Has anyone on here ever done the 1 day scuba dive with an instructor?

Yes my son did one last year with top diving in PR. He was very happy with the centre. Not quite sure what course he did though.

Are there courses available in PR. I'm off to the Maldives next year, would like to dive out there, but dont want to waste any holiday time over there. PR sounds a great place to learn.

top diving do a one day course, a try dive you get a cert` and you can book to dive again but only for the duration of your hol`s
a 3day course will allow to dive anywhere in the world "with an instructor" have fun!!:ninja:

Top diving PR are good and also Sunset diving in Amadores. I think they both go out to the nature reserve on the east of the island off Playa Cabron. Great spot

Beginners dont go that far, just local diving. The more experienced go further.

to get a diving cert i.e padi open water cert you need to spend at least 4 days (half days really, including theory) diving. im doing my open water with pr diving in march. 300 euros all in. the single dive ("try a dive") will not certify you to dive on your own it just says you have done a discovery dive. you get a card and a cert and its well worth a look though. I did it last year and had great fun. Waters around pr are amazing. Was 50 euo with pr diving. They collect you from your hotel. Instructors kevin and nina are v nice. God cant wait to go again in March now. I have bought underwater casing for my digital camera to take pictures of the great sights when down there. if you wanna do more after open water course, divers then can progress to advanced open water. Then you can do speciality courses. getting certified to dive abroad is excellent because you save an awful lot of money compared to what you would pay at home. also buying gear is mad cheap. we bought two wetsuits last time we were out. they were half price compared to what we would have paid at home. how bad no bother :D
