has changed since I was last there in January. :)

We went to the red cow partly coz of the good reviews on here, so was shocked when we went and had really bad service both times and poor food the 2nd time.
