Hi
Can anyone give us a bit more info on Teror? How long does it take to get there from the airport, how long does it take to drive down to the south? Whats the weather, area like? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanx

Teror is a great spot but a bit out of the way.Routes up to it are very wiggly and so take some time. Alot of spanish take granny up to Teror for their Sunday lunch.
I think it is easier to access via San Lorenzo which is the other side of Las Palmas - once you are down to Las Palmas then the connections are ok. May take 45 mins to get south - depending on which bit in the south. We live near Bandama and it takes us 40 mins to get to Puerto Rico - as long as there are no accidents and/or rain.
Property is quite cheap there but that is because its a bit of a bother to get south etc from there. We nearly bought almost a village outside teror - 3, 2 bedroomed chalets, bodega, cave and loads of land. But it wasnt all legal and a bit far out for us
Weather - because its up in the mountains and north the it'll be wet, humido (which means damp) but hot in the summer. We live slightly lower than Teror and we have problems with damp - leather shoes etc mouldy in the wardrobe, suits you havent worn for a while, mouldy spots on them. Feeling of cold, even though its 16 degrees.
If you do buy in the north - or up in the mountains, make sure there are dehumidifiers and central heating. In the south, you cant believe you'll need them but i assure you, you do. Since we have lived here we have bought 3 gas heaters, a portable aircon unit and dehumidifier and i wouldnt say we were wimps

Thanx Mary
Sounds a bit cold for me, sounds and looks lovely but I think we will have to focus on south a bit more. Don't really want to leave the cold to move to the cold!!!!!
Never mind the search continues!

Villages of fataga, Mogan, Salobre, Montana de la Data are nice apparently. Not the new areas but the original villages.
Go and have a look at Teror though

The climate is different to what you get in the south but at least you get seasons - which might sound strange but its something you may miss.
If you are going to do a place up - north in general is a good bet and alot more for your money and alot of opportunites. Its a lovely place to live and if i bought in the north i would take into account the need for air con and heating and dehumidifing - there are air con units that do all 3 and I would ensure the house has a working chimney.
I still advise renting to experience the whole island and understand its quirks

well a few years ago i spent a lot of time in "teror"(a long story viewers! not now! lol) as much as it is gorgeous up there in the hills i personaly think it would be a bad idea to purchase there.I have seen some run down properties in that area(not bargains either may i add!) it is very cold up there in the winter months and the roads can be dangerous(especially in the rain) i also think you would find it very lonely living there(unless you spoke fluent Spanish)It certainly wouldn't be my choice!!
Marcus( relaxed at home viewers...... )x

Thank you for your comments Marcus, that's what I wanted to hear to enable me to make a clear choice. We really don't want to move to the cold so south it is then.

the best info about the weather in Teror is here in ths day by day blog:
http://julsko.net/
If you read it from October 06 til April 07 it gives you a pretty good and scary insight in the weather at 600 meters.
we tried out the Costa Blancafor this winter and the last couple months were just awful. so in a couple weeks we are heading for GC
