My mobile phone is a Nokia on the Orange network does any one know if there is a Spanish SIM card I can use when in GC, so I can make local Spanish calls without them going first to the UK.
Any help appreciated.

u will need to get it unlocked , to acept a different network , if you have alocal market you may find a stall taht will do it , there is a shop near me taht does it for £10 but in the long run its worth it , once you have it unlocked you can use all the simcards from teh uk networks as well and wherever you go

Annother option is to buy a cheap phone and card over there. I think they start at about 40euros and include some credit on the card already. You can set the language on the phone to English no problem.
This way means that if you need to use the UK phone during your trip, you can.

If you are going on holidays for 1 or 2 weeks, purchasing a sim card or cheap phone may not be a good economic choice as you will lose all of your credit unless the credit is topped up at regular intervals (some every 3 months) Check it out fully before parting with your money

Take a look here http://www.telefonicainenglish.com they sell moviestar sim cards, and post them to you in the uk, but you do need to get your phone unlocked. Looking at the cost of all this put together, and then looking at what carolina says about the cost of buying a phone over there, looks like its cheaper to buy a new phone while there.

First unlock your mobile using the code.
I found the site http://www.unlocking4u.com/ for getting the unlocking code.
It's having the unlocking code and instructions for your nokia mobile..It's useful for you.

Check out the rates for telephone calls and texts before considering a purchase. Also bear in mind that most if not all mobile operators charge a substantial amount to establish a call, short telephone calls are therefore very expensive, your own mobile can work out cheaper. I can send text messages at a lower price from my non-spanish sim than from most spanish sims. Biggest advantage of a spanish sim is, you do not have to pay to receive telephone calls
