Hi,
Going to Gran Canaria for the first time soon and staying at Sol Barbacan. Can anyone tell me anything about this hotel? We were hoping for a relaxing week but with the lots of fun nearby, so a bit of both you know??
Also if you have any tips on where to go (any clubs that play good R&B, good restaurants etc) and what to go see that would be great.....
Is this place a typical British resort or are there alot of other cultures here....
:) cheers...

P.D.I. has races and creeds from all over the world that get on well with each other around the resort, which is the second biggest in Spain after Benidorm. Nightlife centres around the commercial centre of which there are around 12. Plaza, Metro, and Kasbah centres are right next to each other and this is generally where the younger generation head. Another lively place is the Irish centre full of Irish bars just a 5 min walk away from the Above. Virtually across the avenue from your hotel is the large Yumbo centre that is recognised as one of the worlds leading gay venues. By day you'll find all your shopping needs here, packed with restaurants too. At night you'll find plenty of great nightlife both gay and straight, some great drag artists perform here. Check out the other links by clicking on Gran canaria at the top of this page.
Barbican Sol is on Ave de Tirajana on one of the main streets in the resort, Although I've not stayed there it looks nice from the outside.
They take great pride with their Xmas decorations externally which makes it stand out from the rest. All the main venues can be reached on foot from here although the beach is a little further. i should'nt worry about distances as taxis are very cheap and plentyful, have fun !!!!!!!

Hi Firefly!
I stayed at the Sol Barbacan a few years back and it is very nice - sure you won't be disappointed! Nice large rooms with little kitchenette, dining table and chairs, sofa area, tv and a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. Very nice accommodation and believe me - after 7 years going to GC and having stayed in lots of different places - there are LOADS worse!!!
It is located what I would say is just at the very beginning of PDI coming away from Maspalomas and is close to the action so to speak - beach not too far, loads of bars, restaurants, etc....
Hope this helps and enjoy!!:have-fun:

The other good thing is that the hotel is located in a great place to hail a taxi - sounds trivial but very handy if you are on a night out elsewhere!!!
