Gran Canaria Beaches

Playa de las Alcaravaneras

This is the city's second beach (after Las Canteras) and is quite centrally located, a 5 minute stroll from the end of the shopping street "Mesa y Lopez".

alcaravaneras

This is a golden sand beach, around 550 meters long and 85 meters wide. At week-ends as with all the beaches it gets busy with the locals sunbathing and swimming but during the week it's a beach very popular for all kinds of sports such as jogging, volleyball, football, sailing...

I love this beach for the views; just off the shoreline dozens of yachts are anchored, to the right is the main marina for yachts where there are hundreds more stationed. To the left you can see the main port for the city where the cruise ships are often in for the day then straight ahead the multi-coloured shipping containers for the cargo ships.

If you're here for a while and wanted to try your hand at sailing as well as the yachting club you can try the small sailing stations that line this beach. You'll also find toilets, showers, changing rooms, there's a playground for kids. During the summer months from 1 July to 30 September when it really gets busy (especially week-ends) there's a lifeguard on duty otherwise not. Thanks to the marina and the port the waters along this beach are always very calm.
