I recently visited La Palma. We attended a local fiesta in the downtown Plaza. It was April 1st and while strolling around I happened upon a local farmer selling vegetables, etc. I bought VERY unusual beans from him. They were in a pod (6 to a pod) and were colored pink or light fushia. (Almost akin to a fava) Even the pod was a pinkish. I have never seen these beans. Can anyone give me the name of this bean?
We had such a delightful time at the fiesta! Even a band was playing.
Thanking you in advance.

Hi, my name is George. I live in Florida, USA. I am thinking about visiting the island of La Palma. You, obviously, have been there. I've been trying desperately to get someone on this site to respond to the questions I have about La Palma. To o avail. For some reason, nobody has found the time, energy or interest in responding to questions I have about La Palma. Might you be willing ?
What was La Palma like ? How was the weather (when did you travel there)? How did you find accommodations ? Anything you would recommend ? What about the restaurants ? Any good one ? affordable ones ? What would you imagine living there full time might be like ? Please respond as much as you like.

Hi George,
Try using the YAHOO search engine to access many sites dealing with the above topic. This is a Gran Canaria based forum and is used by people primarily to discuss holidays in the larger Canary Islands. La Palma rarely crops up in conversation as it's not normally associated as a holiday hotspot. Hope you have more luck with your search for your required information, I'm sure Yahoo will put you on the right road!!!

George, I recently spent the day in La Palma. I was on a cruise ship, The Seabourn Pride. I was very impressed with the people and the downtown area. Absolutely gorgeous! We went to a fiesta in the town's Plaza and much to our delight an orchastra was playing......open-air tent booths selling handcrafts, etc. This is where I found the VERY unusual pink pod beans! I was there on April 1st and the weather was delightful......warm and sunny. I certainly am planning to return! Another Island that I loved was Lanzarote......even rode a camel!
You will certainly enjoy these Canary Islands as I did......
Good Luck in your travels!

Steve, many thanks for your posts!
As to the "pink beans"......it was definitely POD BEANS~~~very much like a fava, but pink and off-white, kinda striped. Both the pod and the beans. I have never seen such beans........I took a small sack full back to the ship......NO ONE at the Sky Bar had ever seen the beans.
It's quite a mystery......
I loveeeee La Palma! And will make plans to return.......
Thanking you again! And I'll just "keep on, keeping on" trying to find out about these BEANS!
Best wishes!

Are they like a runner bean but mottled pink - if so, then thats what they are - runner beans. i saw then in the supermarket yesterday and they are just plain old beans - or judias, which is bean in spanish.

Must admit that when i saw the post initially, I ignored it as i thought it was going to run onto a Jack and the beanstalk story. Sorry
Apologies also to sant2domingo. Although i live on Gc, I havent yet been to La Palma. Its on my list of 'to do's'. Hence I was unable to answer you queries. I imagine its a lovely island to visit but very small - prsonally i would go island crazy after a while. Fuerteventura is too small for me

Mary, many, many thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm sure they are "runner beans", BUT, we don't have the PINKISH mottled ones in the United States. Do they have a specific name? Our most popular bean is called "Kentucky wonder".......a long green bean.
I surely wish I could find the exact name for the La Palma PINK bean!
Oh, the mysteries of life!
And I loved the three Islands we called on........absolutely beautiful! And the people were so kind and showed such welcoming hospitatlity!
Thank you, Mary

Mary, as to the name of the "PINK BEAN" when I took the sack back to the Seabourn Pride, the Captain and I decided it would be fun to have a "Name The Bean Contest!" The person that won "coming up with the correct name" would win: "Blow the Pride's horn!"
But alas, time ran out on us.......I guess the Captain had the Chef cook them for his dinner.......bet they were good, too!
Please ask at your grocery store.......
Thanks again, Martita
