Don't see any info regarding these apartments...

Has anyone stayed at Blue Star Apartments, that would like to share some information...i.e. Cleanliness, balcony or terrace, noisy lift etc and what floor number would you ask for if you wanted to be on the top level.

Thanks in advance

No need to respond to my previous request....I've read enough on Holiday-Truth.com to put me off ever going to Blue Star.

That's a shame. They aren't really that bad. We loved it here and would be happy to stay again. You really get what you pay for . Two star cheap cheerful but clean....

When we stayed in nov 04 we had no complaints at all, rooms cleaned daily, beds changed twice in a week, fresh towels every couple of days. we were in room 416, right next to the pool and bar, had no disturbance at all. there was a few cats loitering about, but we didnt encourage them around our apartment, they just lazed around anywhere in the sun. we had a terrace to our apart, large enough for our 5 year old to play ball on (had no one below us so didnt disturb anyone). reception staff were very friendly, spoke not bad english. net connection in recetion. small shop on site, adeqately stocked. only a 5 min walk from the europa. have noticed that prices have increased dramatically for blue star thou, we paid £368 for 2 ad 1 ch for the week, nov 05 was priced £475 for same party. lovely views out to the ocean and the boat lit up in the evening at puerto azul. NO roaches! only let down was the rubbish that people had thrown over the wall at the top of the site, but that goes for any place that has a wall and is convienient for throwing rubbish .............. too lazy to wait to see a bin!

We too have stayed at the Blue Star and it was fine, no complaints at all.
I find that on some review sites peoples opinions differ greatly on what they expect from 2* or 3* accomodation. I expect nothing more than basic and clean, anything else, to me, is a bonus!

Blue Star is £349 pp flying from Glasgow. Prices don't seem to be dropping this year like they normally do. Even Malibu is £359 as we speak.

they wont drop mate , sorry but at the mo the canaries have overoriced themselves , they may get business back from the customers who were going to Turkey but will be worried due to Bird Flu , But maybe as its hit turkey , canarys are next :D :D

as for the blue star conatct them direct http://www.bluestar.es/ u may get a better price and using Globespan the whole package will be cheaper

as for reports a lot of people as was said expect 4* luxury for 2* prices , i used to egt people complaining about 2* hotels in paris as they expected George V luxury 9where it cost as much for the brekkie as the 2*) i would trust this site rather than holidaytruths and holidayuncovered as a lot of people who review on their seem to be after compo and thats it , its a huge problem with the industry nowadays and its ruining it with **** reviews about good places by people who decided they dont want to pay the price for their holiday as everyone else does and want it all back throu compo

sorry rant over but i have had a prime example of a family reviewing a place and then complaining to the travel operator about the 7 lads in teh room next door making a noise and various other things some disgusting , was a shame for them as it was 1 lad in teh room next door making no noise and was known as Bluemoonsteve who worked for the said company , since then i hate COMPO CLAIMERS

NOW THE RANT IS OVER :angryfire: :angryfire:

Hi KT,

As others have said, don't be put off going to Blue Star - they're ok, we've stayed there half a dozen times now.

If you don't need to book a package trip,
http://www.bedbookers.com/ are quoting £381, 14 nights, one bedroom appartment for the middle of Feb and
http://www.alpharooms.com/ are quoting £392 for the same.

Both are companies we've used in the past with no problems.

If you want to request an appartment at the top of the complex, these are on the 8th floor, numbered from 807 to 831, in odd numbers.

Hope this helps, if you need any more info, PM me,

Regards, John

my sister in law and her family stayed here last summer. I was a bit concerned after reading some reviews but actually they were fine. 2 bedroomed apartment so you could still use the sitting room and kitchen when the kids have gone to bed and noone has to sleep on a sofa bed.
Pool seemed very small though but they never used it anyway. They were quite happy - they didnt pay much and werent expecting top quality

Stayed at Blue Star Sept 04 and Sept 05 and they are fine. ,Basic, clean..everything you need is there, ask for a balcony instead of a terrace, very private, staff friendly and helpful. We spent days on beach but pool looked fine. As said before.. you get what you pay for.

Yeah the Blue star is fine. I find you have the professional moaners, you know the type. They book the cheapest possible holiday then moan when they don't get 5 star luxury.I once was at the reception of a nice clean apartment and a girl in front was nearly hysterical because she found a cockroach in the bath. She wanted to move because she thought the room was filthy because of one cockroach.Ridiculous i know but it was good enterainment...

I stayed at blue Star in November 2004. It cost us about £500 for the two of us and was fine. Like most folks Id say they were basic but at that price for a week in the sun spot on.

Nearto all the amenities in the europa centre and with breath taking views its not a bad bit to be. The scenic lift is an experience as it tends to stick now and again so if you are down near the bottom its a bit of a hike up to reception.

The place is set out in blocks of apartments that are two high so if you are looking for a bit of shade in the afternoon ask for a bottom one ( think they are odd numbers from memory)

Can anyone offr any advice or information on the following please? My husband and I have booked to stay at the Omar from 30/12/2006 until 06/01/2007 and today we have received the following from the tour operators,

`Hello,

due to very difficult occupancy situation over the period of Christmas and New Year time,
we would like to offer alternative apartments to your clients under the ref.n.*****.
The Blue Star 3*, the same board basis and the same standard, the same price.
Please speak to your clients and come back to me ASAP, because they would not hold the room for very long time.`

Thank you.
Kind regards.
Hotels4u.com.

We booked the Omar as it is down the bottom, (we like to be close to the beach) and from what I understand the Blue Star are at the top, we don`t expect luxury for what we have paid but does anyone have any alternative suggestions or if it happens that we have to accept the Blue Star, has anyone stayed there recently?
Cheers, The other half of Windy!

Yes, the Blue Star is near the top of the hill a short distance down the road from the Europa Shopping Centre. As booking is very heavy around the Christmas/New Year period, I suspect that you will not have a lot of choice where accomodation is concerned. One positive point regarding the Blue Star is that it is located on the sunny side (morning sun) of the valley whereas Omar will be in the shade till about 11 am. The bus stop for the local bus service is very close (90 cent down to Amadores Beach or to the main commercial centre) and, of course, the Europa Centre is just a short stroll up the road. Don't know anything about the accomodation. Enjoy your break in the sun

Blue star is basic but clean accomodation, the balconies are large with lovely sea views and get the sun nearly all day.

There is a small supermarket onsite but bars, shops, restaurants etc are just a couple of minutes walk away.

You could take a nice long walk down to Amadores beach (fantastic views) but should definately get a taxi back!! (about 3 euro's).

Bar and food - I can't really comment on as we went up to the Europa CC every night!

Hope you have a great time werever you stay :)

parents came back from PR on saturday, stayed at the blue star. id heard a few bad comments about them, but they said the apartments were fine. they're about 5 minutes walk from the europa centre (10 minute stagger back at the end of the night my dad says!). only bad thing was the pool bar closed about 5:30pm! think that's just cos it's winter tho.

oh, and my brother says the lift they have is pretty scary!

28th November 2006, 07:59 PM
That would suit me . You will get a lot less hassle in the Europa than down below.... reception will order a taxi for you to the beach...unless you fancy a stroll to the taxi rank about 5 minutes... there is a steep incline for about 100 yards to the main road so no good if you have problems walking...:have-fun:

there is another lift that goes from the 8th floor down to the 4th (pool area and bar). only thing to remember about the scenic lift is to hold on as when it reaches the floor to stop, it jolts, something you get used to.

we have just come back from blue star, no roaches to be seen, yes it is 2*, but you only sleep and shower there. we found the stairs outside reception easier on the calf muscles than the slope that goes up to the main road. pool was cold thou!!!

We stayed at the Blue Star for 3 weeks and it was horrendous! The lift worked every other 2 days and when you are near the bottom, that lift is a life saver!! We had hot water one day but cold the next for the full 3 wks. The pool looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months too. I personally wouldn't stay again, no matter how cheap...

You may find that you really like it, but I gave you my honest opinion and me personally would not stay there again. And I would certainly not let my children into the disgusting pool.
We have been visiting Puerto Rico for years until finally moving over there to live (although now back in the UK) and the Blue Star is the worst out of all the places we have stayed. As for the altamar, we like it, but again our opinion. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Hi VIV when was it you stayed there ?

I stayed there 6 year ago and it was good

then 3 year ago we returned and found standards had dropped

Last year we went in to have a look and there had been lot's of improvements including a new lift, new showers etc

So MILLIEANMOLLY

I would not worry as I am sure the plus points for the BlueStar will out weigh the negatives

Great view, good sized balconies, good location, reasonable priced.

Hi, we stayed at the Blue Star at New Year, it wasn`t our choice but we were there as where we booked had double booked!
In saying that the apartments were clean but basic, maids came in daily, staff were friendly enough, however if you are on the bottom level (as we were) and the lift isn`t working, it`s a case of jelly legs by the time you get to the top!
Fortunately it was ok when we stayed there.
At the end of the day you only want a base, how much time do you really spend in your apartment?
Enjoy your holiday!

I have just read reviews of the Bluestar and they are very bad, dirty, full of cockroaches, dirty sheets with some saying it needs pulling down as its in that bad condition.

Can I change these apartments - will the holiday company do this for us or are we stuck with it. What are my rights?:sadguy:

chorlton
26th July 2007, 10:39 AM
I would suggest as a first point of call that you contact your tour company and say you are concerned and ask them what your options are.

Also take into account how old the reviews are. You've had plenty of positive comments from users on this forum so if the other reviews are older than comments on here it might be worth not taking them literally.

It is an older property than some others but certainly not in a state that needs pulling down.

Remember people often seek out sites to make comments when they have had a negative experience but are not nearly so quick when they have had a positive one.

Hi, we stayed at the Blue Star for 2 weeks in 2001 then again in 2004, apartments were basic but okay, didn't have any bad experiences there. Seen the odd cockroach (around the complex, not in the actual apartment) as we have in most places we've stayed, staff were friendly enough and maid service was every other day i think!!! The lift was a bit of a nightmare especially with a pram but we just requested a high floor aprtment (think ours was on floor 7), not too far to go down to the pool or up to the exit.

You get coackroaches everywhere. Even had 1 scurry across the carpet at the 4* RIU Vistamar.
If you want a self contained hotel then Blue Star is not for you as pool and snack bar close at 6 and then nothing else open, you do have Europa only 2 minutes away anyhow

i stayed in Blue Star 3 years ago so some changes might have occured but being a pot noodle lover and a tea drinker i noticed that we definately had NO kettle and i had to use a saucepan.
the shower leaked into the lounge and into the bedrooms and we had a fair few roaches but to be honest i booked the place very cheap so i got what i paid for.
The holiday i had was spent mostly out of the appt anyhow...pool all day and out all night.i couldnt stay in on my well earnt holiday!
The pool we found to be ok,the restaurant was always empty so hence thats why it closed down.
As for the lift!!!!! well,we spent many times stranded in that horrible thing and when we left we had to drag our cases up the stairs from the 3 rd floor.not a nice experience which is why i now pay the extra and i get a better quality appartment.

Just Back from The Blue star apartments - all I can say is dont worry too much, we found them to be clean and tidy if a bit basic but comfortable enough. We were lucky to have a kettle that someone had left behind but if you like your toast in the morning pick up a toaster quite cheaply from one of the local elecrical shops rather than renting it from the apartments. As previously mentioned get some bigger mugs the cups are too small for a decent cuppa.
It is fine and close to the Europa centre where we spent most of our time though is a fair distance from the beaches at Ammadores and Puerto Rico (3 euro taxi ride) It depends if you are happy enough staying at the pool which can get invaded at the weekends by the locals though the water is warmer than the sea. The pool bar is ok serving drinks and some food but it does close early at 6 pm (plenty of places to eat nearby, I would recommend el brasero at Europa centre)

The lift only broke down once when we were there - when we were leaving and had to carry our bags up the stairs from the 8th floor to reception :banghead:

I e mailed the Blue Star about 3 weeks before we left and requested an apartment on the upper levels and we were given one on the 7th floor though dont expect a reply.

I'm sure everything will be ok for you :have-fun:

We've stayed there with our 9 year old son a couple of times now. There certainly is better self catering nearby - but we enjoyed it. The apartments are clean and basic. The reception staff are nice and friendly and the small supermarket saves you a walk. The pool can get very busy and you might need to be up early to guarntee a sunbed. The pool bar has been renovated in the last year and looks alot better.
As for the lift, it worked sometimes and not others, but to be honest i prefered walking up the steps.
If the sun is shining and it normally is you will only use the apartment to sleep in, so go and have a fantastic time and enjoy your holiday.

We were over in P ~ R in March 2007 and a new lift was getting fitted at the Blue Star
For any would be travellers to the Blue Star
The Blue Star must have some of the finest views in P ~ R and the balconies get the sun for most of the day
You are not far from the Europa centre and bus stop is outside the Blue Star which takes you to the bigger Commercial centre
The same bus stop does for the beautiful Amadores beach
Saying that taxis are cheap

We are going out to on 17th Sept for a fortnight staying at the Nido and have just booked for the Blue Star for next year April time
For the good old price of £348 each for 16 nights That is flights from Scotland, transfer and accommodation at the Blue Star

For that money I will not expect the Ritz and will put up with a dodgy lift :thumb:

Big big improvements id say,not sure about the rooms as i only went to use the pool for the day as my daughter loves it in there, they have a nice sized one that starts off shallow and leads to a deeper end, also has a childs shallow pool just up a few stairs.
Restaurant is still closed but like i said b4 there are tons nearby and you also have the netto supermarket by reception.:)

Hi there - yes the bus stop isn't far away to PR and the downhill walk to Amadores isn't that bad either. Am not sure the Amadores bus goes the quickest route down due to the steepness of the hill though.

TVs used to be pay as you go and am not sure they would be scarted up for the PS....I might be wrong though.

thanks for that. stayed at portonova last november and walked to amadores, though that was fairly flat along coastal path, lovely walk though. staying in a mates appt in arizona complex near cc on 25th october (7 weeks:banana: ) but hes probably moving out there in new year so looking for cheap alternatives and never stayed up top near europa :thumb: game boys it is then :banghead:
Hi there - yes the bus stop isn't far away to PR and the downhill walk to Amadores isn't that bad either. Am not sure the Amadores bus goes the quickest route down due to the steepness of the hill though.

TVs used to be pay as you go and am not sure they would be scarted up for the PS....I might be wrong though.

No need to respond to my previous request....I've read enough on Holiday-Truth.com to put me off ever going to Blue Star.

K T

I have only been back for 3 weeks after staying at the blue star, I have to say that we did not see one cockroach in our apartment, which had been a worry after I had read a few forum posts, we were on the top tier of apartments, I had read about a 'dodgy' lift, again no worries there! I did see a removed lift in the grounds which might suggest the 'dodgy' lift has been replaced.
Overall accommodation is quite basic but not bad ( If you want better pay more ) there are no luxuries on the inside but then the price reflects that, staff are friendly and helpful, ( even when faced with daft Brits like me and my man, whom could not even open our apartment door! and had to be shown how, and then managed to break our hotel safe on 3 occasions!! ) each time we had a problem staff acted very promptly at helping us out ( even though the guy fixing the safe spoke Spanish, it was easy to understand like, 1 KAPUT, 2 KAPUT, 3 KAPUT, 4 KAPUT ) Translated into even our dumb ass English means do note use buttons 1 to 4.
Maids came every other day and did the whole shebang, bedding, cleaning, towels, even our washing up! ( which I kept having to tell the O/H was OK as we were on holiday and it was expected , still he did not like to leave it but kept forgetting to buy washing up liquid in his overly drunken state!! < His first time at foreign measures lol!! > )
Our balcony was fantastic ( remember we are on the top tier ) We had glass balconies which were great on an evening just chilling out having a drink and looking at the views, We brought out the sofa cushions ( sorry don't do plastic chairs they do my back in, I am a comfort kitten all the way!! ) lit a few candles and sat on the balcony every evening, It was huge as far as a balcony goes and I loved it so much more than the interior, I even slept out there one evening :o)
The pool is fine, But I have to admit that we were a bit naughty and we walked down the hill to the Gloria palace to use their pool as the water is so soft and warm (the luxuries of 5 star I guess) even so, As much as the Gloria may have better interiors and pool they could never beat our balcony! Also we are late risers and never found a problem getting 3 loungers together by the pool with a little bit of moving loungers around.
I have so much more I could write about this but I am tired after a long day at work, if anyone has a specific question about our experience at the blue star please feel free to ask.
I think top tier is level 8? Not too sure right now will ask the better half (He is not the brains of the duo, But he is the memory!)

It REALLY isn't bad at all, just don't expect 5* luxury, you get what you pay for, I would definately go back there! Don't worry about it you'll have a great holiday. We might return there in Feb if we can get our puppy minded - he's too young for kennels :(

Aw, cheers Santeg. I've stayed at Las Fresas, the Portonovo and the Carlota before so I think I know pretty much what to expect. Just always get a bit nervous when I'm staying somewhere I've not stayed before! Not been to PR in the last 3 years though, so I am looking forward to seeing what's changed, if anything! :)

Do the apartments have a kettle and toaster or do you have to hire them?

Hi Santeg

We got back from a week at the Blue Star on Monday. Wasn't bad at all, bearing in mind how apprehensive I was before we went!

There was a kettle in our apartment (number 213), but I'm not sure whether that just hadn't been returned by the previous occupants. There wasn't a toaster, but they were available to hire.

The pool bar does meals and snacks, quite reasonably priced, and it's happy hour on all drinks (two for the price of one) between 1pm and 2pm, monday to friday.

We had no hot water at all for two days, and even after the maintenance guy had been it wasn't really hot enough. There was never any hot water in the mornings, but I put that down to the time of year and the solar panels not having had enough time to warm enough water. The hot water also seemed to vanish after 7pm, so there was no hanging about after leaving the pool!

I was also surprised at the lack of storage space. Plenty of hanging space, but no drawers for swimwear, etc. Ah well, at least I know for next time!

Totally agree with BigBaz..............we just got back from Blue Star yesterday and have no complaints. The apartment, although a little shabby, was very clean and had a lovely view across the pool and out to sea (room number. 616, 6th floor directly above pool) and a massive balcony!
The pool area was thoroughly cleaned every evening (we used the pool next door at the Babalu as the pool is bigger and there was loads of empty sun loungers, the Blue Star pool area was very busy).
I would definately stay there again.:thumb:

My mate just arrived back from there today. Says the amenities are basic but good, offers value for money. To be honest I don't really pay attention to websites such as holiday truth / uncovered, etc. Many of the posters are overly critical, don't do any research into their holidays before booking and expect something totally different.

exactley i think there will be bad reviews about everywhere i have stayed blue star 3 time never no problems people love to exagerate maid came in and did a lot for us course the lift is noisy its a cable car one but there is another one and a couple of steps they have actually got a lovely spacious bar and food area been done out now by the pool even been with took my 2 children they loved it i would rather save a lot more money than pay an extra 800 pounds just on accommodation

We stayed at the blue star on our last holiday to gran canaria, our apartment was a 2 bed on the top floor, it was very clean when we arrived with more than enough space for the 4 of us, the cleaners came in regularly and were polite and friendly:fatgrin:
I never used the cranky lift at all, the day we arrived it was being worked on and over the next 2 weeks it was out of action more then it was working, i took the stairs with all the cases, (its good weight lifting LOL)
entertainment was minimal, but if your staying at the blue star you know that you've got a really cheap base and your only a few minutes walk away from the europa centre and all it has to offer, a 3 euro taxi ride will take you down to the town centre ( or beach) with plenty more to keep you occupied, if your brave or on a keep fit routine then you could always walk up and down the road way, or take the steps its quiet pleasant that way going down with plenty of RESTING PLACES along the way
Wherever you stay in Gran Canaria there is always plenty to see and do, I don't think we will ever manage to see all of the island even if we lived there it has so much to offer:tinysmile_fatgrin_t

We are booked in there 1st December. My family have stayed there in the past and I thought was always nice and clean. It will only be being used for a cuppa, shower and kip anyway.
The amount of time I spend in a room I would be better off looking for hostel accommodation!!

Hi, booked these apartments before finding this site and reading any of the comments. However, I know it sounds stupid but I'm nutty about having a bath. Anyone know if these apartments have a bath & shower or just a shower.

chorlton
31st August 2008, 09:46 AM
My understanding is that they ripped all the baths out and replaced them with new showers,

John
31st August 2008, 05:35 PM
Think you'll find that, as Chorlton says, the refurbed rooms have had the baths replaced with a walk in shower - almost making the bathroom a wet room. They also replaced the walled fronts of the balconies with a glass screen which makes for a great view.
Pretty sure that this refurb is ongoing, they've never closed down as the Rio Sol has, so if you request a room with a terrace and not a balcony you should get one that still has its (small) bath.

Hi guys,
i've just uploaded some photo's of the Blue Star Apartments to the Album section at the top of the site,
they were taken from the top floor apartment which we stayed in in January 2008, can't remember the room number (lol) but to explain its location take the cranky lift down 1 floor or take the steps, walk the entire length of the walkway until you can go no further and that will be the room we stayed in, anyway it's only to give people an idea of what the apartments are like, the views from the balcony however are the best!:tinysmile_fatgrin_t

Just back from these apartments a few days ago now !! Found these apartments to be in poor condition very run down and badly needing upgraded.
Maids came in every other day with fresh towels but they didn't even look clean glad we had our own towels with us . Floors were moped x3 in 3 weeks and brushed once and that was day of leaving toilet seat full of chips bath looks as though it had been painted to cover up damaged bits. Overall thought on these apartments stay clear !!!
These apartments also have a no smoking rule in your apartment !!
Will Upload the pictures we have of these

we were there last oct maids came in everday to tidy and every other day in the two weeks for towels even washed up and told me not to do it help a bit if you talk to them in spanish if you can

pool bar is tons better since they put a new one in i suppose its a matter of time renewing everything one by one-these apartment are clean and basic and actually has the best view there seems to be a lot of difference in opinion about blue star but we have been a fair few times and not had a bad time

saying that i would have thought they would have upgraded a few more apartments by now although ours was nice with bath and a shower (above the kids playpark we have had twice cant remember room no)

i think apartments in general in pr need a bit of a vamp up but these are fine if you dont want to spend loads of time in them more than adequate and saves a lot of money

Well you get what you pay for. People always seem to slag this place off but we have just spent a week (25Oct) in the appartments (633 and 631) and found them to be clean and functional.

Ok so they could do with a cooker and a bit of a refurb, but that said we hardly spent anytime there other than to sleep. Maids came in at least 3 times during the week and the staff were always very friendly and helpful.

If you are used to 5 star accomodation you will be dissapointed, but if you enjoy caravan, camping and bed and breakfast type holidays where price is more important than comfort then you will be more than happy.

We would happily return.
