Came across this advert http://www.paradiseliving.info/a_1040/apartment_a_1040_e.html Santa Claudia Apartments for sale. In the advert discription, referance is made to a new cable car down to Amadores beach from somewhere within 10 minutes walk of Europa Centre. Does anyone know anything about it or is this wishful thinking on the part of the developers?

Fantastic views. Great plan. Some of the older Gran Canarian guide books talk of planned cable car lifts in PR its self, but they came to nothing.

came across a cheap one in the north of tenerife.
was from top of cliff down to beach.
was more or less an old pallet that you sat on, the waiter from the restaurant would operate an old hoist to raise it to the top.
used to shout down to beach to see if you wanted to use it.
never saw anyone brave enough though, they all used to come back up the hundred steps or so.
would never get passed by the h&s executive.

I have made contact with someone representing the Santa Claudia apartments called Paradiseliving in Playa del Ingles and this formed part of their reply in connection with the cable car which I requested from them as I have an interest in the apartments.
" To answer your question about the cable car, it has been approved by all but the Canarian Government and they will be considering it soon. We heard that the probability is that it will definitely be given approval, the only setback it is having is that the taxi drivers have been protesting against it. I will, of course keep you informed of the progress on this suffice to say that when approval is met the price of all the properties up there will rise "
If the above proposal is progressing in the manner described, I suspect that every taxi driver is well aware of it. Trips to the top of the hill forms a large part of their income. Have you heard of any protests from them?

Seems the taxi drivers like to protest against everything.
People living next to the airport don't want another runway built in their front yards but they're getting one.
What about all the restaurant and bar owners and all these new half board and all-inclusive hotels opening up putting them out of business.
Dodgy electric shops giving the good ones a bad name is another.
I wonder why the taxi drivers always seem to get their way and nobody else does.
Looking forward to seing the cable car, I shall try and find out how true that is and let you know.

Seeing some of their reactions when someone picks up a fare when it should have been the other cabs could explain why they get there own way!!

I now have more information on the cable car. It will be constructed between Santa Claudia and Skorpio and will take you down into the town centre of Puerto Rico. Construction is due to start this year and it will take approximately 24 months.
Please let me know if you require any further details.

If the above is as described, isn't it surprising that the media has not published an article on it??????????
For those who are not familiar with the locations shown above:-
Santa Claudia Apartments (new apartments) are located near the top of the mountain almost directly above Carolina Apartments.
Scorpio Apartments are located next to the Colina Mar.

While holidaying in GC over the last few weeks, I decided to do a little snooping around in connection with a cable car/chair lift at Puerto Rico. I enquired from a German lady if she heard anything about it. Yes, she had read an article in a (canarian)german magazine about it. Her recollection was that the service would be between Amadoras Beach and the top of the hill.
Does anyone know what the purpose of the new building (almost complete) locate on the opposite side of the road to the large car park above the bridge at Amadoras????. It is unusual in that both ends are open (at present). I feel that a service such as this would breath new life into my favourite Europa Centre.
