Hiya

Would be interested to hear your comments after your hols. Me and the OH are staying at the Waikiki end of September.

Like you I've read mixed reviews on the net - thought most haven't been too bad (though I was concerned reading that when it rains it rains inside! (hopefully there'll be no rain for you in July or for us in Sept!)

Have a good trip!!

Hiya Scouser,

Just returned from my stay at Riu Waikiki and I have to say I had a fantastic time and came back 1/2 stone heavier.

Hotel/Room

Hotel is great. Although classed as a three star I would say it is at the top end. The rooms don't have air con but do have a central fan which I found much better. The hotel is clean and a maid cleans your room every day. Remember to leave the towels in the bath or on the floor or they won't get changed. Rooms a bit dated but very clean and very big. Pool is huge but need to reserve a sunbed, although loads they get nicked very early!!! Umbrella is one to every two sunbeds.

Food

Well what can I say, there is tooo much. Breakfast in the Restaraunt from 0800-1000, miss that you can have it by the pool 1030-1230. Pool side snack bar (hot dogs, burgers, garlic bread and pizza) from 1300-1530 or eat in the restaraunt until 1500. Cake from 1430 and then dinner from 1830. Food is first class although can be repetative but definitely top class. I would say it is one of the best places I've been to for choise of food, everybody is catered for.

Drink

Serve yourself beer, hot/cold drinks. Only need to ask the bar man for spirits or cocktails. No wait at the bar.

Entertainment

Not the best but okay whilst you get drunk waiting to hit the town.

Out and about

All we did is hit the town on an evening. Lots to do, very lively. Michael did some diving which he enjoyed, see my email ref diving on the forum.

As for it raining inside when it rains outside. This is because Waikiki is made up of five round builidings, centre of which has got no roof, so if it rains the inside gets wet, wont effect your room, just the path.

If you need to know anything else, let me know.

Weather wasn't great, cloudy most days.

You will have a great time

Hi Caplee

Thanks for the review - sounds like you had a great time. Pity about the cloudy weather

Am looking forward to going now. The hotel sounds fab, I reckon its within staggering distance of the Yumbo (thats if anyone can drag me away from the free booze in the hotel!)

Don't know about the food tho, I think I'll have to lose a couple of stone before going, just so that I don't feel too guilty putting it all back on again! It sounds like a giant eat-a-thon.
:D
Thanks again m8

Better to get a taxi to the Yumbo which costs 2euro. Taxis are so cheap it really isn't worth walking anywhere. You are in staggering distance to the Kasbah and the Irish Centre though.

Be warned, public toilets aren't the best ones I've seen in PDI!!!

Have fun!!
