Got a copy of the latest RTN newspaper, it had a few private rentals in it, some others were with estate agents tho, so there'd be an extra cost, I suppose.
Good luck

Apartamentos Salamanca in the Nilo C. C., Playa del Ingles, is a good place to start. Almost no people living there at the moment - lots of free apartments at a low rent.

Book a cheap apartment for 2 weeks with owen then you'll have time to shop around. If you are desparate then you'll end up paying over the odds for somwhere horrible.
Most places will ask for a deposit and 2 months rent or similar

Mary does have a point. I booked for a week in a hotel and I found my place one of the last days. So 2 weeks would be better than 1.

For the record. There is nothing at all wrong with Apartamentos Salamanca. You pay 1 month in advance and 1 month deposit, and you have to stay at least 3 months to get the rent cheap. Look it up under www.apartamentosalamanca.com (http://www.apartamentosalamanca.com) and see pictures and prices:-)

Those stills suggest that Salamanca is not suitable for a child. I wouldn't stay there as an adult, cheap or not.

If Owen can't come up with something, try http://www.find-rooms.com/Spain/Gran_Canaria/r/1028/

The children staying at Salamaca is very well taken care of by everyone! Actually it is not hard to get a suitable sitter! Well different views on what is great then. It is a shame the place has a bad rumour! The staff is so kind, there are no drugs everywhere as some rumours say and it is very clean. So there is not any luxury about the place and no pool - very simple- but as a start it is cheaper than staying in a hotel. And there are no more drunken guests than in the hotels..

It all depends on what you want really! Some are absolutely crazy about Danubi but when we saw it we ran away screaming as it is the worst dump and some of the staff where rude. The rent is skyhigh for what you get. This is only our opinion about it though.. As I wrote some are very happy with the place!

You really have to see for yourself - that is why it is a good plan taking a 1 or 2 weeks holiday and look around. I brought a list with me, with some places I wanted to look at - actually my place was at the bottom of the list as it didnīt seem so nice until I laid my eyes on it!
