Hello to all forum members. I would like to both contribute to the forum and also suggest it as a medium for all disabled and mobility impaired visitors. Here at Sol Mobility S.L WWW.SOLMOBILITY.COM (http://www.SOLMOBILITY.COM) we specialise in the hire of wheelchairs, mobility scooters, bed, bath and toilet aids including clinical hoists and can help organise disabled minibus and taxis transfers and trips. This forum could be very useful to use as an information exchange area for such things as best and latest information on relevant island trips for the mobility impaired, hotel and town area wheelchair access and who provides best services for wheelchair and mobility scooter users etc in restaurants and bars in the Maspalomas, Meloneras, Bahia Feliz, Sonneland, Playa del Ingles, Puerto Rico, Mogan, Taurito Amadores and Playa del Cura areas.

I am hoping that this idea may bring existing and new users to the site to share experiences which could be especially useful for a group who are not currently catered for. Should anyone require information please contact me here or visit our website WWW.SOLMOBILITY.COM (http://www.SOLMOBILITY.COM) or contact us directly by telephone on (0034) 928 735 311) where information on hotels with adapted rooms etc is available. Wishing everyone on the forum and safe and Happy New Year. Regards. Paul

Hi Paul

Traveling last year with a disabled friend, we found disabled access interesting and confusing. She was not clear about how to use her disabled car pass etc, and it would be great Paul if you could enlighten us as to the rules and guides. Also why diasbled spaces are often at the opposite end of a car park to the activity, for eaxmple the spar carpark in Pr by the beach!

Thanks

Libbyo :)

Hi, To answer your question as best as i can!! The rules here often change from one area to another and often from day to day when it comes to parking however if you have a hire car and display your country of origin official disabled parking badge then you are able to park in the designated areas without risk of fine. It has been known for visitors to use imitation badges and to be seen to march briskly to their cars and this did result in the traffic officers doubting everyone. That particular scam appears to have worn off and the ligitimate users are welcomed again.
As to planning of the curb heights, car parking zones and other items you will have to talk with the local town hall for that explanation as it appears to defy logic, however, having said that there are areas that have been developed with mobility in mind and the new planners are now taking access into account in most of their plans for hotels, commercial centers and so on. Hope this helps. regards. Paul
