ok this may sound a bit harsh and i dont want it to be but in light of what is currently happening in Turkey with the Bird Flu i expect there to be a sudden influx of summer booking for the canaries , it happened a couple of years ago when the Gulf War was on the bookings changed from Turkey and Cyprus and went to the canaries , i think that this will happen again especially as the UN HAVE SAID IT COULD BE A PANDEMIC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4601196.stm hopefully then the canaries will get back to the normal amt of people at the resorts and not for just one year , hopefully the operators will see that and not stick the prices up again and let Turkey and Cyprus and Greece even get back the tourists that desert when something happens like thi s
to end i hope that it doesnt affect Turkey's Tourist industry too much but it may be a blessing in disguise for the Canary Islands
what does everyone think

Must admit, I had this conversation with my wife, just yesterday. I reckoned that people who normally visit Turkey would be looking for alternatives and The Canaries fit the bill. This in turn would enable tour operators to maintain the higher price rather than having to reduce prices
to fill half empty aircraft....This is what is happening right now, due to high demand for January sun.....I've had to pay double, what I've paid each of the last 5 years.....

the prices will not drop for the canaries, they will put them up again as they did last year after the tsunami.
ready for the rush of those that want to change thier holidays.:veryangry:
hopefully though i will get a cheaper holiday to the greek isles for when the world cup starts.

i think that what the problem will be is they will hike them up this year its business after all , but if they carry on doing it next year they wil llose all tourism , i have spoke to two seperate people from travel operators in the last two days , one a major operator and one from a major consolidator and both have said that at the moment the booking are way down , BUT they have been getting a few more calls from people about the canaries , problem with the Greek islands a lot of people according to these people are going there as they like the Cypriot/Turkish style and pace of life and Greece suits them rather than the Canaries , therefore i think getting a last minute to the greek islands may be difficult this year IMHO
